Great purchase. The authors do a superb job of describing topics in basic terms then escalate to the nitty gritty number crunching behind the concepts. I recommend for anyone needing a complete guide to FI securities.

this is the de facto desk reference for fi securities. it is thorough and well presented. if you are working with fi, you probably have it, if not, you should. also highly recommend the fixed income mathematics text as well.

i give 4.5 stars.

many reviewers comment that this book lacks depth, but hey, it just tries to give a general overview on a variety of fixed income securities, that's what it is, and this book does reasonably well on this purpose. it never means to contain everything on every fixed income securities.

the only thing i am concerned is that the page numbers listed on the index sometimes do not match.

Head First into Traffic.......2000-05-29

Cole offers an informed criticism of modern economic and developmental theory. His evaluation of supply versus demand economics should ring true with most informed readers. In addition, the "abstract labor theory of value" is presented in a concise and clear manner. Unfortunately the work is overshadowed by Cole's intense desire to interpret crises and development in a Marxist fashion. His evaluation of the East Asian financial crises leaves much to be desired. In contrast, his writing pertaining to Cuba are beyond reproach, in this work as in past works. This work is best enjoyed by those with an open mind or by those without a religious following to more mainstream economic theory.

Benefits and costs of an integrated management system coordinated at the community level to reduce rodent damage to lowland irrigated rice were measured in West Java, Indonesia, from 1999 to 2002. Four villages, each of 120ha (70-80 families per village), were involved in the study, two being allocated as treatments and two as controls following a randomised block design. The emphasis was on integrated rodent management with the overall aim of reducing the need for toxic chemicals in rice fields. Rodent damage to rice can be measured at several stages of crop growth. In West Java, monocultures of lowland irrigated rice, cumulative damage to rice during the dry season was 54% at the primordial stage, 32% at the booting stage, but only 16% at the ripening stage. If measured at the ripening stage, the measured value ought to be multiplied by approximately 6.5 to obtain cumulative damage to the rice crop or by 4.2 for an estimate of yield loss. Rice yield can be estimated by farmers directly or by quadrat samples, the former being on average 20% lower than the actual yield. Integrated rodent management increased rice yields more when rats were common, in both dry and wet season crops. For every 1% increase in tiller damage by rats, there was a decrease of 58kg/ha in rice yield. Wet season crops benefited more from a trap-barrier system (TBS) than dry season crops at the same rat abundance index. The benefit-to-cost ratio for all seasons and years averaged 25:1 but varied considerably from year to year between a low of -2:1 to a high of 63:1. The economic benefit of integrated rodent management was equal to or better than that achieved by conventional management based on synthetic rodenticides.

Xenopus biologists have few resources available to them that illustrate the internal anatomy of developing embryos. Peter Hausen and Metta Riebesell published a stunning first attempt at producing such a resource in 1991, now out-of-print. This work focused largely on early stages of oogenesis and development.
The new volume by Bernardini et al. is the latest attempt to produce a detailed anatomic description of early Xenopus development. It contains a blend of scanning electron micrographs depicting external morphology and plastic sections- internal. The quality of the SEMs is very high, and that of the plastic sections reasonable (not to the standard of Hausen and Riebesell) despite some fixation and sectioning artifacts.
Periods of development documented include gametogenesis, fertilization, cleavage, gastrulation, neurulation and one- two- three- and five day old embryos. Approximately six to eight SEMs and sections are provided per stage.

A Great Fast read.......2006-10-29

I've read one other Allison Rushby novel but this book really cements my status as a fan of hers. "Friday Night Cocktails" is a funny, light, interesting chick-lit novel. This was a really fast for me-I read the novel in a day and a half. Gemma is a woman who starts a list about all the men who have done her and her friends wrong on her website based on the list that her and her friend, Sarah and their roomates started in college. The list is of all the men that have done them wrong over the years. Gemma and Sarah think that other women will relate and soon the site is getting thousands of hits and tons of entries. Soon Gemma realizes she needs a PA to do her bidding once she's earning quite a bit of money from the advertisers on the site, so she hires Chris, a male, to help her. Soon Gemma finds that Chris is helping her more than she realizes.
There is only a couple heavier things in the novel but it's certainly not "War and Peace" in tone and writing. But it's a pleasure to read and I found myself hooked. I'm now an Allison Rushby fan for sure and I can't wait to read her other works.

It has taken me months to read this book. I would read a chapter one night & let it sit on my nightstand for two months before I felt the need to pick it up again. I really could not relate to the characters. There were no exciting events in the book. The main character Gemma begins a website called allmenarebastards.com & the website takes off, creating her a new career. She deals with a struggle of an ended relationship & the ups & downs of several friendships. It has a happy ending, but I must warn you: there was no exciting climax, along with no plot. It was not the most boring book I've read, but not very interesting. I don't recommend.

Unusual way to deal with a breakup.......2005-03-27

I came across this book while browsing at Border's. The back cover really grabbed my attention and I thought this is a funny way to cope with men. The book starts out typical, but quickly turns into self-reflection for the main characters. It's not your typical chick-lit book. I also liked the author's writing style. It was as though she was having a conversation with you. I definitely will read more from her.

Highly Satisfying Chick Lit Read.......2004-12-18

When I had heard what this book was supposed to be about, I was intrigued. I quickly raced down to the bookstore and grabbed a copy. What better premise can you imagine - two women decide one night (after having a few drinks) to put a list of "bastards" on the internet, only to have the list become extremely popular and get out of hand? I knew it would be good. And I was right - it was really good.

Gemma and Sarah have been friends forever. Along with their friendship, a list has survived over the years - a list they fondly call "the bastard list." This list is made up of a the names of guys that had earned the name in one way or another. One night after a few too many cocktails, they decide to put the list up on the internet. Gemma not only puts up the list, but gets the word out to the virtual world about it. Before they know it, people all over the world are viewing the list, adding their own names and stories. Gemma discovers that money could be made from it, and she decides to put the list on a new website and begin advertising. The new name she comes up with is www.allmenarebastards.com. She hires an assistant (a quiet, serious type of guy) and the revenues begin rolling in.

Gemma's friends Sarah and Michael begin expressing their concern over the website. After all, the website was supposed to be based on a list of men who had acted like bastards, not state that all men were bastards, right? Gemma seems to be especially bitter about men lately, it seems. But she has pretty good reason to, or so she thinks.

I absolutely adored "Friday Night Cocktails". It was outrageously fun to read, well-written and irresistable. I loved Gemma, the main character. Although she was flawed in many ways, somehow I still found myself rooting for her. Even when she went off on her "All men are bastards!" tangent. She was a woman to be reckoned with, and I really enjoy that in a main character. As for the plot, it moved along breathlessly and was well executed. And the novel was very funny!

Overall, this book was a highly satisfying and fun read.
