I rate this volume highly. This is due to its analytical depth as well as empirical sweep both of which are very original. The book will be of vast use to many, including economists and policymakers.

This is a translation of a 12th-century Sanskrit legal text, with the original text. The Dayabhaga was one of the most important texts in the history of Indian law. The text, fairly late and inspiring little attention, is important because the British elevated it to such prominence in their new colony in the early 19th century. It was known as the authority on inheritance and significant aspects of family law for the eastern Indian region. The case law and scholarship that surround this text have shaped Indian personal law right up to the present day.

Sir Macfarlane Burnet -- Nobel laureate, member of Order of Merit, Australia's most honored citizen at the time of his death -- was a giant of twentieth-century science. Burnet: A Life, published to coincide with the centenary of his birth, tells the story of Burnets complex genius: his early
life in Taralgon; his pioneering discoveries in the fields of virology and immunology; his original theorizing on the body immune system, which led to his Nobel prize for medicine (shared with Sir Peter Medawar) in 1960.
In his retirement, Burnet emerged as the elder statesman of Australian science. He wrote no fewer than sixteen books, mainly concerned with the relationship between science and society, and with his sometimes radical speculations about genetics, cancer, and aging. On the public stage, he was
equally outspoken on a range of sensitive medical and social issues, from conservation, uranium mining, and cigarette smoking to the population explosion and euthanasia.
Burnet: A Life was first published in 1991 as The Seeds of Time . The author, Christopher Sexton, a Melbourne writer and barrister, conducted many interviews with Burnet before his death in 1985. The resulting biography, with a new chapter marking the centenary, illuminates the life and work of
one of Australia's greatest heroes and most controversial thinkers.

MRST 2002 is the 24th in an ongoing series of annual meetings that brings together an international group of researchers clustered around the Universities of Montreal/McGill, Rochester, Syracuse, and Toronto working on various aspects of theoretical high energy physics. This year features discussions on a wider than usual scope of interrelated topics, with invited talks ranging from the latest developments in cosmic microwave background radiation research and the solar neutrino puzzle to the Bekenstein bound in quantum gravity and the AdS/CFT conjecture in string theory. The main purpose is to encourage increased interaction between traditionally separate but clearly overlapping research sub-disciplines. Socialism beats fascism.......2006-06-14

I'm using this Michael Moore book to practice my Spanish, reading this version alongside the English version. This exercise not only improves my Spanish, but also my awareness of how corrupt the Bush regime is. Sadly, Moore is only scratching the surface of a very ugly beast. To receive more of an institutional analysis of how corporatism threatens humanity, I'd highly recommned the documentary, "The Corporation," which features comments from Milton Friedman, several CEOs, Michael Moore, and Noam Chomsky.

Este libro tiene una cosa a su favor: la traduccion es precisa. Aparte de esto, el libro carece de valor politico -y literario- por varias razones. Desde su perspectiva socialista, el odio que tiene por Bush y el conservadorismo en general, enturbia y obstaculiza su mensaje. Tambien este señor, trata de justificar sus datos, cuya mayoria son quejas con tintes de victima, usando fuentes cuestionables y parciales a su perspectiva politica; algunas son mentiras descaradas. Nadie sabe, pero este senor se queja de Haliburton, pero Moore ha ganado mas dinero que ellos aprovechandose de Irak: esto es un hecho. Si no me creen averiguen cuanto ha ganado de la venta de sus libros y comparalo con lo que ha ganado Haliburton. La narracion es deficiente y el vocabulario pobre. Aunque yo nunca he apoyado a Bush, a Moore no se puede tomar con seriedad. El libro es una sola queja y no mantiene su argumento con cohesividad. A ver si este señor se atreve a donar todas sus ganancias, a manera de filàntropo para tomar en serio su libro. Si tanto odia a su pais, que se largue! Lo bueno es que nunca se ha lanzado para un puesto politico. Es una pena que este en la portada con la gorra de UCLA, porque esta dañando la reputacion de aquella institucion de gran prestigio. Nunca he estado a favor de quemar ningun libro, y este no es excepcion. Pero sera muy ùtil en el baño.
