Poorly Presented.......2006-04-25

This book is poorly written. There does not appear to be any presentational logic used. The same topic will be brushed upon on one page, dealt with in a more in depth fashion on another, and then brought up again later. Important points are often difficult to ascertain, obscured as they often are by more irrelevant text. ALso, different modes of presentation, such as list fashion displays of audit techniques, or other means such as various,"blue" sections, makes it difficult to study this text in a systematic manner. Then there are the review questions, which professors love to assign as weekly homework. THey are often made up of 10 part answers. A little thought about how students actually learn, rather than using a convenient presentational method based on how lazy tenured professors like to teach (or write) could make this book more useful. As it is, most of my knowledge of these topics will be gained through CPA exam reviews. SInce CPA reviews depend on the preferences of people who actually use them, I do not doubt they will be much better. PS: down with tenure.

Very difficult to follow for first-time auditing students.......2006-04-25

This book is very confusing for beginning auditing students. This is my first auditing course and I'm having a difficult time completing the homework because I don't understand what is being asked of me. If I had previous auditing experience it might make a little more sense, but it seems like the author is repeating a lot of stuff over and over in the first few chapters without really explaining what you're supposed to be doing. It all seems very abstract, which makes it difficult to apply what you're learning to the homework. If you're looking for an indtroductory book to auditing, I would not recommend this one.

5e might be different from past editions-reviews from others.......2005-05-07

This review is based on the 5th edition. I have used this book for ongoing reference in doing Sarbanes Oxley compliance projects. I have found it to be very solid, and includes coverage that is very much attuned to the environment we are under today in terms of complying with SOX. Highly recommended.

A Bargain at Thrice the Price.......1999-04-06

As a connoiseur of auditing texts, I found Rittenberg and Schweiger's work to be pure genius. The authors' use of real-world examples and well-placed and helpful exhibits, interspersed with the occasional comfortable aside, make this a work not to be missed. Well done, Dr. Rittenberg. Well done, Dr. Schweiger. Well done, indeed.

Poor Excuse for a Book.......1999-03-24

Auditing: Concepts for a Changing Environment, is not only poorly written but it lacks in-depth, real life situations which makes up the auditing profession. Not only are the chapter questions mediocre at best, but after the first five chapters everything else is a review. I would advice no one to buy this book, not even the biggest accounting nerds.

A Great Baseball Novel...And More!.......2003-12-20

Most baseball fans with an interest in the game's history will remember that for the first 70 years of the twentieth century, the nation's capitol was represented by two American League clubs known as the Washington Senators. (Their moments of glory were few. The famous cry was: "Washington. First in War, First in Peace and Last in the American League.) But what about the third Senators franchise, born in 1989? You don't remember them? That's because, sadly, they only existed in the imagination of Jane Leavy and between the covers of this book.

"Squeeze Play" is a wild, bawdy, funny, true-to-life account of life in a big league clubhouse and in the sports department of a daily newspaper. Leavy, a former sportswriter and more recently the biographer of Sandy Koufax, draws on her own experiences, a passionate love of the game and a wild imagination to create one of the most entertaining baseball novels I've ever read.

I suppose I should add a cautionary note: "Squeeze Play" is not for the prudish. Sex and crude behavior are often on display (just as they are in the real world.) The book is told in the form of a diary of the Senators' first season, as chronicled by Leavy's alter-ego, A.B. Berkowitz. Berkowitz, who grew up worshipping Yankee Joey Proud (a fictional re-creation of Mickey Mantle) is about to find out if her love of the game will withstand close daily exposure to it...in particular, as practiced by this group of has-beens and never-weres. The team starts out the season challenging the record for most losses to begin a campaign and comes to the wire shadowing the 1962 Mets for the title of worst team of the modern era.

But this book is about a lot more than wins and losses on the field. Leavy has a lot to say about life, love, friendship, moral values and all the things that really matter....and she does it with an abundance of wit, style and humor.--William C. Hall

This book was awesome, simply awesome. As a female baseball fan, it was great to get a glimpse of these fictionalized baseball players through a fellow woman's perspective. It's one of those books that I couldn't put down, didn't want to finish, but had to finish because it was so GOOD. It has a little bit of everything - love, sex, sarcasm, slapstick, raunch, baseball, hilarity, thoughtfulness...

Whatever you do, you've gotta read this book! It was absolutely pure pleasure, so much fun that when I finished I wanted to start it all over again! You'll thoroughly enjoy every one of the characters and revel in getting to know them better as you read through the book. Each one is a true gem, and their actions and interactions will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages!! And if you like mystery.... Well, I'll bet you'll never guess how this one is going to come out! It's a real winner, and Kaiser just keeps getting better and better! Do yourself a favor and DON'T MISS THIS BOOK!!!

A well plotted crime drama with a wide variety of characters and a very likeable protagonist named Nick Sasso. The writing style will keep you enthralled. With all the suspense and emotional depth you'll be sure to be satisfied.

Former San Francisco cop Nick Sasso is in self-exile across the continent after apparently screwing up an investigation. Nick opened up a Manhattan restaurant that has just taken off. Currently he is watching a Yankee-Red Sox game at the Stadium when his girlfriend Bree Davis calls the restaurant to see how things are going after a tremendous review in the paper. Though the restaurant is doing great, Nick learns he got a call from his estranged father's accountant that something is wrong with the books of the family business now run by brother Joe, who rumors fly is near bankruptcy.

Nick returns to the Bay only to find Joe murdered. Though he knows he should allow the police led by his ex-partner to investigate, Nick refuses to sit on the sidelines. He makes inquiries that upset a lot more people than just the SFPD as he begins to uncover something more sinister and conspiratorial than just some falling out over debts.

SQUEEZE PLAY is a great suspense thriller that works on several levels due a strong cast. Nick is the focus of the tale with his ill-accepted investigation, but the secondary characters turn the action-packed plot into a game-winning walk off home run as they provide depth to the story line and the lead protagonist. However, the support crew is not just benchwarmers as they seem so real; they are the fielders that enable R.J. Kaiser to pitch a near perfect game that rivals that of Don Larson.
