Customer Reviews:
Great overview of cost accounting for manufacturing.......2004-05-14
This little book is a wonderful review of all the things you need to consider if you are doing accounting in a manufacturing concern. The ideas are applicable as well for service organizations but the examples are geared toward accounting for manufactured products. The authors talk about when or why you would use a certain type of costing method rather than just explain how it's done. For example, they explain the reason for using Just In Time costing and the benefits over traditional cost accounting and describe what performance measures you would use with each system. I'm only halfway through my libray copy but have decided to buy my own to keep for reference.
More Practical than Theory!.......2000-04-12
This is a very well - organized introduction to cost accounting. There are some very useful chapters on cost behavior and cost estimation, as well as cost-volume-profit and break even analysis. The theory is very clear, however, the quantitative examples are basic. Not a complete study guide for the MBA student, but a great compendium to supplement theory and basic understanding. Plus, if you own several volumes from the Barron's Business Library you get the bonus of having them look cool on the bookshelf!

Book Description
In the evolving environment of global financial markets, governments, corporations, individual investors, and their associated financial institutions must grapple with a host of thorny issues that affect emerging economies with particular force, as we saw during the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s. Among the issues analyzed by some of the top financial scholars from around the world are covered arbitrage possibilities in the absense of hedging instruments; the effect of capital controls on capital flows; the potential impact of currency unification, as well as the possibilities for pegging currency in the context of floating foreign exchange regimes; regulatory reforms; and political risk analysis.

Book Description
Focuses upon revised Articles 3 and 4 and new Article 4A in the 1990 Official Text of the Uniform Commercial Code. In addition, the Expedited Funds Availability Act, the Federal Reserve Regulation CC, and other related laws are treated where relevant in the revised text. Finally, cases were selected with an eye to the transition from the old to the revised UCC and problems that require the understanding and application of the new law.
Book Description
This monograph sets forth a unified approach and principles for modeling hydrologic processes distributed in space and time using geographic information systems (GIS). The focus of this Second Edition is on the principles of how to implement a distributed model using geospatial data to simulate hydrologic processes. Once we embark on fully distributed representations of hydrologic processes, conservation laws form the basis for modeling, and spatial data management becomes necessary. A physics-based approach involves the laws that govern the complexities of all the paths that water travels, from precipitation falling over a river basin to the flow in the river.
Worldwide geospatial data has become readily available in GIS format. A modeling approach that can utilize this data for hydrology offers many possibilities. GIS data formats, spatial interpolation, and resolution have important effects on hydrologic simulation of the major hydrologic components of a watershed. Examples are provided that illustrate how to represent a watershed with spatially distributed data along with the many pitfalls inherent in such an undertaking. Since the First Edition, software development and applications have created a richer set of examples, and a deeper understanding of how to perform distributed hydrologic analysis and prediction. This Second Edition is oriented towards a commercially available distributed model called Vflo™. The basic edition of this model, with a 30 day license, is included on the enclosed CD-ROM.
Audience: This volume will be valuable for researchers, faculty, upper division undergraduate and graduate students, hydrologists, physical geographers, hydrometeorologists, and practitioners in civil, agricultural, and water resources engineering.
Customer Reviews:
Masterfully addresses current state of hydrologic modeling.......2004-10-24
This book is a must read for those interested in understanding the recent changes in the field of hydrologic modeling - changes that will shape the future of the field. Distributed modeling is addressed from the ground up, clearly showing the science behind the tools. It is an essential part of a hydrologic modeler's library and an excellent student's text. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Book Description
Cancer Morbidity and mortality result from invasive and metastatic spread. Currently, no therapies are aimed at the underlying mechanisms that enable this progression due to only nascent recognition of the distinct biology which occurs only during tumor dissemination. Recent advances have highlighted the central role of cell motility during the dynamic and transient process of tumor invasion and metastasis. This book includes state-of-the-art updates by international leaders in these studies. Chapters first present the novel model systems that enable new investigations and insights. Chapters then describe in depth the key processes and molecules that may be therapeutically targeted. Finally, the role of cell motility and its signals is explored in a number of key tumor types. This compilation should be useful to researchers in basic and translational oncology as well as those developing novel agents to prevent tumor invasion and metastasis.

Book Description
"Fans of Child's irrepressible, impulsive picture-book heroine — as well as kids who have not yet had the pleasure of making her acquaintance — will devour her first chapter-book adventure." —PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
It's not easy to concentrate at school when mysterious things are happening all around you. In fact, Clarice Bean is starting to feel just like her favorite heroine: Ruby Redfort, schoolgirl detective. Clarice and her utterly best friend, Betty Moody, are planning to ace their book project about Ruby and win the class prize, until Betty disappears into thin air, and horrible teacher Mrs. Wilberton teams Clarice up with the naughtiest boy in school. Will her new partner ruin everything? Will Betty ever come back? And what on earth happened to the silver trophy everyone's hoping to win? Lauren Child brings her trademark wacky wit and eccentric visual energy to a full-length, fastpaced Clarice Bean episode that will charm even the most capricious reader.
Customer Reviews:
Utterly Me Clarice Bean from a kids ponit of veiw........2006-12-15
Utterly Me Clarice Bean
Utterly me Clarice Bean is by Lauren Child. Clarice and her best friend Betty are assigned a book report about a book they read that was educational. They could not figure out what book they would use for there book report. They are obsessed with Ruby Redford, a book about an 11 year old under cover spy. I Think Lauren Child is trying to say that sometimes you have to look hard for something that's right in front of you. The main characters in the book are Clarice, Betty and her teacher {I don't remember her name}.
My favorite part in the book is when they write a letter to Patricia F Maplin Stacey the auther of Ruby Redford. The beginning is just introducing her friends and family. The book is very funny. I think if you're the kind of person who likes to laugh and likes something different and your like 8+ in age you will love this book.

Utterly Good for Young Girls.......2006-12-06
Clarice Bean loves hanging out with her friend, Betty Moody, and reading Ruby Redfort books. Like her favorite junior detective Ruby, Clarice keeps an eye out for unusual happenings and anything else that might capture her wildly wandering attention.
When the class is assigned to do a book project, Clarice expects to work with Betty. Nothing seems to go right: Betty goes away for some mysterious reason; their teacher doesn't like Clarice's book choice; and worst of all, Clarice must partner with Karl Wrenbury for the project.
Will Betty ever come back? Will Karl ruin the project? Will nothing turn out properly? It is so utterly stressful!
Young girls are sure to enjoy Clarice's wandering style. Swirling sentences, amusing doodles, and utterly packed with adverbs, this chapter book is entertaining. Adults may find the excessive use of adverbs and certain writing affectations to be annoying, but grade schoolers aren't likely to notice or care.
Because this reviewer is both an adult and a writer, it is difficult to award this book more than "4-Balloons," but it is more important to keep in mind the intended audience. Girls are sure to identify with and love Clarice Bean. Lauren Child's "Clarice Bean" books make reading fun, which is utterly important.

hi this book was great! it is about this girl named clarice bean a she tries to solve a mystery along with her friend. read the book to find out what happens! do they find the cup? or not?
A Kid's Review- Clarice books are awesome!.......2006-02-12
This story is about a young girl named Clarice Bean, who reads Ruby Redfort mystery books. When the school's reading contest cup is stolen, Clarice decides to be like the book character, Ruby, and solve the mystery. Read the mystery book about who steals the cup, and see what happens!
I loved this book because it was funny, the letters were printed in cool ways, and I think even some teenagers would like to read it!
UTTERLY Awesome, Clarice Bean!.......2006-02-06
As a creative writing teacher and mother of three utterly adventurous and book loving children, ages 6 through 10, I thoroughly, UTTERLY loved reading this book aloud to my children. I was concerned that my son, age 6 and complete Star Wars/Superhero addict, would not enjoy a story about a plain, ordinary girl, but he surprised me and became completely engrossed in the story. We enjoyed every moment of the book from beginning to end, and decided we must get all the books in the series. Most enjoyable for me was the fact that the narrative, cleverly and appropriately written from the perspective of Clarice, was so accurate and delightful - totally funny, outrageous and completely reminiscent of young girlhood angst. My children were so delighted and fell completely in love with Clarice. I HIGHLY recommend Clarice Bean to any book lover. It's a much wittier version of Ramona Quimby. I give it a very enthusiastic THUMBS UP!!! Hurrah, Ms. Lauren Child. My family and I have become your devoted fans.
