If you are looking to hack this book is for you. I found that visual basic is a good programming language. C++,Python,Java, and many more langs will have hacks. Its up to you to learn how to write them. You must learn the programming language before you start looking at hacking, because other wise you are wasting your time.Many hackers are self driven and want to create programs and discover flaws in programs. It is my personal experience that you will not find every thing you want to know from one book. If you are seriously into Networking and Security i sugeset learning from some one who will teach you and offers classes on it (this would be hands on learning) EcCouncil is a great reference and will teach you a lot.

Good overview of network security from a very social perspective. If you are looking for tools based methodology this book misses the mark.
If you are interested in social engineering and social trends of hacking, this is right on.
I felt the book started off fairly strong but started to decline as the focus went more and more into social impacts of hacktivism.

This book provides some pretty concise details for 370 pages. It's very pratical and entertaining to read. The writing style gives you a feeling of mysteriousness. However, the writer's insights are disputable; you may not agree with all of the comments he has on things. Of course that doesn't change the fact this book provides a lot of details on several internet topics one little book.

I don't understand the appeal of this book.
I've been around the internet phenomenon in one form or another for almost 20 years. I'm conversant with the history of many technical and cultural happenings on it. As a result, I'm probably not the best reader for an 'shocking truths' book because none of it is going to shock me.
I read this book thinking I might come across a few clever tactics I'd not heard of, and because it has been marketed as cynical and funny writing. We had a copy of Rube Goldberg's Steal This Book in the house when I was young, so I was hoping for something in that vein too.
Honestly, I struck out on all three. There wasn't anything new for me, which was fine. I didn't find the humor lame or bad. As a matter of fact, I simply didn't find it. Am I not reading it right? And finally, the irreverent I was looking forward to...well, I'm not entirely sure it's possible in this context. The book didn't deliver that premise for me, but I'm not sure it can really be done anymore. That time and those circumstances in our culture are different from this time and these circumstances.
Someone who is idly curious about how the internet "really works," likes a long read, and can get into being entertained on the topic might enjoy this book. For me however it was flatly informative, sometimes a little forced, and simply not a funny piece of writing.

Steal This Resource Book.......2005-08-02
Almost 90% of the information I found in this book can be found online in a matter of minutes from any major news source. All the concepts presented are basic in design and offer no technical explanation on how to do anything. The only positive points I saw in this book was it's website references. There are hundreds of websites listed with further information and software on every topic of file sharing and other copyright enigmas. It's decent for a beginner in file sharing to understand the basics. For everyone else, it makes for good reference material to find the information you were hoping to get from the book.
Everything You Want to Know.......2005-04-09
Wang's other book (Steal This Computer Book) explored the "dark underbelly" of the 'Net and this book in effect picks up where the other book leaves off. You can debate whether or not file sharing is legal and ethical, but no one can deny it is here to stay. Not only does Wang explain where to find files (at places like file sharing networks, newsgroups, chat rooms, etc.), he also describes ways to stay anonymous while doing so. There are also chapters on file formats, sharing music, movies, TV shows, even software, video games and the most popular item, pornography.
I find it interesting speaking of porn that porn producers seem to have found ways to deal with this issue and yet the "establishment" still feels the best way to fight it is through legal action. The book's last two chapters describe the future of file sharing and how the entertainment industries continue to fight back. They may try copy protection schemes, but it seems there's always someone who finds a way to defeat those schemes.
Regardless of how you feel about this issue, this is a well-written and informative book, written in the same spirit of Steal This Computer Book.

I got almost nothing out of this book. I've been file-sharing for about two months. The worst is that the book is totally out of date; it has almost nothing about bittorrent which has taken over the file-sharing world.
I would only get this book for someone who is new not just to file-sharing, but to the internet in general. Even then it is only good as an introduction to general concepts; there is little useful detailed technical information.

I love Wallace Wang's Steal This Computer Book 3. In this book, Wang takes his best-selling knowledge and writing style and focuses it on a new subject- sharing files.
I learned a lot in the opening section. I have been familiar with peer-to-peer (P2P) networking since the advent of Napster, but I was not aware that such a wide variety of sources existed for finding and sharing files. Wang points out web sites, FTP sites, instant messaging and chat rooms and more where you can share files.
Even better than that, he doesn't just list sites, but rather provides in-depth analysis of many, explaining what is good or bad about the different resources and pitfalls to watch out for. He also includes many graphic illustrations which help you understand the information better.
This book sheds light on a number of "fringe" file sharing tools and resources. The mainstream is familiar with the likes of Kazaa and Morpheus, but Wang delves into many more tools. He points out some of the things to watch out for when using some of the shadier tools and networks as well.
The RIAA and MPAA may not like it, but in some way, shape or form, file sharing is here to stay and this book will help you find what you need and use file sharing securely.

Whether it's music, programs, games, books or other files it seems that everyone is downloading something over the Internet these days. If you want to know how to find the files you want and download them safely then you will be interested in this book.
The author covers a wide array of places to find files including newsgroups, websites, Instant Messenger, Internet Relay Chat, FTP, and networks that are designed specifically for file sharing such as Gnutella, FastTrack, and eDonkey. One of the most interesting parts for the average computer user is the one with information on how to remain anonymous when sharing files. Of course, this section also includes information on the problems of file sharing - viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, adware, and even warez.
I've traded files and worked on the Internet for years and I still learned a few tips in this book. The author includes lots of illustrations and specific web sites where you can download the programs he mentions as well as several alternative ones. Mr. Wang even provides a complete analysis of each program's advantages and disadvantages. One of the things I really like is the fact that he includes information on programs you should be careful downloading and using including Fast Track clients that come loaded with spyware like Kazaa and iMesh.
If you don't like AIM he even covers Private Internet Messenger products like Meet Gate, P2P Instant Messenger, and Pal Talk. The breadth of coverage is impressive, the writing and organization excellent. Steal This File-Sharing Book is highly recommended to anyone who shares files over the Internet.

For traders with Microsoft Excel experience........2002-02-17
I think this book is targeted towards discretionary traders who are comfortable with trading indicators (MA, RSI, MACD, etc.), but unfamiliar with how to back test these indicators on historic data. If you want to back test your trading ideas in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, this book may be of interest to you. If you already know how to test systems on Trade Station or Super Charts, this book is probably too elementary.
This book is divided into two parts. Part I explains the theory of "Smart Momentum." Part II shows step-by-step how to implement it in Microsoft Excel. The nice thing about this book is that Part II parallels Part I on a chapter-by-chapter basis.
The book focuses on (a) indicator creation, (b) indicator selection, and (c) indicator combination. The logical development of a trading system proceeds as follows:
An equity curve shows cumulative dollars extracted from the market versus time. The "Smart Momentum Ratio" (SMR) summarizes an equity curve in a single number. (The author claims the Sharpe ratio, in and of itself, is not good enough.)
One can compare equity curves by comparing their respective SMRs. The better the equity curve, the larger the SMR.
Since an equity curve is the cumulative daily result of a trading indicator: The better the trading indicator, the larger the SMR.
A collection of one or more trading indicators comprises a trading system. Since a single indicator may fail under certain market conditions, it is desirable to build a trading system out of several uncorrelated indicators.
If one varies the parameters of a trading indicator, and its SMR stays relatively constant, then that indicator is said to be "robust." Indicators that contain SMR spikes (referred to as "Matterhorns") are not robust. Curve fitting is avoided by using several data windowing methods, which are briefly mentioned.
By the way, this book does not teach you how to use Microsoft Excel. It only gives you the Excel spreadsheet formulas to enter into spreadsheet cells (I did not test them to see if they were accurate). The techniques shown in this book are fine for tinkering in Excel, but to seriously create and analyze indicators the way the author suggests would take man-years in front of Excel. This may lead a person serious about developing trading systems into computer programming and optimization algorithms. For the latter approach, I recommend "The Encyclopedia of Trading Strategies" by Katz and McCormick.
Because of the above reason, and the reasons that follow, I only gave the book 4 stars (with respect to its intended target audience):
Chapter 9 - Spreadsheet preliminaries) The author uses USDJPY data sampled at 6:00, 12:00, and 18:00 GMT, but does not tell where to acquire such data.
Chapter 11 - Indicator selection) The author tells how to find robust indicators, but does not give the Excel steps needed to generate the 3D charts used in companion chapter 4.
Chapter 12 - Indicator combination) Indicator correlation matrices are presented. The author says they are generated with the Excel "correl" function, but does not reveal what cell references to use.
Chapter 13 - Maintenance) Failing indicators are replaced with new ones on a frequent basis. In my opinion, this is not the signature of a robust trading strategy.

Pass this book by if you want thoughtful analysis. Apparently, Mr. Chilton thinks the 1992 elections were about abortion. It is amazing in hindsight how silly that idea seems. This blinded focus undermines much of the book. Further, Mr. Chilton could stand to tone down his purple prose. Stick to the facts!

I bought this book at my school's bookstore and it was well worth the money. I would laugh out loud in bed at night. Therefore, my roomate read it and about 10 other girls in my hall read it before the year was up. It is absolutely hilarious for a college freshman, but I'm sure other people would find it funny too. It's really fun and easy to read, not too much thinking.

A Different Type of ABC's.......2003-04-08
The Alphabetical Hookup List A to J, K to Q, and R to Z are three books in a fictional series by Phoebe McPhee. Three girls, Jodi Stein, Celeste Alexander, and Ali Sheppard are all roommates at Pollard University. These three girls seem to have nothing in common at first until one night when Jodi finds her boyfriend, Buster, in an awkward position; Celeste discovers an unexpected side to her crush, Jordan; and Ali has a bad phone call with her boyfriend, Sensei. This only leaves one problem-- they all are left single. What starts out as an innocent game of scrabble turns into a bottle of Tequila and the hardest contest ever--each girl has to kiss one guy for each letter of the alphabet. The catch? The guys have to be in alphabetical order according to their first names, not as easy as it seems. The girls never thought that they would ever go to the extents that they did to try to get different letters of the alphabet. Who would have thought that kissing other girls, monkeys, old men, gay guys, straight guys and even ex-boyfriends could bring three girls so close to be almost like sisters?
The first book concentrates on defining the rules of the game, the relationship of the girls with each other, and their journey through first semester earning their letters A to J. Throughout the first book the girls learn from each other and begin to bond through each of their relationships, which are later discussed in the second and third books. The girls each encounter their own problems, such as, Ali gets her letters by kissing girls, Jodi finds out that Celeste slept with her ex-boyfriend and Celeste finds out that her new crush is almost 35. The first book is the most interesting because it sets the stage of the series and introduces each girl's true self.
Book two, K to Q, focuses mainly on the second half of the first semester and the girls encountering even bigger problems. During this book the girls earn the reputation as ...because someone has found out about the contest and unless the girls do exactly what he wants...there reputations will be ruined. One of the girls discovers that playing the game is not worth losing a boyfriend over so she has to make a huge decision...lose a boyfriend? Or lose 2 of your best friends?
And finally in book three, R to Z, the girls have discovered their true selves and have grown to become the best of friends. You would think this book ends like any other novel or series, but after reading this series you will see that it does not.
I really enjoyed reading this series, it is fast paced and is guaranteed to keep you wanting to read more. I'm not one to enjoy many books, and in fact I hate reading, but these books really kept me interested. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes to read humor and can handle a little adult content. I would especially recommend this to every teenager and to any parent who needs an enlightening on today's society and the lives of teenagers in the twenty-first century. Teenagers and even parents can relate to this story, either to their own life or to that of someone else.
