Customer Reviews:
Appear to be some math errors in this book.......2002-05-08
I find this book to be well organized and easy to read. There is a great deal of useful material that does not go over anyone's head.
I think there are some math errors - I looked mostly in the CAPITAL BUDGETING chapter. On page 328, the present value of 3.3073 should be 3.0373 with disasterous results.
On page 348, the formulae for Standard Deviation appear to be totally wrong. Frankly I am amazed by these errors and they put most of the of math the book into serious question. I didn't continue into this chapter after this as I no longer trust the math - so beware and check for yourself.
This is unfortunate - except for some simple yet devastating errors, I like the book a great deal. Just too bad.
Complete Accounting Guide.......2001-05-29
This book was not only helpful with creating our companies budget, but it went into complete detail of every day functions our company should be performing. It outlined who should be responsible for what aspects of not only the budget but for daily, weekly, and monthly reports. The book was complete with diagrams and easy to follow samples. It was an easy read besides. The book has become part of our reference library.
Book Description
THE ONLY GUIDE YOU'LL NEED TO WISELY MANAGE YOUR INHERITANCE AND MAKE IT GROW FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS...
You're not alone. Sixty million Americans stand to be on the receiving end of an inheritance in the coming years. Planning is crucial if you hope to preserve your windfall, save on taxes, and avoid family squabbles. In The Inheritor's Handbook, expert Dan Rottenberg offers a comprehensive guide through the inheritance process that gets to the heart of the complex issues, both financial and emotional, that beneficiaries face. He demonstrates how future heirs can discuss money and wills, choose advisers, manage investments, and much more. Using real-life examples, Rottenberg provides tested solutions to sensitive inheritance issues -- before the time of death, at the time of death, and years later. The Inheritor's Handbook is the only book you'll need to help you manage the difficulties, decisions, and opportunities that come with inheriting.

Might be so basic it's not worth your time.......2000-01-20
If you're looking for solid guidance as an executer or fiduciary, go elsewhere. "How to Settle and Estate" is the better choice. The handbook gives a scant 7 pages of practical advice on what to do if/when someone close has died. Things like: Contact the funeral director, determine your parent's wishes concerning the funeral, ascertain whether your parents have already paid for their funeral, notify friends, locate the original copy of the will - - you get the idea. I was very disappointed especially given the glowing reviews provided by others.
Rare find........1999-03-08
Most books on estates and trusts are simply clueless in dealing with anything except for numbers and laws, as seen from the perspective of someone setting up a trust.
This book views the subject as a set of human issues, from the perspective of a trust beneficiary.
Though there are no other books on this subject matter to compare this one with, I thought that it did the job well.
Good presentation of "Plus's & Negatives" of alternatives.......1999-01-28
This book is very well written and organized without being "over legal." My recently deceased Father, who was an attorney speciallizing in Estate Law, always down-played Trusts (although he set one up for himself.) From this writing, I now see why they are not for everyone. I plan to purchase a copy for each of my siblings, as our Mother ages, to keep us on the same "wavelength."
A very good book!.......1999-01-06
As a potential beneficiary, I found this to be a very helpful and very readable primer on estate planning, the legal issues, and the emotional fallout that can occur as a result of inheritances. The advice given is all good. The appendices and lists of other contacts are very good. I was disappointed, however, that the author did not include any discussion on: the importance of titling of assets to aid in the estate planning; and how election of beneficiaries for insurance policies, retirement accounts, trusts, and financial accounts can affect the estate plan.
An excellent book for all people who may inheret someday........1998-12-29
This book is well-written and is split into sections for persons who may inheret, persons who's loved ones have died, and persons who have already inhereted. It discusses how to approach parents to determine what plans they have made, and what to do if they do not want to discuss their plans. It explains what a person should do in setting up "his" own estate, and discussing it with children. It lists a large number of resources (support groups, financial, philanthropic, and psychological advisors, and extensive printed materials). If you plan to leave money to anyone, or any entity, this is a good book to read.

Misbehaving Proteins: Protein (Mis)Folding, Aggregation, and Stability
ASIN: 038725398X |
Book Description
Recent developments of experimental techniques in cellular and molecular biology have made it possible to understand the molecular biology of male gametogenesis in greater detail. This book focuses on the description of specialized proteins, which are dominantly and/or specifically expressed in germ cells and localized in spermatozoa. There is an urgent need to classify proteins of spermatogenic cells with a view of their functions, and their applications in the regulation of fertility and in understanding infertility. The understanding of structural properties of male germ cell specific proteins can offer vulnerable points for targeted intervention in testis without generalized effects on stages of spermatogenesis. Besides targeted action in male germ cells, sperm specific proteins and polypeptides may also offer potential application in the development of a contraceptive vaccine.

Book Description
What we now call Colorado has been peopled for at least 12,000 years, or more than 400 human generations. During this period the region has seen a continual ebb and flow of human occupation in response to climatic variation and resource availability, but it has never been uninhabited. Once in Colorado, prehistoric populations began to adapt to specific circumstances. In the southwest and northwest such adaptations eventually led to village life and an economy based on corn horticulture. On the plains and in the mountains a highly resilient system based on hunting and gathering was maintained throughout prehistory. Between AD 1200 and 1450 most of the inhabitants left the state, quickly replaced by new emigrants from the north and west. These new emigrants were the groups encountered by Europeans as they entered the region. THE PREHISTORY OF COLORADO AND ADJACENT AREAS is a short, accessible account of the state's human past. Based on the archaeological record, this book reconstructs past lifeways using current theory and explanations. Using a regional, rather than site-specific approach, it presents current explanations of what prehistoric Coloradans did at various points in time and why they changed. The eight chapters consider the paleoindian era and the Clovis and Folsom periods, then focus on geographic regions: the plains; southwestern Colorado from Archaic Period through Basketmaker and Pueblo periods; the northwest, which includes the Fremont and Numic peoples; and the mountains, a region whose prehistoric significance is only beginning to be understood. A final chapter offers further discussion of the Numic-speakers (Utes, Comanches), Algonquian speakers (Arapaho, Cheyenne), plus plains trade networks during the early historic period.

Research Tool.......2000-07-03
This book answers many questions on the pre-history of Colorado and the surrounding area. I have used it as a research tool, but it is also a simple read for hobbyists and people interested in paleoindian cultures. The section on paleoenvironmental periods and climactic conditions was interesting and not found in other similar resources. The illustrations of different types of lithic points, as well as maps were helpful in visualizing the text. The appendices of plants, animals and fish found in Colorado are interesting additions. The emigration routes of the prehistoric people and how they led to the historic Indian tribes that the first Europeans encoutered are clearly described. I would have liked more speculation on what life was like for the prehistoric people and more illustrations on items such as clothing and tools other than the points, i.e. pottery, the atlatl, bone tools and ornaments. Also helpful would have been a graph or timeline of the diifferent periods of occupation. However, illustrations/photos of these items can be found in other resources. Overall, this publication does cover the prehistory of the region very well.

The Fifth Edition is the Best Yet........2006-05-07
For someone who really enjoys mountain trails, I seem to spend a lot of time in the Anza-Borrego Region. This ever-growing state park and surrounding public lands offer some of the best off season recreation in southern California and one cannot find a more comprehensive guide to the area than this book by Lowell and Diana Lindsay. With a huge map, sharp photos, and new updated GPS coordinates (using UTM and traditional lat/lon locations) this book is simply a must have for anyone who wants to spend time in the southern deserts.
Like previous editions, and unlike most Wilderness Press books, the focus of this guide is off-road vehicle travel and auto-touring. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the adjacent BLM lands (and Ocotilla Wells State Vehicle Recreational Area) cover such a large area that auto touring is simply the best way to explore the region. (The "Desert Driving Techniques" section of the introduction is almost mandatory reading for any would be RVers. The authors' humorous descriptions of what happens to weekend road warriers are plenty sufficient to keep me and my little chevy out of many of the areas they describe.) Still, the guide does feature many nature walks and dozens of longer hiking options, including a few backpacking trips. It also lists the many camping opportunities in the region.
Finally, like all Wilderness Press Books, this one is heavy on natural and cultural history. Readers will be treated to the story of Pegleg Smith and his legendary lost gold mine, the destruction of Oh My God hot springs, allegedly for health reasons but actually a concerted effort by citizens of Salton City to rid the area of nudists, the history of Ghost Mountain and poet Marshall South, and a description of the recent (September, 2004) flood of Borrego canyon that uprooted hundreds of Palm Tress (the bowls of which can still be seen some 20 feet above water level) and forever changed the canyon. This all makes for enjoyable reading and adds immensely to one's appreciation of the desert as you explore it. I cannot recommend this guide highly enough.

**.......2004-03-28
I found the way this book is organized terrible. It tells you more HOW to see things than WHAT to see. It's like wanting to know when a movie starts, and you check the paper and find directions on how to get to the theater, advice on the best place to park, you're told what food is really yummy at the snack counter, and you're pulling your hair out because you can't find when the movie starts!!!
The Anza-Borrego Desert Region.......2003-04-21
I liked the details and the historical background information very much.
What I missed are more color pictures on glossy paper like they are on the cover.
The Anza-Borrego Desert Region: A Guide to the State Park.......2002-11-29
I have been exploring the Anza-Borrego Desert region for 15 years. The Lindsay book is an invaluble resource if you truly want to become intimate with the area. The Lindsay's include a lot of the area history in an interesting, easy reading format. I just ordered the latest edition (I have two previous editions, which are completely dog eared and very well used) to make sure I am up to date. The State Park has a way of changing every few years and some back country trails and roads are no longer accessible. If you have only one book of the Anza-Borrego desert, this is it! The map that comes with it is excellent.
If you only get one book on Borrego, get this one!.......2002-06-17
If you only get one book on this area, get this one. I actually have an older copy I bought over ten years ago and it is still well used. It has a very detailed map (of which mine is tattered and well used) and the book is a great accompiament. I often use the book to determine how many miles I had walked or driven in for that day. It also gives you some advice as to camping and rules of the state park and surrounding public lands.
The Lindsays are well known in the area and Diana Lindsay is active in the Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association. She and Lowell are known the be two of the foremost authorities of information of that region.
A must have book..........2002-01-19
This is THE book to have if you're going to the Anza Borrego desert, thinking about going, or just wondering what the place is like. The folding map in the back of the book alone is worth the price of the entire book - it shows points of interest, camp sites, 4x4 trails, hiking trails, etc...
Most of the book itself is structured around the map, dividing it into seven regions. For each region it goes into detail about what you can see and do along the main route through the region, and then also goes into detail about many "sub-routes" that get you off the beaten path and into the desert (the mud caves are REALLY cool!).
My copy is already dog-eared and the map has a few tears, and I've only been to the desert twice since I've gotten the book!

Book Description
Jane Taylor is pregnant. Only, not in the conventional sense. It all began when Jane missed her period. Whether it was the clouds in the sky or a major case of pregnancy envy (this year's concern), Jane doesn't know. She only knows that she told her best male friend, and began to believe it. Until she got her period and realized she never was. Pregnant.
But that brief glimpse into the other world -- the world of smiling faces and courteous men -- was just too beautiful not to be a part of . . .and so Jane told a little white lie to her live-in boyfriend, and crossed the line. With the help of a pink Magic Marker she closed the gap that separated her from the positively perfect pregos.
Enter Jane's world, one of deception and success, Mr. Wrong and Mr. Right, Nutrition Police and tilted uteruses, baby showers and celebrity obstetricians. As Jane spins closer to her due date, she's got a lot of soul-searching to do -- not to mention an appointment with reality . . .
Customer Reviews:
with all due respect...........2007-09-25
This is one of the worst chick lit books that I've ever read. I mean, I expect "antics" in chick lit novels and I enjoy the genre....but *please*...the faking the pregnancy thing? So dumb. It's so obvious that Jane is going to mess up her work projects and "budding romance" - talk about the obvious. I had no sympathy for Jane and the entire plot was just...a waste of my time. The whole inventing of 'details' and 'faking' a growing stomach - er...this is entertaining or good reading? i don't think so. While I do think the plot is original - it isn't funny. In fact, I found it downright annoying.
I really expected to like this book..........2007-03-21
I'm an avid reader and usually really enjoy chick-lit as a fun, escapist read. I expected to really enjoy this book. I don't know if it is because I tried reading it while pregnant myself, but I just could not identify with this character. In fact, this is one of only two books I've ever just not been able to get through. I found the main character annoying, ridiculous and just plain shallow. I mean, if the author had found some really compelling reason for the main character to fake her pregnancy (which maybe she did, but not in the first 1/4 of the book), I might have liked her. But instead the main character just seemed shallow and I just couldn't root for her, or even continue reading about her. Too bad, the premise seemed like it could have made for a really fun and funny read.
What a Disappointment.......2007-01-25
Yet another one of those dime a dozen, 2nd rate chit lit books in which the heroine grates on my nerves through the very last page. I should've known better when the actual story begun on page 9 or the rather trivial quote that preceded the story.
It was hard to find any redeeming qualities in the novel. The story was implausible and unbearable- girl fakes pregnancy with dull boyfriend because "everyone else is having a baby" and she has a bad case of sibling rivalry. However, kudos to Jane for managing to keep up the charade without getting punched in the face for her stupidity, her blackmailing, or her lies. I guess it's supposed to be funny when someone fakes a pregnancy to force bf to propose so she can throw a wedding shower and a baby shower? The icing on the cake is when she steals a baby from a church steps and throws a party to showcase her arrival and come clean. Does someone have a bad case of the Me syndrome or what?
The cast of characters were as uninteresting as Jane herself- boring bf, "perfect" older sis, phony coworkers-friends,bland new love interest. It's no surprise she doesn't have any real friends except for the stereotypical gay bff name David (pronounced Duhveed) in which Jane learns to pronounce halfway through the novel. The author also gives a teaser for the sequel. I've read a few pages and it doesn't appear to get any better. Stealing a baby and trying to avoid child services is not funny or condonable.
If you read the book, just keep an open mind and try not to judge her too harshly (as I have done) and perhaps you will enjoy this little novel.
Kudos on Vertigo!!.......2007-01-13
I loved Vertigo!! It captures the reader right from the beginning. I never knew what was going to happen until the very last page. The characters were interesting.
I would have loved to like this.......2006-09-10
It all starts well for Jane Taylor. Period late, she sees a chance to snag her reluctant wet-rag boyfriend, Trevor. But then it all fall apart when she realizes the vacancy in her womb. Oops. But, heck, why not continue with the pregnancy? She'd get pregnant next month for real. A flawless plan.
Am I the only one who struggles with Janes motivations through out this book? Did the author do any research at all? This is not a believable book, not even by a stretch. Ponder this:
- Why, on this dear earth, would savvy Jane Taylor care to keep lackluster Trevor? Or get pregnant with him when he shows no interest in it whatsoever? Or marry him when he shows no interest in her whatsoever? So, either our author was grasping at motivational straws to make her story work, or Jane is the stupidest woman to have ever walked fictional chick-lit world.
- Why would David, her best friend (beautiful, gay, and loving of the wretched-- how ever so cliche) stand by her? And keep her secret? No one's friend is this nice.
- Fake a pregnancy in part to have people open doors and be nice to her? Oh come on!
- At the end of her 3rd month, Jane is looking for an out to her scheme, but would hate to come clean. Has our author ever heard of miscarriage? The fact that Jane did not take this very obvious out was the first big loss of credibility and enjoyability for me.
Jane is a sociopath with a chick-lit twist. That the author expected readers to connect with her in any way is astounding. So it speaks well to her ability that she's almost able to do that. There are moments were Jane is funny, charming even. But there's too much wrong with the plot for me not to have thought it a ultragalatic waste of time. The author frequently makes huge credibility errors (you cannot access a hospital nursery by giving the last name "Smith"- sorry- and a department store will not give you a fake preg suit- and if you steal a baby off a church stoop you will wind up in jail).
Worse of all, the author leaves us hanging. Jane has made a colossal mess of her life and she's in her ninth fake month. How is she going to dig out of this one? Her very professional and social existance hang in the balance. There's no way out of it for Jane. The author saw this and decided to take the easy road and just not resolve the issues. I suppose she realized she couldn't end the saga and make it sound at all realistic, so, hey, don't finish the story. The author should have known better to spin a fictional web she lacked the ability to control.
