Saudagaran's text (2nd edition) is an excellent overview of international accounting today. It's simply and logically organized, well-written, and sophisticated enough, without bombarding the reader with endless detail.

Oustanding material!.......2001-06-14

International Accounting by S. Saudagaran is an outstanding material on the vital aspects of International Accouting. While easy to read, it is also thought-provoking and idea-inspiring. While comprehensible, it is also comprehensive. These combinations are hard to find in Accounting texts and endear this book to its many users.

The world is fast becoming a global village and in this wake of globalization, it is pertinent to understand the inherent diversities in financial reporting and its implications on business. This was well handled in the text. The chapters on the diverse roles of Accounting in different countries, diversity in financial reporting, globabal harmonisation and its various dimensions, a thorough discussion on related accounting standards and the environemtal implications are extremely helpful

I will highly recommend this book to students of Accounting and any other individual who wants a thorough synopis of accounting in the global village.

I found this book to be far too shallow to be of any great use. While it does gives an overall picture of the situation, much of the contents lack depth that neither practitioner nor student would find it to be of much help when dealing with real life problems. Not recommended.

this book is useful to the elementary level cos the book has not much 'new' things to the students and/or practitioners. This book discusses current issues affecting the development of banking activities in the Latin American region, together with various perspectives on possible reform. It presents a comparative study of several Latin American banking systems and their supervisory bodies, and examines the institutional structures put in place following the reforms of the last decade. There is further discussion about the relationship that should exist between regulations and discretionary power when banks face difficulties. These various subjects are explored through national case studies including Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, Guatemala, Argentina, Costa Rica, and - by way of comparison - the United States and Canada. In addition, the book covers general discussion of the wider international context. There is comparative study of the structure of supervisory bodies in developed countries and the implications for developing countries, and of how recent international trends in banking supervision have been reflected in the experiences of Latin American countries. The authors examine the recent crises experienced by South East Asian financial systems and the ways in which they could impact Latin America. The book also investigates the integration of banking markets at an international level and the harmonisation of different regulatory frameworks. A study of the European Union experience provides a background for the discussion of harmonisation in the MERCOSUR countries. This book arose out of the Second High Level meeting on the reform of the financial systems in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Venezuela in October 1997 under the auspices of the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American Economic System (SELA). In bringing together the various viewpoints presented at this meeting, the book aims to initiate serious reflection on the reform of Latin American banking systems, and in doing so, to contribute to the achievement of safe and efficient banking markets in the region.

What role have experiments played, and should they play, in physics? How does one come to believe rationally in experimental results? The Neglect of Experiment attempts to provide answers to both of these questions. Professor Franklin’s approach combines the detailed study of four episodes in the history of twentieth century physics with an examination of some of the philosophical issues involved. The episodes are the discovery of parity nonconservation ( or the violation of mirror symmetry) in the 1950s; the nondiscovery of parity nonconservation in the 1930s, when the results of experiments indicated, at least in retrospect, the symmetry violation, but the significance of those results was not realized; the discovery and acceptance of CP ( combined parity-charge conjugations, paricle-antiparticle) symmetry; and Millikan’s oil-drop experiment. Franklin examines the various roles that experiment plays, including its role in deciding between competing theories, confirming theories, and calling fo new theories. The author argues that one can provide a philosophical justification for these roles. He contends that if experiment plays such important roles, then one must have good reason to believe in experimental results. He then deals with deveral problems concerning such reslults, including the epistemology of experiment, how one comes to believe rationally in experimental results, the question of the influence of theoretical presuppositions on results, and the problem of scientific fruad. This original and important contribution to the study of the philosophy of experimental science is an outgrowth of many years of research. Franklin brings to this work more than a decade of experience as an experimental high-energy physicist, along with his significant contributions to the history and philosophy of science.

I really enjoyed this book. I really liked the way the story was told through a series of email and instant messages. Its a great story for many of us out there who wonder what happened to their first loves.

I read this book quickly - in about 4 hours - and it was an easy read as it was all in the email/IM format - and I really enjoyed it.

One of my pet-peeves with some chick-lit is when a book tries to be something deep and meaningful when it's pretty obvious that it either doesn't fit the character, or it seems contrived.

This book, I'm happy to report, did not do that. Oh, it had some really deep moments, but they seemed so natural, and the book just flowed - there weren't any parts that seemed unnatural, or fabricated for the sake of the story. To me, it seemed honest. And I really loved that.

Others have rehashed the story, so I won't. But beyond the story, this book seemed authentic to me. The problems and issues were realistic, and the responses were natural. I got drawn into the story, and really cared about the characters.

So I'd definitely recommend it. Looking forward to reading all of Rocki St. Claire's books now!

Excellent story written as emails and IM's to each other. Amber hooks up with an old high school flame; Amber's best friend is having marital problems and hooks up with an ex-co-worker. It's laugh-out-loud funny in places (where they "dis" the woman who is running the agency where they work). The old high school flame writes country songs. Between all the emails and IM's racing through cyber-space, everyone wants to know "Is it adultery or e-dultery? Is it cheating?" This is a really good book written for today's world of computers, wireless, cell phones, etc.

the female friendship in this one makes this worth reading...the love story was ok, but i was more impressed that amber and stephanie were there for each other, no matter what...Rocki St. Claire lets you know where she stands on adultery....by having stephanie pursued by a married man, only to have her rebuff him at every turn, but not without being taken to the limit...she had marital issues, but she knew her marriage was worth saving...
