This book presents major accounting best practices including its related regulation with the IRS, GAAP and SEC, complete with some cases that make it easier to understand.

Pretty good book.......2006-03-09

Decent book. It hits the high spots on a lot of issues, but does not go into any great detail. I would be careful about relying on it too much because of the constantly changing accounting and tax laws.

Overall, it is a handy reference, and a good book to have on the shelf for accountants. It sure beats getting out the old college text book.

In this detailed study, tax policy analyst Jane Gravelle, brings together comprehensive estimates of effective tax rates on a wide variety of capital by type, industry, legal form, method of financing, and across time. These estimates are combined with a history and survey of issues regarding capital income taxation that are aimed especially at bringing the findings of economic theory and recent empirical research to nonspecialists and policymakers. Many of the topics treated have been the subject of policy debate and legislation over the last ten or fifteen years.

Should capital income be taxed at all? And, if capital income is to be taxed, what is the best way to do it? Agroforestry systems are often mentioned as a type of sustainable agriculture that is appropriate for the edapho-climatic conditions of Amazonia. However, long-term studies on the sustainability of this land use do not exist. This study evaluates the soil fertility in smallholder agroforestry systems in Western Amazonia, and compares the fertility of land under agroforestry with the fertility of neighboring land under pasture and native forest. Smallholdings located in Nova California, Rondonia, Brazil, were selected, with two different soil types. Soil pH, organic C, P, K, Ca, Mg and Al were determined. The soils of the agroforestry system maintained their improved chemical characteristics that originated in the burn, especially with respect to increased levels of exchangeable Ca and Mg and reduction of exchangeable Al, while maintaining stable levels of organic C, even when compared to adjacent primary forest soils. However, in the agroforestry system K and P fell to extremely low levels, below those considered to be critical for Amazonian soils. This reduction can reasonably be attributed to nutrient exports by consecutive harvests of cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum, Sterculiaceae) and pejibaye (Bactris gasipaes, Palmae) fruits. These nutrients can limit sustainable fruit yields in the agroforestry systems.

My Legendary Girlfriend by Mike Gayle is full of self-loathing, indecisiveness, obsession and irrationality.

This is why it's a good book.

Will is immensely unfulfilled. He works a last resort job as a teacher. He lives in a pit. He cannot get over his ex-girlfriend. Mike Gayle has brilliantly painted a picture of a person who, while surrounded by people filled with light, is stuck in his own head. It takes a stranger, Kate, to bring him out and help him see the happiness available to him.

Be aware. If you are looking for a novel that is full of action and a greatly dynamic main character, you will not find that here. Most of the action takes place in Will's home and head.

But if you are a person who has ever experienced heartbreak or has ever felt like you were thrown into the world without a compass, you will sympathize and cheer for his success.

While I only am a little over half way through this book, I'm finding myself hating Will. He's pathetic and boring and not at all a character that I can cheer for. This book has been a tedious read overall. I keep pushing through because I feel like it has to get better, yet so far it has not. I'm happy that I checked this out from the library, so that I can return it and not have it collect dust on MY shelves. The only reason why I'm even writing a review is that I'm so shocked about all the positive comments this book has received thus far. I looked on Amazon to see if my thoughts were shared by others; I'm surprised that they are not. I usually like this genre of fiction, but in terms of this book all it is is a bunch of whining and self-loathing.

I fell head over heels in love with Mike Gayle's sophomore release MR. COMMITMENT, so when I stumbled across MY LEGENDARY GIRLFRIEND - which happens to be his first book, I had to read it! I was not disappointed!

As usual Gayle takes his time when telling a story. There are many parts of the book that will have you screaming "hurry up!", but his well thought out characters and plot is what makes this book a hit!

Will is the ill at ease, sarcastic protagonist in this delightful novel. It's been three years and he still hasn't gotten over the day his ex-girlfriend Aggi dumped him - on his 23rd birthday -- without rhyme or reason.

There hasn't been a woman since who has come and knocked ol' Aggi down from that tremendously high pedestal Will has put her on. He obsesses over her day and night, and beats himself up trying to figure out what he could've done differently. He just cannot get her out of his system. That is until he gets a phone call from the girl who lived in his flat prior to him moving in. Could this stranger be the one who helps Will come to grips on the true meaning of love?

In just one weekend, he learns what usually takes a lifetime for some. Maybe there is someone out there that can measure up to his "legendary girlfriend".

horrible, horrible, horrible.......2005-12-29

One day I decided I needed to read every type of book out there. I usually ready fantasy novels. I wanted to know if I'd be interested in other books besides fantasy. I picked up a horror novel and it was slightly entertaining. Started to read a historical fiction novel but never finished. Then I picked up this up. I read the whole thing and decided never again to read a romance novel. This guy I forget his name now but he was so pathetic and weird. He wants to marry some girl from the telephone...stupid! But what pissed me off was the ending! DUMB!

Great first novel.............2005-12-18

Firstly I must commend Mr Gayle for writing a romantic novel from the male perpective. No doubt there must male writers of this genre in the market place, but they don't spring to mind.Having read some of the reviews for this book, I can understand that the main protanganist,Will, can get a little bit irksome. But, I didn't find that to be the case. I enjoyed the various characters that amble into Wills life. I also loved the ending that caught me by surprise. A great first novel.

My legendary book.......2004-04-23

Like it says on the front of the book, this is for those of you who have ever dumped, been dumped or prehaps lived in a dump (guess that counts us all in). This is a fantastic book that's full of laughs, a bit of lust, and bursting with love. Not only is it a hilarious read, but it's deep and meaningful as well, and you'll definitely be moved by it if you've ever loved, and if not, you'll still love it just because it reads so well.

Being a bestseller doesn't always mean that a book is actually a good book, it just means that a lot of people bought it (a lot of people bought .....'s biography and that was absolute crap), but this is just a work of art. Mike Gayle once again so accurately captures life, love and relationships at their best (even when they are at their worst)with this smasher which by far out did his previous book dinner for two.

That makes 'my legendary girlfriend' the ultimate read (because 'Dinner for two' is hard to beat). It's a side splitting, tear jerking rollercoaster ride of emotion that leaves you scarily aware of just how precious people and love are (because lets face it we take our loved ones for granted) and by the end you'll either be crying, full of warmth or just so emotionally aware you wont know what to do with yourself...or all of the above.

Finally, It's a must read so buy it now....oh but I'm sure you gathered that much already.
