Customer Reviews:
Great overview. It was really enlightening.......2007-10-03
I moved to US 7 years ago, so all this stuff on retirement plans, mortgages, investments, was a big cloud of information to me. Very slowly I started learning about finances reading articles over the internet. When I got this book, I couldn't stop reading it. It gave me a great overview of how to put my financial life together. It is very easy to read. Yes, it's not the solution to all your financial problems, but it's a great overview with very enlightening information.
The only thing I didn't find details about was 457 retirement plans (even though it talks about others). That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.
A workbook for early-career savers.......2006-08-29
Books like Beth Kobliner's have to earn their place on your bookshelf. After all, these days plenty of personal finance advice is available for free on the Internet. That said, this book is a wise investment for early-career professionals who would like advice about getting out of debt. Although its guidance is solid-if-predictable, it is well-researched and straightforwardly written. Kobliner provides an authoritative "further reading" list for those who want to delve deeper into how to get their finances on an even keel. This book does not promise to make you rich overnight, and it doesn't exactly qualify as a page-turner, but it lends a helping hand. We recommend it to young people whose financial life is just a bit too exciting.
Great for the ignorant.......2005-08-30
I wish I had this book when I was 19 and applying for credit cards. This book has great information in understandable terms for those who are beginning their financial journeys in life from opening bank accounts to buying homes. It also provides good stories as examples to explain some concepts that are more difficult to grasp, especially for those who are not financially savvy (like me). I will be giving this to my 19 year old brother so that he can be smarter about money than i was at his age (I'm 25).
Excellent Resource.......2005-08-09
I have given this book to over 8 people. Most of which were in the 20-25 year old range. This book covers so many topics that most people simply know very little about that ends up hurting them financially. I highly recommend this book to anyone. I actually keep copies on hand in case I meet someone new.
Very basic and understandable book.......2005-05-04
Although It is a bit out-dated, still very good for learning the concepts of finance.
("Everything with .com is a hit!!!!" not a good prognosis Mrs. Kobliner)

Book Description
The idea of legal rights today enjoys virtually universal appeal, yet all too often the meaning and significance of rights are poorly understood. The purpose of this volume is to clarify the subject of legal rights by drawing on both historical and philosophical legal scholarship to bridge the gap between these two genres--a gap that has divorced abstract and normative treatments of rights from an understanding of their particular social and cultural contexts.
Legal Rights: Historical and Philosophical Perspectives shows that the meaning and extent of rights has been dramatically expanded in this century, though along with the widespread and flourishing popularity of rights, voices of criticism have increasingly been raised. The authors take up the question of the foundation of rights and explore the postmodern challenges to efforts to ground rights outside of history and language. Drawing rich historical analysis and careful philosophical inquiry into productive dialogue, this book explores the many facets of rights at the end of the twentieth century. In these essays, potentially abstract debates come alive as they are related to the struggles of real people attempting to cope with, and improve, their living conditions. The significance of legal rights is measured not just in terms of philosophical categories or as a collection of histories, but as they are experienced in the lives of men and women seeking to come to terms with rights in contemporary life.
Contributors are Hadley Arkes, William E. Cain, Thomas Haskell, Morton J. Horwitz, Annabel Patterson, Michael J. Perry, Pierre Schlag, and Jeremy Waldron.

Earth Alive!; From Microbes to a Living Planet.......2006-07-25
Absolutely fantastic. Is an excellent, very well written book.
Book Description
In this candid look at the contemporary rise in spiritualism and the occult you'll be exposed to the problems and dangers of false worship in light of Scripture.
Customer Reviews:
Dont waste your money.......2007-01-31
As far as this book goes, I give it one star. The overdramatic "too good to be true" tone of this book makes me think it's on a par with "The Satan Seller" by Mike Warnke. Hal tries to set himself up as an expert on the occult and Satanism, with the flashy, sensationalistic expose style of journalism (typical of the late sixties, early seventies) grabbing many readers' attention.
I'd have to differ with Rick B.'s assessment in some other ways, too.
Without questioning the sincerity of Hal Lindsey's belief in Christ, I have to point out that he has shown a real and troublesome anti-Catholic streak, much more recently. He published a glowing appraisal of the so-called "St. Malachy Prophecies" in WND a year or so ago, and highlighted the prediction in those "prophecies" that Pope Benedict will be succeeded by somebody named Peter the Roman, who will be the antichrist.
Hal's assertions all these years that a revived Roman empire would be the vehicle of the antichrist always hinted at an anti-Catholic attitude, but this finally confirmed it in no uncertain terms.
Thus, I have no doubt now that Hal Lindsey lumps Catholic liturgy in with Satanism and New Age practices. Other people have written about the danger of these things without the anti-Catholicism. My suggestion is to read them, not Hal Lindsey.
TRUTH.......2006-11-13
People like bunker2k1 sicken me, talking about peace and then turning around and saying how much he enjoys Burning books. The fact is that the Acult is no different then most other religions. Christianity its self is the largest Acult. So before you start preaching about peace and Jesus Why don't you look into the history of Christianity. You will then see the Purest of all evil. Wonder why its the most excepted religion? Lets see because The Christian faith was a plague across the land killing entire villages of people and converting all it can. You where told to drop your faith and except Christ. This is the reason today it is where it is. Not because of love or peace but with murder, hate and the idea of having everyone believe in the same thing. If you look at history where do you see devil worshippers or witches even killing 1% of the people that Christians, catholics do. they don't, its a fear tactic to make people believe their is a "DEVIL" Around every corner to keep people believing in the lie. So you can Pray to your GOD of false LOVE believing their is a devil and the acult is out their waiting to take you and your children, Or you can open your eyes do some research and you will find out Christian based religions are the Acult you place so much fear into.
The Guilt Trip.......2006-10-14
I had read this book after I had read THE LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH. The chapter about the Guilt Trip and how others try to run us by putting false religious guilt on us seems to be happening to me now on my street. I had seen the movie AMADEUS about the great Classical composer Mozart and how a crafty evil Catholic Cardinal had driven him to work himself to death by making him feel like he was responsible for the death of this father. Satan comes in all forms in this world. I guess the Catholic church is still very skilled in using false guilt to ruin the lives of people as had happened to me.
What I find so amusing..........2005-07-19
... is the fact that this book is often listed under the "occult" section. PLEASE! Satan is a CHRISTIAN figurehead, don't confuse Christian beliefs with Wiccan or Pagan. Wiccans do not believe in Satan, he belongs to the Christians, not us.
Satan Is Alive And Well And Living On Planet Earth...huh Hal.......2005-04-27
The book is so depressing I could barely read it.You have to read it with a truck load of salt to keep it from making you
want to leave the planet all together!
The only evidence of Satan seems to be the money hungry
preachers who feed on people's fear while they live in
mansions and make millions at your expense.
We have to give up the notion of all engulfing evil in order to
find and see the goodness in the world to make it a better place.Until we are able to do this we will be running to the
bookstore to get the latest doom book to feed our fears.

It scared the hell out of me........2002-08-22
The first time i read "The Late Great Planet Earth" i was in my early 20's. At that time it didn't have that much of an inpack on me. Now i'm 54 and have re-read the whole series. Put it this way,,,,i have returned to church after a 25 year absence. Draw your own conclusion.
So when is the Rapture?.......2000-05-21
Read Gentry, or Demar instead. Unfortunately nonsense like Lindsey style fiction sells.

What a waste of time. Serious book readers - stay away! His apocalyptic view of the "Yellow Peril" disgusts me.
the armagedden prediction.......1999-05-11
I read this book by the theologist Hal Lindsey many years ago. It was a book written in the 80's about the apocalypse armageddon or the end of the world to come. If you thought Nostradsamous was accurate, you haven't read about Hal Lindsey's revelations based on the bible, prophets such as Nostradamous and others. He predicted in the 80's about the WWW3, THE ANTI-CHRIST AND EVEREY COUNTRY THAT WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE LAST WA ON THE PLANET, THE NUCLEAR HALACUST TO COME;IE AND NOW, 1999, WITH THE U.S.( EEC OF TEN CONTRIES ) ,NATO, GOING AT IT WITH SERBIA,YUGOSLAVIA, RUSSIAN TENSIONS,CHINA EMBASSY BOMBINGS WAS PREDICTED DEADLY ACCURATE BY Hal over ten years ago. You wanted to know who's going to be involved in the serbia war, the countries involved in ww3, the armageddon, apocalyse, etc. Then this book will blow your mind at its predicted accuracy on the end results of what's going on right now in serbia, nato, the russians, china, ww3, the anti-chirist ( he tells you his identity ) and the nuclear halacaust and the end of the world to come in the few short years we have left before were just lke the dinosaurs.
Customer Reviews:
A great second book in the series!.......2006-09-17
This book truly expands upon the messages of Stones Alive, volume I, and takes it to a deeper and more meaningful level.
This volume contains new Stonecombinations, many new stories to share, and the essences of many different Stonebeings to compliment the first book. The Twintreess have added a listing of stones for various uses that cross-references both volumes, and have included a section of "Stone Families," in which the personalities of minerals from various locations around the world have been detailed beside one another. Among these families are Calcite, Amethyst, Quartz, and numerous others.
Another feature of this book is an introduction to working with elemental minerals, and with isolated Rare Earth Elements themselves. As catalysts for change, they are unparalled.
These books take the reader on an adventure into the heart of using stones, Nature's history books and most patient teachers, in the New Millennium.

Book Description
This book series in the rapidly growing field of computational physics offers up-to-date (submitted to the publisher by electronic mail) reviews for the researcher.
The first volume, written by authors from four continents, emphasizes statistical physics. For example, Ising problems are reviewed where theoretical approaches led to contradictory approaches and only quality computing answered who is right. In addition, fields as diverse as neural networks, granular materials, and computer algebra are reviewed.
The next volume on percolation and other fields is already in preparation.

Farm Fatale is a breezy Cinderella of a novel, tarted up in wellies and corduroy rather than the more traditional ball gown. Its theme--Londoners move to the country--is a well worn one in British comic writing, and Farm Fatale hews closely to tradition. Rosie is a disgruntled illustrator, bored with city living and dissatisfied with her relationship. She convinces her crabby boyfriend Mark to move with her to the country. Samantha and Guy--a trophy wife and the man who bagged her--end up in the same town, dragging their pretensions along with them. Village life looks easy enough, but the four newcomers find plenty of pitfalls among the cows, the mud, the marauding hippies, and the leaky outbuildings. This is the kind of novel that ends with someone slipping a "pale blue Tiffany ring box" into the heroine's hand; the fun is in finding out just who that suitor will be. --Claire Dederer
Book Description
Rosie and Mark, a couple living in chic urban squalor, pine for the rustic bliss of country life. Newly minted, Samantha and Guy want the same thing-on a somewhat grander scale. The four converge on the quaint village of Eight Mile Bottom. With its eccentric residents, including a reclusive rock star, a nosy postman, a foxy farmer, and one ghost with a knife in its back, the two couples are soon swept up in various romantic entanglements, mix-ups, slipups, and unlikely seductions in their search for ever-greener pastures.
Farm Fatale is another witty, irresistible gem from a hip and savvy author.
Customer Reviews:
"...and the church bells struck sixteen...".......2007-04-22
Artist Rosie hates the noise, crowds, and pressure of living in her cramped London flat, and longs to live in a cozy old cottage nestled in a picturesque village, full of quaint, friendly folk. Her city-loving boyfriend finally agrees to move to the country, and they settle in the town of Eight-Mile Bottom, where a handsome farmer, a reclusive rock star, and some comic locals will change her life forever.
Told from Rosie's point of view, the story is very funny and at times, quite touching. It's easy to identify with her longing for love and fulfillment, as she charges full-steam ahead in pursuit of her dreams. Sometimes we wish Rosie made better choices, but it's a journey that will put a smile on your face. The story proceeds at a leisurely pace, with plenty of time to get to know all the fascinating characters that live in the village, from the nosy mailman to the hippie family next door. The narrative is full of British idioms and references that add flavor and humor; an audio book would definitely be fun to listen to, and, I think it would make a great movie.
"Farm Fatale" is a witty, hip, gossipy fish-out-of-water story that you won't want to put down. Highly recommended.
The city folk are coming.............2007-04-22
This is a delightfully witty commentary on city folk who chuck it all in to dwell in rustic splendor in the idyllic countryside around Eight Mile Bottom, but who get a lot more than they bargained for.
If you liked Bridget Jones's Diary or appreciate British humor, you'll enjoy the resulting calamities, confusion, misunderstandings and slapstick comedy that ensue when Rosie and Mark and Samantha and Guy make the big move to their respective dream country dwellings.
Full of local color, scandalous gossip, and a wide range of eccentric (or just plain strange) characters, the author regales us with the trials of the decidedly not well-to-do Rosie and her writer boyfriend Mark, and the misery of everybody else having the bad luck to encounter the filthy rich Samantha.
A hunky farmer, a reclusive pop star and a houseful of ghosts round out the story, which is recommended if you're looking for an extremely light tension-relieving read.
Amanda Richards
Light and fun reading.......2007-01-15
Holden's books are a fun change. The characters are funny, sometimes in a repellent way, and the situations are good for chuckles. I buy all of her books and go through them quickly. It's fun to see some repeating themes, and they always manifest a bit differently.
Cute but not great.......2006-07-21
This book was cute and nice for a "nothing serious" kind of summer read, but the plot just kind of fell apart toward the end and you're left scratching your head at the huge leaps in storyline. I got mine cheap, so I'm not disappointed, but don't pay full price for this one!
Quickly going nowhere..........2006-03-09
I have to agree with those who said that the first two-thirds of the book are much better than the last third. That said, the first two-thirds aren't that great either.
I liked how the story switches between the two main characters, but by the end, the author obviously got lazy/tired/anxious and made Samantha cliched and completely stopped telling her story. And the boyfriend kind of dropped off the face of the planet. And the farmer? She's in love with him for 200 pages but then the rock star is introduced and in one paragraph the farmer meets and falls in love with some lady who saw his singles ad? Puh-leeeeeze.
This book was written by someone with no sense of pacing, no creativity, and thank GOD it cost me, what, $4.00 or so? I feel ashamed having such a crappy book on my bookshelf.
