I was so lost 'till I found this book!.......2007-09-18
I have been working with websites since 1994. But when I came to edit my first Yahoo store I thought I had gone back in time. I didn't recognize anything, it all looked foreign and I needed to find help quick. Online proved fruitless so I grabbed my keys and heads to the bookstore for "research".
There were a few books there on Yahoo Selling but I found the Index of "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies" easiest to navigate to exactly what I needed. As I scanned the book though I found more areas in which I could benefit. Much more areas than I had realized I could even do with Yahoo! Stores.
If you are lost with Yahoo Stores you will find all of your answers and more in "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies"!
WONDERFUL!!.......2007-08-07

Happy Dummy!.......2007-01-05
I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to attempt to bring an old fool like me into the world of computers. I enjoy my machine and am trying to learn as much as I can about how to use it, so getting a book like this is very helpful. Thanks for putting this material at my disposal.
I'm excited!!!.......2006-12-07
I read the book in sections because I just couldn't stay focused. My mind was racing. The book is really helpful. I am using sitebuilder so half the stuff wasn't as useful, but the other half was really worth it. He really knows what he's talking about.
Not a great book........2006-06-23
I would not recommend this book. It was really not helpful for us. We currently have a yahoo store with over 6000+ items and this book is really geared for stores with 50 or less items. The attached software was not useful. However, I would recommend another book: "Starting a Yahoo! Business For Dummies", by Richard Snell. The Snell book is much more useful and full of informative advance stuff for starting and improving your Yahoo store. David Mark, Cmdstore
Clear and lucid.......2006-02-19
I needed to set up a web site faster than it was going to take me to learn Dreamweaver. Yahoo! SiteBuilder for Dummies successfully walked me through the process of setting up a site at Yahoo! in less than half a days time. It's well written, clear and broken down into distinct components so you can go directly to the material you need without wading through all sorts of stuff that's not relevant to you.
It did the trick for me, I hope it does for you.
quick way to get your own website up and running.......2005-11-13
Ever since Yahoo acquired Geocities, it has aspired to be a major web hosting site. To this ends, it has striven to help users make web sites. Wagner describes how Yahoo's SiteBuilder simplifies a lot of messy details and, hopefully, lets you concentrate on the actual design.
Maybe the most important aid is the numerous templates. For such subjects as a birthday, education, electronics or music. If you are new to HTML, these can greatly help you put up pages. More experienced users might want to start from scratch, however. While the site's templates are well done, the sheer fact that each is used by many hosted sites means that inevitably if your site does likewise, there will be an element of cookie-cutter-ness.
Along the way to describing what SiteBuilder can do for you, Wagner also offers useful and quite general guidelines for site design. These are independent of actually using SiteBuilder. An added advantage of the book.
The advanced section of the book, that deals with using JavaScript in your pages, gives a synopsis of that language. If you are serious about using JavaScript, consider also getting another book, devoted to it. (Like "JavaScript for Dummies".)

Yahoo! for Dummies.......2007-01-24
This book seems to be an old edition since some of the newer features are not included. As a new user to Yahoo, it was a disappointment.
already too late.......1999-11-16
Although this book was published in September of 1999, by now (November of 1999), many sections of it are already obsolete. Keeping up with a great service like Yahoo! can only be done online.
A revelation.......1999-09-07
I've used Yahoo for years, but I never knew what I was missing until I took a chance on this book. It's definitely worth buying! The book treats Yahoo like more than just a Web site....like an online service. I'm using Yahoo even more than I did before, and getting more out of my online time. I never knew about Yahoo Companion or how to talk with somebody for free, anywhere in the world....I've got my family across the country using it now, and saving money off the phone bill. Very useful book....lots of humor....really opened my eyes to Yahoo.

Customer Reviews:
Extremely Valuable . . . ........2002-02-27
This book explains and illustrates (with real world examples) how to estimate the value of financial instruments that are traded on listed securitues exchanges, as well as some that are not actively traded. The book provides valuable demonstrations of how wide range practical sources of information can be used to compute prices for commercial mortgages, private-placement bonds, mortgage-backed securities, derivatives, joint ventures, and other financial instruments. Casabona and Traficanti also provide 340 slides that expedite learning...
A Primary Resource.......2002-01-29
A useful guide for both the accounting and financial professionals who must tackle valuation on a regular basis. Casabona and Traficanti explain the basics of pricing various types of fixed income securities, equity securities, and the whole gamut of derivatives. I was particularly impressed by the fact that Casabona and Traficanti do not limit themselves to publicly traded instruments; instead, they consider both the public and the nonpublic (i.e., private) markets for securities. The book is well thought out, well organized, and easy to follow . . . I can easily see it becoming a primary resource for the accounting profession and for Boards of Directors of both issuing institutions and of the investment companies that represent the target investment market for many of the instruments discussed.

Book Description
This handbook provides the reader with a full understanding of the elements of an ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS) and how to design and implement an EMS for themselves. To clarify and illustrate how an EMS works, the book provides real-world examples from five companies. The companies range in size from a small manufacturer with 30 employees to a multinational health products company with 42,000 employees. The book is presented in an easy to read format with plenty of tips, charts and quotes from EHS managers who have "been there, done that". A glossary of terms and useful websites is included.
Customer Reviews:
ISO Handbook Review.......2002-01-24
As an EMS project manager I found this book to very comprehensive with easy to follow case studies that were clear, concise and proved to be very valuable. So much of implementing an EMS deals with change management and this handbook lays out what changes an organization and skills a project manager needs to consider as it makes steps on this path toward ISO 14001 implementation. Another benefit is the excellent, easy to read examples created for each element of the standard providing a great starting point from which to take that leap! I recommend the handbook to others investigating environmental management systems.
Practical, Straight-forward Approach.......2001-02-22
Practical, straight-forward, simple approach to EMS implementation! We have used as part of our standard training with employee teams.
Handbook for Implementing an ISO 14001 EMS: A Practical Appr.......2001-01-29
This handbood explains the elements of ISO 14001 and how to implement them in a clear and concise manner. The authors make the reader feel confident that they can implement an EMS no matter what their industry.
I like how they step through each element of the standard, explain what it means and then show how others have addressed that element with real world examples. We hear from environmental managers in five companies (from a small, Midwest tool manufacturer to a mulit-national pharmaceutical conglomerate) how they implemented their EMS. Actual copies of policies, aspects lists, management meeting notes and cost data as well as tips and advice are, sprinkled throughout the book. There is also a list or resources and related websites listed in an appendix.
This is an easy read (a plus for anyone with limited time) and would make an excellent addition to an EMS training package. I will recommend it to my membership.
Curtis Lindskog, President, Pacific Industrial and Business Association
Handbook for Implementing an ISO 14001 Environmental.......2001-01-24
It is often the curse of wise, visionary ideas: When they're new and haven't yet gained widespread use or brand-name familiarity they somehow seem more complicated--and difficult to implement--than in fact they are. This "appearance" of complexity keeps well-meaning people or companies from moving ahead--and so progress stalls. For those directly involved, and for the rest of us.
Such is the case with ISO 14001, an elegant new way for organizations to bolster their bottom lines--and their communities' environments--at the same time. The ISO idea only seems complicated.
This book demystifies the seemingly arcane concept and makes environmental management systems readily accessible to smokestack industries, high-tech companies, even government organizations.
When I needed to understand the hows and whys of environmental management systems for a project I was working on, the straightforward language and clear design of this book made my education quick as well as thorough. It made what felt like a huge and complex undertaking seem not only manageable but worth doing.
Today, if I were implementing an EMS in an organization, I'd get copies of this book to all of my key people and make sure they had the time to read it and then discuss it together. I can't recommend this volume highly enough.
Cliff notes for the Professional........2001-01-19
We have used this book as a training tool and as an appreciation gift for clients and staff. The book has a very practical approach. I've described the book as better than "Cliff Notes" but not a dissertation. We have clients requst bulk orders to use as training materials for their staff.

Book Description
Introduction to Dusty Plasma Physics contains a detailed description of the occurrence of dusty plasmas in our Solar System, the Earth's mesosphere, and in laboratory discharges. The book illustrates numerous mechanisms for charging dust particles and provides studies of the grain dynamics under the influence of forces that are common in dusty plasma environments.
Customer Reviews:
The Best Dusty Plasma Book.......2004-08-23
This is THE BEST dusty plasma book. I have had to use this in my research and this book encompasses every bit of this subject. It is very informative and tells a great deal.
Review of 'Introduction to Dusty Plasma Physics'.......2002-05-03
The book was written by authors who directly participated in the development of dusty plasma theory. It addresses current knowledge about dusty plasmas and summarizes more than 20 years of research in this rapidly evolving subject with its own wide range of topics . . . Overall, the book gives a comprehensive analysis of basic dusty plasma physics, combining in an original way laboratory and space plasma topics. There is no doubt that the book will find a well-deserved place on the shelves of all the plasma physicists and astrophysicists with an interest in space and laboratory dusty plasmas.

From People Who Liked It
"It is rare for a book to produce uncontrollable laughter as loud as this one did. The narrator is at art college in the 1950s, and after failing to get the courses he wants, finds himself attending 'Introduction to Graphic Design,' taught by the inspiring, sadistic, and compelling Professor Winter Sorbeck. Through humiliation and excess he shows his naive young charges how to see the world through new eyes. This is a brilliantly entertaining debut -- intelligent, pitch-perfect, and enlightening."
-- The Times (London)
This story about growing up and finding your calling is funny and, almost despite itself, moving. Here the big ideas -- about growing, working, loving -- are all inside."
-- New York Times Book Review
An irresistible comic voice that sounds so modern, and so right, even as it re-creates the undergraduate life of the late 1950s."
-- Los Angeles Times Book Review
"Channeling Holden Caulfield via David Sedaris, Kidd produces a stellar debut."
-- Publishers Weekly
"A Joyride."
-- Miami Herald
Not only is [The Cheese Monkeys] sharp and funny, it's also one of the year's most original American novels."
-- Toronto Globe and Mail
From People Who Didn't
"Retro kitsch. Thoroughly sophomoric."
-- Entertainment Weekly
"The first section veers dangerously towards the predictable. Kidd has a way to go before his literary skills equal his artistic genius."
-- Time Out (New York)
Download Description
A hilarious debut novel that could only be described as a portrait of the designer as a young man. "Um...so what exactly is a Cheese Monkey?" Good question. But strictly off-limits. We can tell you that The Cheese Monkeys is a witty and effervescent coming-of-age novel about headless waterfowl, fake plastic babies, and the basic tenets of graphic design. It's 1957, long before computers have replaced the trained eye and skillful hand. Our narrator at State U is determined to major in Art, and after several risible false starts, he ends up by accident in a new class called "Introduction to Graphic Design." Art 127 is taught by the enigmatic Winter Sorbeck, professor and guru (think Gary Cooper crossed with Darth Vader) -- equal parts genius, seducer, and sadist. Sorbeck is a bitter yet fascinating man whose assignments hurl his charges through a gauntlet of humiliation and heartache, shame and triumph, ego-bashing and enlightenment. Along the way, friendships are made and undone, jealousies simmer, the sexual tango weaves and dips. As readers, we too are under Sorbeck's bizarre spell, spurred on by his demand: "Show me something I've never seen before and will never be able to forget-if you can do that, you can do anything." By the end of The Cheese Monkeys, the members of Art 127 will never see the world the same way again. And, thanks to Chip Kidd's insights into the secrets of graphic design, neither will you.
Customer Reviews:
Spectacular!.......2007-03-09
I haven't finished yet, but I LOVE this book. It is too funny and smart. Chip Kidd is THE design god and apparently a great writer too.
Interesting and original.......2007-01-25
This is the story of a graphic design class, except it really *is* a graphic design class. Our hero is enrolled in an art class at a state university, and the offerings are, at best, sleepy. Until Winter Sorbeck, graphic design teacher, strides into the narrative and wakes everyone up. The characterization of this charismatic, brutal teacher is no less than masterful, and also an interesting study in power and the dark sway of advertising ("you infect them with your obsessions").
Chip Kidd has a sharp, sure way with language and tells the story of beleaguered art majors like no one has before. The only drawback is an inconclusive ending, a fizzled wreck that detracts from the rest of the story. Up until then, though, it's 5 stars.
Not bad for a first novel.......2006-09-14
But Kidd needs to work on character development. Cheese Monkeys has the standard key players in this kind of scenario - Naive Young Narrator, Shocking Misfit Who Dresses Oddly, Southern Transplant, Egotistical Professor Who Teaches Through Fear, etc. No idea who these people really are or how they became the sketches of personality we are presented. Kidd also needs to work on better endings. Read Donna Tartt's Secret History instead.
Good is Dead.......2006-05-29
I dove into this book and devoured it with ravenous pleasure. I loved it all the way up to the last chapter "The Final Exam," when the whimsical insanity and humour which had defined the book thus far deflated and was replaced with an ending which left me scratching my head and muttering "what the hell?" Perhaps this was Kidd's purpose. I know one thing is for certain, this book presented me with images that I had "never before seen, and will never be able to forget."
Art School Confidential.......2006-02-25
If you ever went art school, you will love this book. Everything you loved, everything you hated, right down to the teacher(s) that you both loved and hated. Hilarious, endearing, and sometimes soulcrushing, just like art school.
Chip Kidd has proven himself to be a great designer, and this is a good start for him becoming a good writer. It's a quick and engrossing read. Even if you never went to art school, I would recommend it.
