This book is for people who need to know things about wills, living wills, insurance benefits, powers of attorney, etc. This is not a book about how to budget groceries, merge checking accounts, or move in with somebody that you will probably not spend your life with. It is the nitty gritty financial stuff you need to know and plan on when you are in a lifelong partnership with another person. I found it very helpful and easy to use, and it offers practical advice for hammering out this often unpleasant business with your significant other.

Even though it took only a few hours to read (very thin book), "The Motley Fool's Guide to Couples and Cash: How to Handle Money with Your Honey" was a waste of time. I would've liked to see more substance, but I didn't find it. I understand that most couples in America don't discuss finances before or even after getting married, but all of the concepts in the book are simple and basic. I think it's good that the book encourages the reader to be honest with you and your spouse as far as finances are concerned, but it is such common sense, that you're better off reading more content rich books from David Bach (Smart Couples Finish Rich) or Susie Orman (9 Steps to Financial Freedom).

People never talk about money and when they do it is always with a ton of 1/2 truths. This book gave me the courage to get started and helped my husband and I have productive and painless money conversations. Now we know what is really going on with our lives, what we can afford to spend today and what we need to invest (and where) for tomorrow.
And the best thing is -- it wasn't all bad news. This book helped us realize that we are doing a lot of things the right way and that we shouldn't be scared to talk about our finances with each other. Thanks Motley Fool for helping us get started on the right foot after nearly 10 years of marriage.
what kind of fool am I?.......2003-05-27
I feel a fool to have been misled into purchasing this book. I'm planning on moving in with my boyfriend for cohabitation. I was hoping for info on how to share our life together financially. NO WHERE in the book could I find anything about signing rental agreements or mortgage papers, a pre-nup-type form for living together and sharing expenses, ways to save together, what to do if one is working and the other is attending school, etc. It should mention that different states have varying legal aspects of co-habitation or marriage (automatic 1/2 salary after split-up after one year living together as man and wife). This book only had one small paragraph on buying a home together, and is continuously referring you to go to their webpages. Now be aware, I haven't read the book: I have tried their table of contents, and slowly flipped thru the pages to see what was in the book.
A Painless Way to Get Your Financial House in Order.......2003-03-29
Who wants to read financial advice? I often don't, as it can be dreadfully boring. But not this book! It's breezy and funny and yet offers critically important information. It's also full of anecdotes and examples from real-life couples who are addressing the financial issues in their lives. The book clocks in at less than 150 pages, so it shouldn't intimidate anyone, and it includes an extensive section of handy worksheets at the end, too. Relationships should only grow stronger, when the folks involved aren't nervously ignoring their finances, worried about how they'll pay for their kids' educations and their own golden years. I'm glad I got this book.

The Strange Sound of Cthulhu starts with an introduction to Lovecraft's life. This provides good background for readers who are there for the musical aspect and unfamiliar with his writing. It is strait-forward, giving just the information needed to understand how he could still have an impact on music today, almost seventy years after his death.
The rest of the book is broken down into the musical genres he inspired. From psychedelic rock to country, groups little heard of all the way to big names, such as Black Sabbath and Metallica, have attributed some of their inspiration to Lovecraft.
Hill analyzes the songs--and even group names--that have roots in the literature of Lovecraft. The book compares lyrics with Lovecraft prose, and touches on music rumored to have Lovecraft ties. He gives details of each song, and in many cases, interviews with the artists behind the music. They discuss how their music ties in with Lovecraft, how they were introduced to his writing, and even their favorite Lovecraft tale.
Though the idea of seeing the music described in words may sound dull to some, Joshi was correct in the forward when he said, "Gary has that rarest of skills among music critics: the ability to describe a song, whether vocal or instrumental, in such a way that readers seem to hear it running through their heads."
Though Hill claims that the book is in no way exhaustive on the subject, it is as close to being exhaustive as it can get. It is designed to snare the readers that are there for the music to start reading Lovecraft, and the readers there for Lovecraft to look out for the music. I found myself getting out my old music to listen for what Hill describes.

Now instead of a fabulous rooftop apartment, fabulous clothes, and regular drinks with the girls, all she has is a nasty case of morning sickness; a future mother-in-law who's become obsessed with "Ross's Baby"; a slew of unsolicited name suggestions for him or her;and a custom designed wedding dress she'll soon be too fat to wear. Although she's trying to take some small comfort in the fact that one is never too bloated for a really cute purse, impending motherhood also has her reassessing more than her wardrobe-wondering if thirty-six more weeks is enough time for her to finish growing up.

Redundant, slow and flat. No substance!.......2007-05-18
I didn't enjoy this read really; it's like a bad phone conversation with someone you could just slap for being utterly boring and unbelievably repetitive.
For me this was like a mass of questions repeating themselves in a monotonous way.
The only surprise of the book is that if you think you will be reading of a woman who has to change to accommodate a new life in her live, it just won't be so since she looses the baby with a natural miscarriage and her life changes like everyone else's does but there is no baby here.
I found this book dull and the characters aside from Alexandra, Anna's best friend are unimaginative and terribly flat. I cannot recommend it since it is not even a light frothy read it's just a bad story

This book really had potential but then it quickly went down the perverbial hill. If the author meant for the reader not to like Anna than she did a fabulous job. Was it the author's intent for the reader to slowly begin to understand and feel for Anna? If she did, she did not accompolish her goal. The characters were all selfish and shallow even until the end. The only 2 characters that were semi likable were Anna's best friend and Jack. So what does it say about the book when you enjoy the secondary characters of the book and not the main one? Not much. My suggestion: if you must read this book, buy a used copy or find it at your local library. I'm glad I did and sell it back I will.

I don't normally give reviews but I look at this more as a warning than a book review. First, the typo's in this book are the least of this books problems. Anna is a 37 (you wouldn't think it) with a rich, sucessful, highly groomed fiance who finds out she is unexpectedly pregnant. She worries that Ross, who had previously expressed having no desire to have children will freak out and leave her (oh woe is me). He surprises her by being happy about her pregnancy. She has a meltdown of drama queen gone wild proportions and then seems to do a 180 and
want her baby with the ferociousness of a mother bear. Her friends are ridiculous sex and the city knock offs that are impossible to like, just like Anna, so I guess I have to give it that one star for at least being consistent with all of the author's character's having no redeeming likeable qualities. It seemed that the last quarter of the book was rushed and things were just thrown in so it could be rushed off to print or something. I felt like I should get something for having finished the book...like a grade, a pat on the back or at least some chocolate.

Like some of the other reviewers, I had a hard time getting into this story, it was too hard to follow and there was no development at all. Was it about an unplanned pregnancy, an unhappy relationship, her crazy in-laws, her friends, dysfunctional family? There was just too much going on and it made it all confusing. I didn't even notice the typos!!!

I am recently pregnant and so thought what a great book. Wrong!!! You never get to the baby part although the front of the nicely displays bottles. The author obviously knows nothing about all parnoias that pregnant women have today. She is eating pate somewhere in the book a big no-no for pregnant women. I just skimmed through the last half of the book and was so happy when it was finished. I agree with the other reviews. I just could not get into the main character, nor her friends. If you are pregnant, I would not read this book. I will only depress you.
