Easy, Accessible and Fun (yes, fun!) to Read.......2005-04-27
Where Did the Money Go? is a must read for anyone who runs a business. Ellen Rohr has debunked the myth that one has to have a degree in accounting to understand financial reporting. That is good news for many people! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever been intimidated by the mysterious world of debits and credits.
Small Business Lifesaver.......2004-08-04
"Where Did The Money Go?" should be required reading for anyone going into business for themselves! Ellen simplifies one of the most daunting tasks of small business...understanding financials! "Where Did The Money Go?" and it's companion book "How Much Should I Charge?" are must reads for small business owners. Without a clear understanding of YOUR cost of doing business, you'll never know how much to charge. This book will walk you step by step along the path towards really understanding the numbers. That path leads to what all businesses seek...being profitable! Paul Swan Swan Plumbing & Heating
I hated the numbers but I knew I needed to know..this helped.......1999-10-31
As a business owner of multiple companies, I knew I needed to understand the numbers. But, I have always struggled with the terms and just what the numbers really meant. This book helped me read the numbers and understand the terms in a way that allowed me to deal with the "real world" financial data.
This is a little piece of Heaven in an Accounting Book!.......1999-08-12
An extrodinary job of educating the basic business owner about accounting. It spells out the basics in an interesting format that keeps you turning the pages. You will feel exillerated to finally have a solid understanding of the simple terms that play such a huge "turn key" role in making money. If you want to make money, then you've got to have this one. It won't just sit on your shelf, it's an instant "plug and play" tool!

Book Description
The U.S. Federal Government awarded more than $123 billion in technology-related prime contract obligations in fiscal year 2005. The total contractual value of prime information technology awards decreased by more than 20 percent in comparison to the $155 billion in IT-related, prime contract obligations in FY2004. The decrease in overall FY2005 open-market contractual value is not representative of actual federal contractual obligations. With more departments utilizing existing contract vehicles, less open-market contracts are originating. This report examines the total contract value of over 1,147 program awards, spanning technology-related product and service categories identified by INPUT through its Federal Contract Opportunities database

Book Description
Globalization and the possibility of bioterrorist acts have highlighted the pressing need for the development of theoretical and practical mathematical frameworks that may be useful in our systemic efforts to anticipate, prevent, and respond to acts of destabilization. Bioterrorism: Mathematical Modeling Applications in Homeland Security collects the detailed contributions of selected groups of experts from the fields of biostatistics, control theory, epidemiology, and mathematical biology who have engaged in the development of frameworks, models, and mathematical methods needed to address some of the pressing challenges posed by acts of terror. The ten chapters of this volume touch on a large range of issues in the subfields of biosurveillance, agroterrorism, bioterror response logistics, deliberate release of biological agents, impact assessment, and the spread of fanatic behaviors.

Book Description
Volume 100 which is the final volume of the LNBM series serves to commemorate the achievements in two decades of this influential collection of books in mathematical biology. The contributions, by the leading mathematical biologists, survey the state of the art in the subject, and offer speculative, philosophical and critical analyses of the key issues confronting the field. The papers address fundamental issues in cell and molecular biology, organismal biology, evolutionary biology, population ecology, community and ecosystem ecology, and applied biology, plus the explicit and implicit mathematical challenges. Cross-cutting issues involve the problem of variation among units in nonlinear systems, and the related problems of the interactions among phenomena across scales of space, time and organizational complexity.

Book Description
The formation of patterns in developing biological systems involves the spatio-temporal coordination of growth, cell-cell signalling, tissue movement, gene expression and cell differentiation. The interactions of these complex processes are generally nonlinear, and this mathematical modelling and analysis are needed to provide the framework in which to compute the outcome of different hypothesis on modes of interaction and to make experimentally testable predictions. This collection contains papers exploring several aspects of the hierarchy of processes occurring during pattern formation. A number of papers address the modelling of cell movement and deformation, with application to pattern formation within a collection of cells in response to external signalling cues. The results are considered in the context of pattern generation in Dictyostelium discoideum and bacterial colonies. A number of models at the macroscopic level explore the possible mechanisms underlying spatio-temporal pattern generation in early development, focussing on primitive streak, somitogenesis, vertebrate limb development and pigmentation patterning. The latter two applications consider in detail the effects of growth on patterning. The potential of models to generate more complex patterns are considered and models involving different modes of cell-cell signalling are investigated. Pattern selection is analyzed in the context of chemical Turing patterns, which serve as a paradigm for morphogenesis and a model for vegetation patterns is presented.

Book Description
Spatiotemporal models are emerging as a very important topic in several disciplines, including neurobiology and artificial neural networks. Many hard problems exist in this area. Examples include understanding the capabilities of nonlinear dynamical systems on a lattice and of networks of spiking neurons (both natural and artificial), training such systems, implementing them in hardware, understanding biological signals like the EEG, etc. Besides the state-of-the-art in the area of spatiotemporal models, the book also covers the neurobiological, and the artificial systems communities.

Book Description
The book has evolved through the author's 25 years of advising and writing on geodetic methods in which the aspect of learning by doing is stressed, including analyses of quality. Consequently, it covers practical aspects of geometrical geodesy and particulars of fundamental constants, horizontal and vertical datums, geoids, bi-axial ellipsoids and reference systems, units of frequencies and time, conformal projections, similarity transformations and spatial developments in electronic and acoustic positioning frames. The impact of information, communication and parallel computer technology with an ability to store and retrieve huge amounts of data is discussed up to the point where the compilation of relevant data is completely automated using comprehensive analyses on a worldwide distribution network.
All Fortran computer subroutines described in the book can also be found on the enclosed CD-ROM, including compiled ready-to-run Fortran programs. A computer of modest capacity can cope with the algorithms.

Book Description
The ICAM'97 symposium on "Recent Developments in Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction of Thin Film Structures" was presented at the combined 1997 International Conference on Applied Materials/European Materials Research Society Spring meeting (ICAM'97/E-MRS'97) held in Strasbourg (France) from 16-20 June 1997. . More than 60 participants representing 10 countries met to discuss the recent developments related to the study of crystalline structure of thin films: first stages of growth, morphology, strains and their relaxation. The aim of this symposium was to discuss the applications of both electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction in thin film studies.
X-ray diffraction is a non-destructive method giving very accurate information in reciprocal space for the determination of crystalline data. Many of the contributions were concerned with following such growth processes such as epitaxy of metals and semiconducting materials, measuring the average strain and the structure and the morphology of the films.
The electron microscopy investigations allow the study of microstructures and crystalline defects. The main handicap is the necessity for the destruction of the specimens. Electron microscopy is useful for studying the randomly distributed failures in periodicity of crystalline structures.

Book Description
This volume contains the majority of papers presented at the symposium 'Thin Films Epitaxial Growth and Nanostructures', which was held as Symposium D of the E-MRS Spring Meeting 1998 in Strasbourg on June 16th-19th 1998.
Nanometer structures attract high scientific and technological attention by tailoring material properties artificially. Epitaxial growth is a very promising way to produce low-dimensional structures (two-, one-, zero-dimensional) with nanometer dimensions for a variety of materials. This symposium focussed on semiconducting films, on a basic understanding of interface formation and on formation of nanostructures and on microelectronic applications. It provided a forum for discussions of common aspects among researchers working on compound semiconductors and silicon based heterostructures.
Topics treated in this symposium included microscopic description and observation of growth, influence of strain on surface morphology and defect structure, growth on patterned substrates, self assembly of nanostructures, electronic and optoelectronic devices requiring nanometer layers and atomically sharp interfaces, new device concepts and circuit architectures, alternative methods and systems.

Book Description
In Plum Sauce, Richard Usborne-long regarded as the world's leading authority on P. G. Wodehouse-brings together the best of his much admired commentary on the great man's words to form the perfect companion to the nearly one hundred novels of "the most consistently funny writer the English language has yet produced" (The Times).
Plum Sauce also contains snippets of Wodehouse's most outrageously hilarious prose, organized in categories from Animals ("Beach's bullfinch continued to chirp reflectively to itself, like a man trying to remember a tune in his bath") to menservants ("Jeeves lugged my purple socks out of the drawer as if he were a vegetarian fishing a caterpillar out of a salad"). Usborne introduces in depth all the beloved major characters-Jeeves and Wooster, Psmith, Ukridge, Uncle Fred, Lord Emsworth, and the Blandings circle-and sketches the rest of the Wodehouse cast-from Gussie Fink-Nottle to the chorus of Aunts and Drones. Lavishly illustrated with original dust jacket artwork and sketches from the Strand Magazine, Plum Sauce is the ultimate source for both aficionados and novices just beginning to "scratch the old lemon."
Customer Reviews:
A handy reference.......2005-08-10
Not the book I thought it would be but that was my fault for not reading the promotional stuff properly.
A handy reference guide to all Wodehouse's work and all his larger than life characters, although I found Usborne's own "self opinionated" critiques a little off putting... Regardless of that the fact this is a complete dossier of P.G.s works makes it handy for finding those rare ones and completing my own library of Plum's work.
The Wonderful World of Wodehouse.......2004-12-09
Anyone who has stumbled on the numerous Wodehouse collections edited by Richard Usborne knows that their topics range widely, from golf to crime, "dumb chums" like Joffrey the cat to Drones Club regulars, the odd aunt and the odder uncle. Who better then to provide the ultimate guide to everything penned by the prolific PGW? Furthermore, this book is a necessity for the beginning novice just cracking the spine of a first Jeeves adventure as well as the veteran with a merry twinkle, the sure sign of a long addiction to Wodehouse's "laughing gas." If laughter is the best medicine, Dr. Usborne's prescription herein is guaranteed to extend, if not the days in your life, at least the life in your days. But how can such a delightful pleasure be passed off as essential for all and sundry desiring to delve into the wonderful world of Wodehouse?
Even the casual reader in pursuit of PGW will soon discover twists and turns in the path that would make the quills stand up on the fretful porpentine. Where to start with over one hundred books? Which of the British books were published under different titles in America and vice versa? If you did want to undertake the Herculean task of reading all the Wodehouse in chronological order, where would you begin? Happily, Richard Usborne, playing Jeeves to PG's Wooster, lays all that out in a delightful and enticing manner. So put your trust in a higher power, settle down to the eggs and b. and enjoy the wonderful world of Wodehouse.
A Loving Look at Great Comic Writing.......2004-09-22
The average person will never read as many full-length books in a lifetime as P.G. Wodehouse wrote. The bulk of the books are a little hard to find in the average library or bookstore. Where should one begin?
Although I have read over a dozen Wodehouse works, I find myself wanting to know what to read next. As someone who is addicted to Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, I naturally look for those first . . . but what are all of those books anyway? With Plum Sauce, I now have a synopsis of each Wodehouse book so I can pick out which titles have Bertie and Jeeves in them.
But wait, there's more. Some of my favorite characters from the Jeeves books also show up in books without Bertie and Jeeves. Now I know which books are those. So I can go after those next.
But, just a minute, P.G. Wodehouse also wrote other comic stories about other characters who sound just as interesting as Bertie and Jeeves. I'll have to read those, too.
Golly, I just realized from this book that he also wrote golf stories. Can you imagine how funny those must be? Those are on the list now.
So just these overviews are of immense value to any Wodehouse fan.
Hold your horses, though, there's more. Mr. Usborne has also written fine essays about the backgrounds, appeal and development of Mr. Wodehouse's main characters. From these fine comments, you can deepen your appreciation of the stories. I especially liked the reference to how Bertie Wooster is the archetype of the perpetual fifteen year old, done as a nit-wit among half-wits. Mr. Wodehouse's sense of fun has obviously rubbed off on Mr. Usborne, and he makes his essays as light and funny as possible.
Stop the presses! The book is also filled with dozens of the wittiest quotes from the various books that will tickle your fancy on any gloomy day (something that never occurs in Mr. Wodehouse's perpetually sunny England).
Now listen here, me fine reader, Mr. Usborne also provides biographical details about Mr. Wodehouse that add understanding to your reading. I was especially glad that Mr. Usborne addressed Mr. Wodehouse's controversial radio broadcasts in Germany during the Nazi era.
If you want to have lots of smiles, giggle and guffaws in your life, YOU NEED THIS BOOK!!!!
Keep up the old feudal spirit.
ESSENTIAL.......2004-04-01
WOW!! This book is essential if you plan to read anything ever written by P.G. Wodehouse.
I had read the Inimitable Jeeves and seen season #1 of Jeeves and Wooster on DVD. I was hooked and wanted more.
Using the traditional Amazon search engines, you get pummeled with the books presented in an incoherent fashion, and as is so often the case, a kind fan will lay out the order of the books for you. BUT NOT THIS TIME.
You delve deeper and you see there are several series -- PSmith, Drones, Blandings Castle, ever reliable Jeeves and Bertie and others.
And then I discovered this book. And you go on to learn Wodehouse wrote well over 90 books -- and this book lays them all out for you in chronological order.
I especially loved the original cover art included for many of the books.
A LITTLE HINT -- THE BOOK INTIMATES THAT SOME OF WODEHOUSE'S EARLY BOOKS WERE A MIXED BAG -- SO IT STEERED ME TOWARDS NEXT READING "MIKE" WHICH INTRODUCES YOU TO PSMITH.
Mike is an unbelievable book and my plan is to cover the books written chronologically from there. I've shelved Jeeves and Bertie for awhile but they're coming up soon enough.
I can't thank the guy who wrote this book enough --- he really did a great service to fans and potential fans of Wodehouse.
