Horrible textbook.......2007-05-09
I had to buy this textbook for my one and only auditing class. It is dry to the point of being unreadable. It would literally take me a week to finish reading one chapter because of the urge to fall asleep after every other sentence.
Horrible Textbook - AVOID IF POSSIBLE (deserves 0 stars).......2003-03-04
This text is excruciatingly boring - it's too wordy and on the whole, simply a weak product. Not a teaching tool by any measure. The homework is VERY POORLY tied back to the text. The text itself is dry, with zero visual aids (no real bolding or section headers). Case examples are too short to really prove a point, which is a shame considering the value of case analysis in a subject such as auditing. An online "help site" is available for students...just as bad as the text...the powerpoint slides are AWFUL, it makes me wonder who edited this author's material. I am almost led to believe that this author is trying to keep the competition out of the auditing industry by boring potentially fresh blood from entering the marketplace. Hopefully some other auditor/CPA out there has written a book that actually has some value.....IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT - REPEAT - DO NOT!! - BUY THIS BOOK. I hope I can save at least one person some money out there.

I used this book for an auditing class and I got a lot out of it. The book sets each chapter up in an understandable, and digestable way.The tables and charts are excellent summaries of the reading and it is entirely possible to just skip the reading and memorize those. Each chapter has thought-provoking questions at the end and activities that are helpful in analyzation. This book takes you from the first step in auditing to the way to fill out the audit report. I have fond feelings for this book.

This is the first book I have come across that leads the reader through the entire workout process, from the loan to the recovery as well as the organisational issues surrounding it, often neglected by pro's. Highly recommended for the people who are relatively new to the game, although there are also some useful tips for those of us who think we know it all!!!!

In this dictionary as many common names as possible in Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Pakistani, Philipino, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish are given alongside the botanical (scientific) names of mushrooms. This will be an aid to university students, research scholars and amateur mushroom hunters and growers, as they will easily be able to find the common names in any of the said languages from one publication.
A total of 628 edible species (distributed among various genera of fungi) whose gastronomic value ranges from excellent to poor (in the broadest sense) are covered. The edible species whose common names are not known or not available at present, have been omitted. Among the species included, some are controversial with regard to their edibility. In such cases a note of caution (or precautionary measures to be taken before eating) has been appended to the remarks.
There are some cases where the common names could not be presented adequately, for the following reasons: judgements of edibility or toxicity differ from expert to expert; comments on gastronomic qualities vary from country to country. Also, there is diversity with regard to the fungus flora in various countries, and common names may not be readily known. Synonyms for the species have been incorporated as far as possible. Further, mushroom growers will be able to choose cultivated and semi-cultivated species as well as wild mushrooms of potential importance. Some which have a tough consistency (of the fruit-body) and which are not so palatable, but are reported to be edible in the view of a few researchers, have been referred to. Apart from gastronomic qualities, these edible fungi also have some nutritive value, and at present there is widespread research into growing mushrooms as a potential source of vegetable proteins other than fats, vitamins and minerals. Such information has also been discussed briefly. Thus this multilingual dictionary will serve as a guide and reference book to university students, researchers, teachers, agricultural scientists, food technologists and amateurs alike.

This book is a result of many years of authors research and teaching on random vibration and control. It was used as lecture notes for a graduate course. It provides a systematic review of theory of probability, stochastic processes, and stochastic calculus. The feedback control is also reviewed in the book. Random vibration analyses of SDOF, MDOF and continuous structural systems are presented in a pedagogical order. The application of the random vibration theory to reliability and fatigue analysis is also discussed. Recent research results on fatigue analysis of non-Gaussian stress processes are also presented. Classical feedback control, active damping, covariance control, optimal control, sliding control of stochastic systems, feedback control of stochastic time-delayed systems, and probability density tracking control are studied. Many control results are new in the literature and included in this book for the first time. The book serves as a reference to the engineers who design and maintain structures subject to harsh random excitations including earthquakes, sea waves, wind gusts, and aerodynamic forces, and would like to reduce the damages of structural systems due to random excitations.

Gertie and her best friend, Bianca, are at a Star Trek Convention among Klingons, Andorians, Star Fleet officers and Vulcans at a Las Vegas hotel. Gertie extracts a promise from Bianca, a gorgeous blond beauty, that she will not sleep with any of the con's characters. Then Bianca gets the notion she can snare a guy without saying one word and Gertie takes her up on this bet. Looking around the restaurant, Bianca decides to pursue Mega Man sitting at the bar dressed in black.
Sparks fly with just a smile. She not only gets Mega Man's attention, he decides to pursue her. The man in black tells Bianca his name is James and leaves it at that. Colby James, on the other hand, can't believe his eyes. A girl he knew from his youth has just come on to him, and she's clueless as to his real identity. He has a moment's pause for his evasion, but James is his surname. So he hasn't really lied to her.
The couple go to his room. While they are in an impassioned clinch, Bianca's pager goes off. Gertie winds-up with food poisoning, so Bianca must take over Gertie's obligations at the convention. Dutifully, Bianca dons the Klingon costume, replete with forehead ridges and the dark skin tone added to her body. Bianca is thrown into the whirlwind of a Star Trek Convention and must finally admit that maybe she's a Trekkie after-all. And Mega Man James, who is he really? And when she finds out, will she make peace with him? Is Gertie really sick?
Kally Jo Surbeck's She Blinded Me With Science Fiction has many amusing twists and turns. Bianca is an extraordinary beauty with feelings of self-doubt. She blossoms as she comes to terms with herself. Colby James wants to correct the mistakes of his youth and has remade himself as an adult. The chemistry between Bianca and James sizzles as they come together and fall in love. As a veteran of many local and national Science Fiction and Star Trek conventions, this is a delightful tale. I chuckled from beginning to end at the hilarious antics of these characters. I eagerly await more "Intelligent life forms" to spring to life in Ms. Surbeck's next book!

Bianca and Gertie have been best friends, almost sisters, since childhood. In fact, since Gertie's mother took Bianca in as a child, they literally grew up together. For the past couple of years, the two young women have made a living by taking temporary jobs. Right now, the two are in Las Vegas, ready to work as extras at a Star Trek Convention - not only work, but fun too, since both girls are Star Trek fans.
On the night before the convention is to start, they are sitting in the hotel bar, scoping out the hot guys. Gertie is the shy, retiring type, and Bianca is the in-your-face gorgeous blonde. On the rebound from a broken relationship, Bianca asserts that she can pick up a guy without even saying a word and she happens to choose Colby James. Unfortunately, Bianca does not recognize Colby, who knows her from high school where he was the classic pencil-necked geek. He has some serious issues with Bianca - principally an unrequited case of lust left over from their school days. As if romantic difficulties weren't enough, Bianca is to find herself much more deeply involved in the Star Trek Convention than she cares to contemplate.
What is not to like about a book in which each chapter begins with a quotation from Star Trek? I thought the descriptions of the convention were very accurate, judging from the SF conventions I've attended. I had a really good laugh from the mental images of the con-goers that Ms. Surbeck evokes. It took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story, since a lot of the back story is revealed by the characters in those chapters, and was a bit confusing due to the order in which the information was given. Once I got on track, however, I kept reading because I wanted to find out what happened to the characters. There are four main characters, Bianca and Gertie, and Colby and his friend Miguel. The characters came across very superficially at the beginning of the novella, but they continue to develop and grow throughout the story. At the end, each one was an engaging and recognizable character in his or her own right. The several love scenes in the story are more sensual than erotic, and quite emotionally rewarding. This is a great book. Funny and so much more. I laughed out loud at the antics of Bianca and Gertie. We all know people just like the two of them or perhaps, we are just like them ourselves.
Colby James is a hero to die for. Sexy, charming.
I recommend this book highly. You won't be able to put it down.

Fast and free-wheeling the characters in this uniquely designed Chick Lit totally cracked me up. After having read Ms. Surbeck's FOR THE LOVE OF... I was expecting another romantic suspense, though to be fair both books involve a bit of intrigue and each book has humor, it's handled in vastly different amounts. There were several moments in this novel where I actually laughed aloud. The friendship between Gertie and Bianca had me shaking my head and nodding at the same time. The girls are life-long buddies...for any woman who has been best friends with another woman for that long knows that says it all right there. A truly endearing story with great chemistry between all the characters!
