A very thorough primer for business strategy analysis .......2007-06-07

The breadth of the book's approach is quite impressive, especially as it is contained in only 193 pp with notes etc. I am grateful for the writers defining out so much detail in their step-by-step approach. It really gives context to what is involved in the value drivers of the businenss. The market is screaming for tools to handle the areas of intangible value and leadership decision making still and while SBfV talks about it in theory they still are a voice in the wilderness saying we need some innovation in the near future. There is nothing in this book that a business owner cannot take immedialtely and put into practice. A good read; simple in delivery, very comprehensive in scope and well worth the time if you want to understand all the options there are to look at for determining value in the eneterprise. Well done.

This is a marvellous book on the valuation methodology for enabling companies to enhance and maximise shareholder value through the use of strategic benchmarking. The book is well written in simple/plain English that should make it easy to follow and understand by any reader.

The book presents critical insights into how companies can enhance shareholder value. It arms managers with tools that enable them to make decisions that facilitate growth and create value. This is achieved through clear and practical methodologies and tips that can be employed to maximise company value. Case studies reinforce the message and help the reader to understand how to practically implement the concepts highlighted in the book.

It is refreshing to read a book that is written like a conversation and not like a textbook, yet one that contains the appropriate financial rigors.

If you want to catch up with modern banking and look at it from an analyst's view, this is your book. I enjoyed it very much and use it as a reference often

A good book for a first insight in banks' financial analysis.......2004-09-24

I bought this book 3 years ago, when I started by PhD. At that time I knew nothing about banks' financial statements analysis and the book consequently become as it says a "Guide", in my early steps in the topic. I still go back from time to time to re-read some issues. Thus, I would recommend the book to those interesting in getting a first insight into banks' financial analysis. They will find the first 14 chapters quite useful. Chapters 15-27 examine other issues, such as the environment, distressed banks in Asia, the rating industry among others. How useful the later can be highly depends on what the reader is looking for.

BEWARE.......2004-06-25

The content of the Bank Credit Analysis Handbook is actually quite good. However, it is glaringly apparent that NO ONE proofread the manuscript. There are errors on almost every other page: missing punctuation (incuding periods), the same phrase back-to-back, incorrect formulas, formulas described one way, and then shown in a way nowhere close to the description. I have an MBA, and have read my share of textbooks and manuals, and I have NEVER come across one as sloppily edited as this one.

The content of the book is good, but at $105 one would think someone would have proofread the manuscript before it was published.

A Creditable Analysis.......2001-10-29

Mr. Golin has written an easily readable and comprehensive guide to an obscure subject. He assumes only a general knowledge of finance and takes the user step-by-step through the analysis of a bank's financial statements, an approach that probably makes this book as useful to equity analysts as it should be to credit analysts of financial institutions. He has a rare perspective, that of an american lawyer (from Harvard Law School) who has grappled with investment analysis of corporations in south east Asia. As a result, many of the examples in the long section on distressed banks are drawn from the Asian economic crisis. Nevertheless the scope of the work is global. He deals with the continuing development of world-wide bank regulation and the role and function of rating agencies. Last, but not least, the appendices contain useful definitions and a good bibliography. For analysts of finanical institutions his book should be a 'strong buy'.

Description:
In the upper Ordovician glaciogenic rocks of West Gondwana, many soft-sediment deformation structures are attributed to glaciotectonic processes. However, little is known about the subglacial and ice-marginal processes associated with this ice sheet. A systematic description and interpretation of these soft-sediment deformation structures is supplemented by a comparison with Late Quaternary and Modern glacial settings to provide qualitative constraints on the character of ancient subglacial thermal regimes. Soft-sediment striations were formed by discontinuous, shear-induced deformation beneath an ice sheet that oscillated between warm and cold-based thermal regimes. Beneath warm-based ice, coupling across the ice-bed interface was poor with sliding and loading occurring at this surface. Loading of soft, waterlogged sediments allowed the development of fluted surfaces, which are also associated with the formation of truncated folded zones. During times of cold thermal regimes, coupling across the ice-bed interface was enhanced by freezing, which caused changes in the position of the freezing front. These discontinuous changes, coupled with sustained subglacial shearing, resulted in the development of stacked, soft-sediment striated surfaces. In areas where the subglacial substrate had an irregular topography, complex shear zones formed that comprised stacked duplex systems interlayered with highly strained units preserving pervasive, folded lineations. At the ice front, large glaciotectonic deformation structures (comparable with push moraines) developed during sustained periods of (re)advance that created composite thrust and fold systems. Deformation was transmitted for up to 1 km from the ice front and reduced in intensity with distance. Other deformation structures include dome-like folds that consist of central anticlines (30 to 70 m in width) with tight rim synclines that formed by the load-induced, diapiric intrusion of muds. An ice-sheet surging mechanism is inferred for the development of composite thrust and fold systems and the coeval sediment diapirs. These surges potentially caused the widespread reorganisation of a glacial load resulting in the pro- to subglacial extrusion of soft sediments.

fun lighthearted mystery .......2006-07-05

Local author and store clerk Tressa Jayne Turner is concerned with all the things going wrong at her family's ice cream booth at the Iowa State Fair. First her cousin who was to dish out ice cream has gone missing. Second the food concession has come under assault from a horde of invading cockroaches and angry patrons ready to switch loyalty to the soft competitor.

Tressa knows someone is sabotaging her Uncle Frank's concession stand, but who and why is not readily available nor why her cousin seems to have vanished. Determined as ever, Tressa assumes the ice cream sales business has turned cutthroat so she begins sleuthing looking critically at her Uncle's rivals. Meanwhile her nemesis "Ranger Rick Townsend seems more interested this time with her sister than interfering (her thoughts) than helping (his thoughts) as they did in her recent escapade (see CALAMITY JANE). Of course state trooper P.D. Dawkins tells Tressa to not make any inquiries, but what's a girl to do when she finds the cop a hunk, her cousin, and the business melting away; simple investigate Calamity Jane style.

This is a fun lighthearted mystery starring an amiable heroine who finds ways to dive head first into trouble and make problems that much worse as she adds chaos to a chaotic situation. The story line is fast-paced as Tressa comes to the rescue of Uncle Frank, who pleads with his calamitous niece to not get involved as he ahs enough problems. The relationship with Ranger Rick takes another spin as the twenty-three year old Jayne seems to have a new love interest and so does he. Fans of humorous romps will enjoy CALAMITY JANE RIDES AGAIN.
