Book Description
Ideal for a survey course, this text is written to meet the needs of non-accountants who need to gain a basic understanding of how to use accounting information and make financial decisions. The reader is introduced to basic concepts such as: what accounting information is, what it means, and how it is used. Students are exposed to financial statements and learn what they do and do not communicate. This text covers financial and managerial accounting concepts. A complete annual report is included in an appendix.
Customer Reviews:
Seems intentionally confusing.......2007-03-25
I'm just starting a class that requires this book. I don't have a financial background. The book is confusing. It seems like the chapters outline basic principles. However, when it comes to doing the homework problems, the text asks things that were poorly covered and/or obscure.
I wish I didn't have to take this class and could get my money back.
Trish.......2006-02-27
I gave this book one star because there are no negative numbers available. The other reviews here are all true! This is a horrible textbook that jumps from subject to subject quickly, gives simplistic examples in the chapter and then throws complex homework problems with new components not explained in the chapter--oh and don't let me forget to mention that the terminology changes from chapter to homework as well! A friend with two masters (business and engineering) became so frustrated trying to help with a problem that he threw his hands up. The terminology kept throwing him off.
If you are supposed to buy this text I suggest you either show these to college administration ahead of time, or take another class. This is so bad I won't even sell mine back. I'm throwing it in my grill to burn.
This text is terrible.......2005-11-16
This book lacks effective structure, or comprehensible structure at least, and the writing is both tedious and meandering. Many of the examples are minimally useful and some are only vaguely associated to the concepts they are meant to support. Useless! This book wasted the time I had taken from my family to study accounting. Why would anyone select this text for a graduate level class???
What a waste of money.......2005-10-17
This textbook is fullllllll of inaccuracies. Additionally, the author gets some sort of sick thrill from giving really simple, insufficient examples in the chapters, and then giving over-the-top difficult questions in the homework. This author also loves to ramble and make this already tedious subject just as incomprehensible as he can possibly make it. My husband is a CFO and could NOT believe how horrible this book is. It's that bad. Students should demand that a different textbook be required.
Very confusing text.......2005-02-09
I found this textbook to be very confusing. It doesn't spend enough time elaborating on each topic before it moves on to the next.
Book Description
In today's competitive marketplace, customer value-a combination of product and service benefits at a fair price that creates value in the minds of customers-is the key variable for business success. Using several comprehensive and highly integrated frameworks, Peter Duchessi provides strategies for defining customer value and for developing the critical business, personnel, quality, and information systems that are responsible for delivering customer value. Whereas other books focus on just one of these critical areas, Crafting Customer Value provides a comprehensive account of what a company must do and how to go about doing it in each area. The author's numerous vignettes and cases illustrate how successful companies set clear business direction, formulate a customer value strategy, design and implement new business processes, develop a loyal cadre of employees, institute effective quality programs, and deploy state-of-the-art information systems. This book is a valuable guide for managers who are interested in transforming their companies into customer value-added enterprises that can earn high profits.

Book Description
In June of 1972, the Democratic National Party headquarters in Washington, D.C., was the site of one of the most famous burglaries in U.S. history. The abortive Watergate break-in and subsequent cover-up is reexamined in this book from the unique perspective of the Supreme Court judges, who grappled with its political and legal ramifications. Howard Ball presents the litigation in the U.S. vs. Nixon case from the inside out, analyzing the constitutional issues that faced the court and the way in which the justices worked to resolve conflicts, overcome obstacles, and arrive at an institutional opinion. In recounting the tragedy of Watergate from the viewpoint of the judges, the book makes use of a number of important original sources, including interviews and letters from the justices. Perhaps most important in telling this story, though, are the conference notes and docket sheets of the Court members, especially those of Justices William J. Brennan, Jr., and William O. Douglas. To set the Watergate tapes litigation against the proper background, Ball also examines the role of the federal judiciary in the political system, the crucial concept of judicial review, and the Supreme Court's processes and personnel at the time of the litigation. A selected bibliography and comprehensive index conclude the work. As a unique chronicle of the Watergate scandal, this book will be a valuable resource for courses in American history, legal studies, and the Supreme Court, as well as a significant addition to academic, legal, and public libraries.

Book Description
Maggie Owen lives in London and has given up her job to stay home with her infant and toddler; her husband (well, they aren't exactly married) is a busy advertising executive. Trying to resign herself to a life filled with playground mums, soiled clothing, and a partner who comes home in time to kiss the kids goodnight when he's not away on some business trip, she suddenly runs into Claire, a former classmate whose confidence, looks, and sex life throw Maggie's own confidence, looks, and sex life-and the chaos her life has become-for a loop.
Having It and Eating It is a hip, in-the-know social commentary on contemporary life, and at the same time a hilarious, entertaining read. For any woman who has small children, any woman who had small children and is relieved to now have somewhat larger ones, or anyone who has ever contemplated marriage and children, it is the book to read, reread, and then pass along.

Pleasntly Surprised.......2005-04-19
bought this book from Barnes and Noble because I wanted to get my order over $25.00 to get free shipping (LOL) and it was a baragin book. Well I am so glad I bought this!
The story is about Maggie who is a stay at home mom raising two young boys, whom she had with her live in boyfriend Jake. The two never married because Jake is just not into the whole marrige thing... this urks Maggie a bit...
Out one day with the children Maggie runs into Claire, and old friend from school, and upon dragging Jake to a party at Claire's house she begins to envy Claire's life as an unattached woman... Maggie seems torn between wishing Jake would just marry her already and wishing she was a carefree single. While at the party she also learns that the man living downstairs from Claire happens to be the attractive australian gardner who's van she happened to hit a few days or so before...
Soon Maggie begins to suspect that Jake and Claire are having an affair... which leads Maggie to do some things she would most likely never do...
I loved this book. I loved the irony involved and I feel the author penned the characters in a manner which makes them so loveable and sympathetic to them, especially Maggie... I suggest this book to anyone who loves the Chick Lit genre of books. You won't be let down.

Page-turning fun and thought-provoking brain food.......2003-08-15
Although I figured out very early what would happen regarding one key plot point, I nevertheless recommend this book as a good weekend read. The characters are believable, as are the situations and conversations. There are suspenseful moments, and funny ones, and of course, touching ones as well. Very enjoyable, on the whole.
It's of the genre pouring out of England in the past few years -- I think Helen Fielding started the trend with the Bridget Jones books, although the books about Adrian Mole are in the same vein, and predate Fielding by awhile -- humor diarists writing winningly about everyday situations. Jane Green does a nice job, too, and the best recent offering is _I Don't Know How She Does It_. If you read that one, this book will seem a little flat, but still well worth reading.
Stale cake.......2003-06-28
This isn't a bad book, but it isn't a very good one either. Yes, I have kids so I can concede that her observations about chaotic childcare are accurate. Accurate, yes, but not original, thought provoking or more to the point, funny. Because this writer seems to have taken a stab at comic writing. My advice: Don't do it, you're simply not funny enough. Sabine Durrant is certainly no Marian Keyes.
I kept reading this thinking it would pick up. It didn''t. The plot didn't really go anywhere and the ending was anticlimactic. I guess I mainly read it because I'm a UK girl living in the US and like reading about England when I feel homesick. But this book was like a long forgotten eclair you find at the bottom of your fridge, looks tasty but ends up tastingt kind of stale.
What a fun sassy read!.......2003-05-23
This is a fun book! It's a guaranteed read to take your mind off of your troubles! This is my first Sabine Durrant book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't read it to pick at the moral issues ~~ I read it to have a break from nonstop packing and moving woes. And it's a perfect escape!
Maggie gave up her career to stay home to raise her two little boys ~~ her boys with her partner, Jake. One day she runs into her schoolhood chum and realized that her own life isn't as together as Claire's. Then to top it off, she suspects Jake is having an affair with Claire ~~ and off this book goes. With hilarious tales of two little boys running amuck in the house and with other people, Maggie begins a journey into self-awareness. And this is a fun hilarious read!
At first Maggie puts herself down for being a stay-at-home mom ~~ engrossed with recipes and childcare and local gossip. Then as the story progresses, she begins to realize that she is the envy of the women in her life. And she begins to grow up!
This is a must-read for all women ~~ regardless of their marital status or children-status. I think moms with very young children can relate to Maggie's dilemmas with the babies ~~ but everyone can enjoy the stories. Durrant writes with a flair and humor ~~ you can't help but fall in love with the characters and keep on turning the pages. This is the perfect summer read!

Customer Reviews:
Very Wholesome.......2004-05-13
This book is surprisingly not at all model-y. She presents motherhood in a very wholesome and natural way. Clearly promotes breastfeeding without being pushy. I found the eating and exercising tips realistic, do-able and very effective. The recipes are great if you are a relaxed cook (no exact measurements). The emotional parts are real and sincere, everyone can relate to them. Written in a relaxed girlfriend-to-girlfriend style, this book is a breath of fresh air. Frankly, it's more useful than some of the "What to Expect"-theme books.
Great Book that Tells The Truth !.......2003-12-19
I am the mother of a 10 month old. I wish that I had this book months ago. My experience was similar to Venedela's. It's an honest book that does not sugar coat the challenges of motherhood. Being a mother is the best job in the world. It is not always easy. I appreciate Vendela's honesty!
Intelligent guide on how to raise a family.......2002-07-28
Earlier this month, I had seen Vendela interviewed on television promoting her new book. It has been nearly a decade since as a young girl I had seen her in the advertisements for Elizabeth Arden that my aunt had said I resembled, perhaps of the Scandinavian background. That I have kept the colour couture bag my grandmother had given me as a gift, and she asked the salelady if she could have an extra bag as she adored the pink and purple colors designed on it, and the saleslady obliged. My grandmother had passed away, and I kept both bags together, and recently I used my bag as a gift bag for my younger cousin.
As I am not a frequent television watcher, and was fortunate when I did I saw her new book at just the perfect moment for a gift, as an older cousin of mine is having a baby at any moment now. Vendela writes with uncanny candor and warmth. Proves that one can't always live up to other people expectations of what they think you should look like. You'd drive yourself crazy. You have to feel good abut yourself. And, prove that you can be thin and fit after you have a baby.
The desk top style book offers clear advice, and recipes for everyday. It is perfect to give as a gift. And, in accompaniment with another book on your shelf entitled: "A Model For Better Future," written by another successful model, Kim Alexis on how to live a wonderful life in an certain world. Each of these books has wings!
Easy tips and quick results.......2002-05-21
The book is first of all very nicely done. The tips and exercises are simple and quick to get started with. I appreciate the fact that she allows us to see some real pictures of her being not so beautiful. I wish there were more meals on the go in the nutrition area. As long as women realize that she has a natural beauty that many of us do not have, then you will appreciate where she is coming from a little more. It's almost impossible to do all of the things we need to do for and with our bodies and especially with little kids underfoot. This is the perfect book to combine with the new revision of Mommy-CEO, 2001, by family expert, Jodie Lynn. The two only adds to the whole family routine of taking care of mommy. Mommy-CEO shows us how to get the kids motivated and Model Mommy shows us how and what to do to take care of ourselves. Both authors stress mommy time and creating space for moms.
Customer Reviews:
Good book to read if are a parent.......1999-09-11
I really enjoyed this book because I am a parent. It tells us that you don't have to be an expert to know to raise kids. I enjoyed reading the anecdotes.
