GOOD INITIAL TEXTBOOK ON BANK MANAGEMENT.......2006-02-06

This book is a good example of what a textbook should be like. It explains the topic of bank management with competence, pointing out all the major issues without going too deep (and boring the beginner). After reading the first few chapters, the interested reader feels knowledgeable enough to intelligently discuss the topic.

The book is well segmented, with an initial explanation of bank financial statements and the main risks and opportunities associated with bank management. These chapters empower the beginner with confidence of understanding exactly how a bank makes money. Bank management seems like a very complex topic, something outside the reach of normal people; it is not true, anyone with a decent volume of training could perform the basic management activities of a bank.

I highly recommend this book for anyone working at a bank in order to understand the business, its risks and the main drivers of performance. If you are considering bank entrepreneurship, this is a must. There is a chapter that demonstrates the initial processes of bank management in a very simple way, which is interesting and encouraging to someone following down that pathway.

It is a very useful book with a clear style and it presents an in-depth analysis of commercial banks. But it lacks one thing that could have made it much better: it doesnt have a solutions manual and a guide for the cases..It presents difficulties for the self learners like me...

The essentials of banking are clearly explained in this book.Topics such as the management of bank capital, asset/liability management,international banking and bank mergers and acquisitions are explained with detail and clarity. Though this book doesn't deal with internet banking it helps you understand the underlying nature of every bank. I specially like the chapter where the authors explain the profitability of banks and how the banking business measures it.

The authors seem to be out-of-touch with today's high-tech banking and trends. A new generation of bankers moving at the "speed of thought" has left the contents of this book in the dust. Not a good pick for educating students who will lead the pack in the new millennium.

No one who has lived through the last ten years can not have realized how tightly the economy has become coupled to the financial marketplace. Prof. Semmler has gone beyond that realization and has undertaken to examine the actual mechanics by which it occurs. In this excellent and intense introduction, current macroeconomic-financial models are explored; the reader will quickly appreciate how asset price booms and subsequent recessions actually work. Semmler's style is "to the point" and his enthusiasm for his subject is contagious. Great Chick Lit.......2007-01-25

I am so impressed with this book, I've ordered the first one! I loved the characters and the storyline. I thought each story was a wonderful variation on love and the pressures, considerations and feelings we have all felt in one relationship or another. And, while some of it was a little to neat, I've come to expect that with most chick lit books. These stories really felt like different threads of one story about slightly idealized, but fairly realistic life, love and friendships for modern working women.

Don't waste your money........2005-10-13

I read through the book and it was aweful. The first story has the character go to a seminar where the teacher is hot and into self realization. Here's a realization....this story is a waste of space. The man is nothing but a wimp and she let herself be brainwashed because he is hot. Does that make any sense? I'm sorry but nothing in this story appealed to me.

The next one is about the divorced woman who is seeing a younger man who would like to marry her. Of course she is gun shy and skittish. Again, I could not get into this. There was no warmth or depth to this story. Just a little background, sex, and resolution.

Finally, the last story. The guy thinks the girl wants to cheat, so he takes his jealousy out on her. He ignores her and starts to see someone else just to make her feel the same way he did. Then, he almost rapes her in an effort to take control of the situation. Hello, that is not romantic.

Pass on this book. If you want to read sexy, fun books try anthologies with Lori Foster, Erin McCartney, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Christine Feehan.

This is a great book! I was happy to see that Book Two was coming out! I'm big on romance books but I liked how there's a book of 5 friends and different authors get together and write for each of their lives!! Will there be a Book Three??

"Touched for the Very First Time" by Emily Carmichael. Dana's negative attitude is driving the other employees at Georgetown's Allheart.com card company crazy so they decide that for them to have R&R they must intervene and ship the grouch to the Gardens of Oak Creek Conference Center and Resort. "Nothing between Them" by Vivian Leiber. Following her divorce, Carole wonders if it is her or something wrong with the males of the species. However, that changes when she meets Mitch. Will she realize that Joe is the lasting thing while Parker is a shallow charmer?

These three interactive novellas are cleverly developed so that the characters who appear in all of them remain consistent regardless of who the author is. Each tale is fun to follow though the lead female shares a common trait of annihilating a loving relationship before they finally smell the coffee. Fans will appreciate this modern take on romance and the boardroom.

Way too Repetitive.......2004-12-20

This story chronicled the romances of 4 office friends/coworkers. Although I can honestly say I enjoyed the first short story, the otehr three seemed to be all the same. The writers, didn't have unique ideas for each character, and thus by the last short story I found myself putting the book down and not wanting to finish it.

The first story was not so bad, but being that there are 4 different authors, you would think that the 4 stories would each be a little bit different. Here is the recap - 4 independent business women, all of which have a dating handicap for one reason or another, meet the men of their dreams within the first few pages of each story. The man changes how they feel about men and then they live happily ever after. BORING!! Not to mention the constant references to designer duds such as Manolos, Hermes, etc. just doesn't bring any value to this book. It worked for Sex and the City because Sarah Jessica Parker is a style icon. This book is a whole lotta "been there done that" and is not worth the time it took to read.

I like these types of books to escape reality every so often. I've read better, but this one went quick and was easy to get through. I do find myself wanting to read "More Lipstick Chronicles" just to find out what happens to these girls though! Not bad, borrow it or buy it used.

I liked the premise of this book. It promised an interesting mix of chick-lit, romance and some very light erotica. The Lipstick Chronicles is a fun book with four stories about four friends and colleagues who meet the loves of their lives in unexpected ways. I liked the first story about an independent CEO and the handsome investor who steals her heart. This book was fun to read at first, but it became tiresome after the third story. The stories were too similar and the characters became tedious after a while. Each story is written by a different author, but there isn't a single thing that differentiates the writers -- it's almost as though one person wrote them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that The Lipstick Chronicles had a good premise, but it didn't hold my interest for long. It just didn't do it for me...

While this book isn't a thesis on lipstick or the cultural significance of lipstick, it is a light, informative read on where lipstick came from and how it's evolved over the years. I found the facts about what ingredients used to go into lipstick fascinating, and the book is filled with interesting factoids such as how to say 'lipstick' in several different languages. The photos are great---the old cosmetics ads are a hoot!---and the book is written in a light, breezy style that makes it easy to read.

This is long love letter to lipstick, written with the aren't I cool? bravado of a magazine journalist. A tiresome read, with lots of giggly plays on words. For now, I'll stick to Allure, and In-Style.

I was attracted to the cover of the book, which is its strong point. Once inside, there are more colorful pictures to look at, and I think the publisher would have been more wise to call it READ MY LIPS: A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF LIPSTICK rather than a CULTURAL HISTORY OF LIPSTICK. The style of writing is really more in line with magazine fashion writing, which I understand is the profession of the two authors of the book. I disagree with a previous review that this is a "must have for the serious fashion minded" customer. This is far too "Cutesy" and written with too much of an attempt to be hip. For the truly serious fashion minded person, there are a few semi academic yet also highly accessible books on makeup, including FASHIONS IN MAKEUP by Richard Corson, which the truly serious fashion minded have always known to be an excellent source of cultural/historical information... and it is not written with the "cuteness" that is present here. The total text, when the pictures are deleted, must be only about 15 pages. That, I believe, is an article, not a book.

This enhjoyable book is a must have for the serious fashion minded of us. A fun read covers the history of lipstick in an easy to read and eye pleasing layout.
