That is the book.......2006-05-10

For a long time I have been searching for an algorithm book which is comprehensible, easy to follow. This is the book, I am really looking for. The other books like "Introduction to Algorithms" and most of the others do not give the point of the subject, full of mathematics, strange symbols many unneccessary details, I think that the other authors must follow the approach like in this book.

I wish that the author had also written other books containing the other advanced algorithm issues like network flow, linear programming... I would have bought without hesitating...

Good Basic Textbook.......2001-12-12

I am a professor of computer science and used this book for my Algorithms class. Although it had a few errors, there were many things I liked about it. First, the size of the book is just right; it covers all of the major subjects and I was able to use the entire text in one semester. Other textbooks cover topics in so much detail, I often had to leave many topics out of the course. Second, the active learning approach is great; having students do in class exercises and group projects helped them grasp the material more quickly. Third, I liked the omission of higher level mathematics; our college offers a degree in computer science but also other computer-related degrees which do not require a knowledge of calculus. Any student should be able to grasp the math in this book. In conclusion, I will use this text again and look forward to other authors writing books that "get to the point" quickly like this author did.

Excellent: Ferrets 101.......1999-11-05

Although I liked the companion book (Training Your Pet Ferret) more, this is an excellent concise guide for someone who knows nothing about ferrets. This is not a book for anyone who has even a working knowledge about ferret behavior. But then again I haven't found a good guide yet that goes in depth into ferret matters for those of us who know the basics about them, but would like to know more.

While some of the information is unique to this book (like the part about ferret sounds and body language) there are some alarming errors (a ferret should NEVER be housed in an aquarium!). Use it as an additional reference, but not your primary one. You should have several different sources to refer to anyway.

There are many more up-to-date reference books on the Domestic Pet Ferret. It's an add to my Ferret book collection only. I recommend researching all books available before deciding to be owned by Ferrets.

Please don't buy this book, you may hurt your Ferret!.......1999-01-11

As a keeper of Ferrets here in England I was appalled when I was given this book as a present for Christmas 98'. There are a number of really quite harmful and cruel elements to this book This could not be further from the truth. The Ferret is a highly social animal and they should really be kept in a minimum of threes, two females and a male.

De-scenting. This is a highly controversial prac n integral part of the animals communication system and to remove them just for the delicate nostrils of the owner is really very unfair on the animal.

To say that Ferrets release odour when in fear of their life is quite innaccurate. Ferrets release an odour when they are excited, prior to eating, before hunting or going for a walk.

Within the book the subject of housing the Ferret is not covered at all satisfatorily, to suggest that a Ferret needs a cage of only 10 inches in height is cruel. Ferrets are climbers by ntaure and mine reguarly climb the seven feet to the top of their 6 foot by 6 foot court. There is scant reference to the correct size and positioning of an outdoor court and cub.

I could go on, but frankly the 1000 word limit is rapidly running out. But for those die hards amongst you who rate this book, just refer to the "My tip" on page 23, advising the reader "never to strike the Ferret's body" This lady must really have been struggling for something to write if she thinks that the average Ferret loving reader would hit such a small animal!

The picture of the "White-footed butterscotch" on page 41 is further testament to this authors own ineptitude, either if this Ferret is her own or the picture is from a library, it should never have been used in a reference book. The poor animal's nails are clearly too long and should have been t rimmed, if they grow much further they'll grow back under themselves! Poor Ferret.

One thing this "guide" is not is complete!

This is one of few books I would actually recommend........1998-12-10

This book is fairly accurate (especially in comparison with the other books I have read!) and is a good book to start with for a new gerbil owner. While the original version is out of stock there is a new edition released recently. It has a pink cover with an argente golden/cream (cinnamon) gerbil on the front, written by the same author, etc. It's exactly the same with a few new pictures, and also very good.

The Handbook of Solvents contains up-to-date information about the usages of solvent. The references of each chapter show that the book was written with up-to-date materials. As a coating and paint technology engineer, I have interests in solvent selection. This book guided me to select solvent by its solubility properties, evaporation properties, toxicities and their relation to the appropriate applications.

Apparently, I was not reading the same book as the other reviewers.

I hated this book. Although the premise was supposed to be funny, it felt forced and cruel to me.

I usually like chick lit mixed in with weight issues. I am a fan, however, this book just made me gag.

It felt cruel and mean-spirited and it took all I had just to get through it.

This book was one of the funniest books I've ever read. I about embarrassed my boyfriend on an airplane because I was laughing so hard I cried while reading this book.

It's a book about a new type of diet motiviation. Just when you thought you've heard the craziest idea for a diet out comes the Infidelity Diet! Three women tell their 300+ pound husbands that they can have a night with a prostitute if they get down to 210 lbs. The women are joking because they don't think their husbands are capable of losing that much weight but they underestimate sexual desire! The journey is very funny!

I don't know what the folks at Publisher's Weekly were smoking when they reviewed this book, but it's obvious they weren't approaching it with the right frame of mind. Maybe they just got out of the wrong side of the bed that day because nothing was forced about the humor. It evolved from the story and was a genuine treat. I love the premise and can easily envision this becoming a movie. Imagine the three guys going from fat suits to studs ... it would be great entertainment, just like this gem of a book is. So glad I found it. (I do have to wonder, though, if the title will make people think they're actually going to get diet info in it. Imagine their surprise...)
