Investing Intelligently..........2001-06-25
Can investing be easier than we think it is? Can we build a solid foundation on key investing concepts? Well, this is the claim in Investing Basics.
The information is organized into short, clear explanation so you can make sense of the crucial details. This is a step-by-step guide on how to create a financial plan.
You will learn what to do with your money, how to prepare yourself for wealth, differentiate between various bonds, know what various stocks are, understand risk, understand the role of "time" and find out what you can earn and what the cost is to invest.
For some people, investing is one of the most rewarding activities and for others it can be unnerving. I know many people who have lost money and many who are living off their investments and can stay home and play on the computer all day.
I enjoyed the quotes in little peach boxes, here is a good one:
"Asking what the risks are may not be as useful as asking what are the chances of success and failure." -pg. 35
Understanding how to invest your money is what this book is all about. I wish you success.
Best of the basic investing books.......2001-01-11
This is by far the clearest and most precise book of its type available. It's a must read for every experienced and novice investor. I give it to my potential clients at our first serious meeting. I am a financial services rep with investment experience beginning in 1972. It is a 30 minute read and covers all the basics. You would be surprised at the number of people with substancial portfolios; whom do not know the difference between a BOND and a STOCK. I'm serious!

Book Description
The Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in which some members of the European Union have joined, has prompted much discussion of monetary union. Most of this discussion has focused on the immediate issues, such as prospects for the Euro and the possibility of expanding the Euro-zone. This book stands back and considers the relevant theory or what lessons might be drawn from other unions that have been formed in the past as well as looking at EMU directly.

Complete essay on the breed standard.......2006-09-09
This book wasn't exactly what I expected. I had imagined more of a personal essay on the personality of Dominique's or memoirs of Dominique owners. That being said this is a very exacting history on the possible origins of the American Dominique breed of chicken and about the original standards of the Dominique. The real Dominique breed standards are not just a rose combed version of the Barred Plymouth Rock (which is the conclusion you might draw from the many too heavy & not bred to standard Dominique's seen at many poultry shows). Mark Fields really exhaustively researched the true Dominique type. In the book he quotes 100s if not more old poultry publications, experts, old-timers, advertisements and show results as to the original breed standard.
If you are thinking about breeding or showing Dominique's you should read this book. There are some really good photo's in the book as well. I'm happy this book was written, as it will help keep the Dominique chicken standard true. I'm proud that Mark Fields has thought enough of my favorite breed of chicken to write this kind of biography.
Review by the deceased poultry historian - John Norris.......2004-06-23
By one of those freaks of luck and fortune the Dominique fowl engaged the fancies of Carol & Roger Voter, David Hyman and Mark Fields. Their devotion and labor for this monograph of their favorite breed of poultry resulted in this splendid addition to American poultry literature. One need not be a Dominique fancier to read and learn from this book, the kind of book that each henwoman and henman should enjoy. Perhaps some reader may be inspired to do the same for the Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte or Rhode Island Red.
After many hours of search and research by the Voters and David Hyman; Mark Fields put it all together and composed this important breed monograph. The colored photos of Carol Voter on the dust wrapper just puts the frosting on the cake.
Dominiques were first mentioned as a breed of poultry in about 1820. With the advent of the first poultry show in the U.S. at Boston, Massachusetts in 1849 with four breeders exhibiting them, the breed became the first established American breed of poultry in the country. From then on they were mentioned frequently in agriculture magazines. The APA Standard of Excellence was first issued with the Dominique in 1874.
A bibliography issued in 1897 included a list of over two hundred poultry magazines issued in the U.S. From then on there were many articles, illustrations and advertisements about Dominiques available to those who searched. Included within this account are items relating to breeders, with their comments, illustrations and reports of production and type.
Mark Fields, born in Arkansas and now residing in Missouri is a shrewd historian and engaging writer. He has organized his sources from magazines, books, photos, letters, etc. into an engaging, historical document without any flourishes or tricks. Gleanings from all these items are used in historical order by subject such as Shows, Standard, Breeding, Authors, etc. into the presentation of a complete history of the breed and what is just as important, a great overview of our relation to the hen for the past 150 years.
A finely detailed table of contents is included, the only things not included are cooping and cooking.
Most pleasing to me are the many written comments by and about the breeders of Dominiques, from the 1840s to the 1970s. But my favorite is the one named A Dominique Pastoral by Cornelius Weygandt. Born in 1871, died about 1950 in Philadelphia where he lived all his life. Teacher and professor of English at the University Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1945. These things he loved; his family, the English language, music, Pennsylvania and his Dominiques and Red Dorkings. Not necessarily in that order! He is just one of many fanciers quoted in this book. From Dr. Bennett & Burnham to Elva Hemphill.

Book Description
Palaeohydrology is the study of changes in the waters of the Earth prior to continuous monitoring. Knowledge of these changes is important for the understanding of past and present environmental changes and of the form of the present-day environment. The evolution of the hydrological cycle in response to climatic change produces a chain of environmental and human consequences - factors that are becoming more relevant as climate change is predicted. Evidence of past environmental changes may be used to validate models with which to predict future change - thus the study of rates, mechanisms and processes of Late Quaternary hydrological changes is of critical importance. This volume is designed for all who are interested in the hydrological impacts of climatic change and the contribution that palaeohydrology can make to the study of these changes. It details recent achievements in this important field, and provides for prioritizing and guiding future studies.
Details recent advances in palaeohydrological research Case studies from a wide variety of climatic and physical regions Describes a wide variety of techniques Discusses the future for palaeohydrological research

Book Description
Palaeohydrological research is a comparatively recent development. However, research undertaken has already demonstrated a significant multidisciplinary impact and shown how palaeohydrology can provide an important contribution to the study of global change. Although a considerable amount of exciting palaeohydrological research has been applied to particular areas, there has not previously been a systematic approach to research into the palaeohydrology of the Earths surface. It was for this reason that a Commission was established by INQUA in 1991 on Global Continental Palaeohydrology. This volume provides the background to that exciting international research project and has been written to provide a basis for understanding the current state of research into the palaeohydrology of the land surface of the Earth. It therefore gives a summary of the work achieved to date and of the research investigations currently taking place, together with an indication of the way in which palaeohydrological research relates to other global research programmes.

Leo wins our hearts and gains self-confidence in his struggle to make his very own light.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing.......2006-11-05
You can't be without this book if you have 3-6 year old kids. My girls can't get enough of it. The message is one of encouragement, persistence, and self confidence. Eric Drachman is amazing at what he does. The CD character voices seal the deal. A must have along with all the others: Ellison the Elephant and It's Me. A Frog Thing is his newest release and is maybe more appropriate for slightly older kids i.e. 5 and up.
Sweet story.......2005-10-26
This is a wonderful story for any child who has ever felt left out. Leo is tiny and can't make his light shine. He is teased by the other lightning bugs. His mom tells him to keep trying and he'll succeed. After practicing over and over, he finally figures out how to light his light. The other bugs stop teasing him and he learns to laugh at himself, an important lesson for the younger child. I have a 6 year old and an 8 1/2 year old and they both love this story. The illustrations are wonderful.
My two nephews love this book & CD!.......2005-10-23
This lovely and lively story became an instant favorite of my two young nephews -- which is saying a lot considering that their bookshelf is well stocked! The CD that accompanies the book (making the price a real bargain) is no afterthought -- it is just as rich in detail and as well-produced as the book itself. And having a CD of the book comes in very handy when the boys are in the mood to hear the story AGAIN (and again and again and again...)
Wonderful book!.......2004-07-09
I have bought this book for my grandchildren and have enjoyed reading it with them. Beautiful illustrations and lots of fun for young children.
Fantastic!.......2003-10-27
This is simply a must have book for your preschoolers! My two boys, ages 3 and almost 5 LOVE this book. It has a great message - you have to practice to be good at things - and the CD is very well done. You cannot go wrong with this one.
Book Description
Shaoey and Dot help children conquer their fear of the dark.
When the lights go out one stormy night, Shaoey becomes frightened. Dot, her little ladybug friend, humorously explains that there are some things to be scared of-like if there's an elephant in the bunk bed above you or if you're with a bunch of monkeys and only have one banana. But, as Dot tells Shaoey, dark is just a place with the lights off, and God is in the dark just like everywhere else.
A Thunder and Lightning Bug Story, with adorable characters illustrated by Jim Chapman, was written from the experience of Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman and is sure to comfort any little one who is hesitant to turn out the lights.
Customer Reviews:
God sees even in the dark!.......2007-03-29
This book shows children they have no need to fear in the dark because God is everywhere. Shaoey is an adorable little Chinese girl, and Dot is her ladybug friend. One night the lights go out during a thunderstorm. Shaoey is very frightened. Dot reminds her there are worse things to fear -- like sharing your bunk bed with a whale or having to help an alligator brush his teeth. Dot tells a few fun things to do in the dark, too. She concludes with "But the one thing to always remember is that God's there, wherever you are. He's always watching and taking care of you, and His eyes even see in the dark!"
Written by Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, this is the third book in the Shaoey and Dot series. Steven Curtis Chapman is well-known throughout the Christian community for his music. He and his wife have six children, three of which have been adopted from China. The Shaoey and Dot series grew from their experiences as adoptive parents. All the books in the series are illustrated by Mary Beth's brother, Jim Chapman. He and his wife have also adopted from China. The illustrations are cute and imaginative. Done almost entirely in line drawings, they are sketchy, but quite detailed.
What I Like: This book is perfect for all kids who fear the dark, be they adopted or not! It reminds kids God is their Protector and He's always there. I love the line about God seeing even the dark. The book has helped my daughter not be frightened. She loves it!
An added bonus: the main character is obviously Asian. My sister was adopted from Korea, so I love this series. While this book makes no mention of adoption, the series together does. It makes adoption understandable for children and features a little girl who looks similar to my kids' cousins. Every child, whether touched by adoption or not, will benefit from understanding the concept for all believers are adopted by God. The details of this truth are key to the Christian faith.
What I Dislike: It's short! There are only four lines of poetry on every other page. I expected the book to be longer -- especially considering the age recommendation. Also, the colors were a little too pastel for my taste.
Overall Rating: Good.
Tanya -- Christian Children's Book Review
Teacher approved.......2006-07-18
My sister teaches little kids and loves to read this book to her class. It is excellent for little kids to read or listen to.
Two Thumbs Up!.......2006-07-12
You remember when you were about three or four years old, a fear of dark places started to set in. You wouldn't go to bathroom by yourself unless Mom or Dad came with you. You couldn't sleep unless your night-light was turned on. You didn't want to open up your closet fearing that the "Boogeyman" might take you away. Now, as a grown-up, you know a little better than to be scared for those reasons, but it's your children's turn now! Guess what though! This book written by Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman will help put your children to ease as they go through their stage of "fear-of-the-dark." "Shaoey and Dot: A Thunder And Lightning Bug Story" is a great book that teaches children not to be afraid when the lights aren't turned on. It lets them know that God is there with them too, just like He is when the lights are on. It will help your kids to be brave and courageous - even in the most scariest dark places!
GREAT! .......2006-06-05
This is an amazing book written by Mr. Chapman. Your kids will LOVE it!
Shoaey, Dot, and All Who Have Ears To Hear.......2006-06-02
Seven years ago, we fans watched as the Chapman family embarked upon this journey called adoption. It didn't take long for us to see that God was making miraculous renovations within the hearts of this family. And today, they continue to be amongst the most sincerely passionate adoption advocates in the world. The love within this faithful family is astounding to observe. Even the Chapman's three biological children continue to show genuine signs of spiritual and emotional growth as they work, alongside Steven and Mary Beth to raise the three newer little members of their forever family. It is impossible to listen to the stories of their personal adoption journey without confronting the inescapable truth, that all of us were orphaned and without a home until the love of God "took us in". God is writing a poignant and powerful story, not only for lonely children living in orphanages on the other side of the world, but for lonely people of all ages, everywhere, who are still lost and searching for the only home that is truly "forever".
This third installment of the Shaoey and Dot book series is a precious and creatively written story that everyone will not only enjoy, but be moved to share. Even if adoption is not a part of your personal journey, this is a book that will warm your heart and beckon you back to the kind of childlike faith that first lead you to accept the love of your Heavenly Father. That, in itself, makes it well worth the retail price. But I must warn you: Don't be surprised to find that those adorable little almond-shaped eyes (beautifully illustrated by Mary Beth's brother, Jim Chapman) open up some space in your heart that you never knew existed before. You AND your child will want to read this one over and over again for many years to come, and this will be the book series that you hand down through the generations. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Through it all he kept his faith and eventually found himself in a position of authority in Egypt . Joseph now holds power over his brothers and is faced with the choice of seeking revenge or forgiveness! Meanwhile, at the feet of the giants in the tiny bug-town of Buggelsville, Roderick the cockroach embarrasses Antoni the ant at the bugs' annual picnic. Using one of his new inventions, Antoni seeks his revenge by setting up a slimy surprise attack that doesn't quite unfold as he had planned. Your child will enjoy these entertaining stories and along the way will learn about the value of offering forgiveness. "Blessing in Disguise" is the first episode in the new comic book series Bugtime Adventures where you'll experience your favorite Sunday-school stories through the eyes of America's newest bug friends!
