The concepts are presented pretty clearly, however the author is a Brit and the terminology used throughout is a bit foreign to me. But theres a lot of information here for someone who wants to get an overview of what inventory management entails.

Theory is not best practice.......2005-08-09

I bought this book expecting to find examples of new ideas developed recently by businesses that are considered at the top level related to assets management.
What I found was an excellent summary of all the textbooks used in college for the last 40 years. I could even find a chart we used in class in 1972.
Best Practices in Inventory management must include links to Manufacturing strategies, postponement of production to delay costs, improve flexibility for lower number of SKU's.
I find the title pretty ambitious but not enough "meat".

Stock problems? Look no further...........2002-07-05

If you work in stock control, sales, purchasing, or production planning and really do not have a clue where to start in order to maximise the profitability of your inventory (both raw materials and finished goods), then there is no better place to start than with this book. It gives much practical advice that is easy to implement in real business life and emphasises the genuine cost savings and improved cashflow that can be gained.

What I like most about the boook is its structure - it starts with the basics (why inventory control is important financially), and takes you through basic forecasting methods to more advanced levels (e.g. double exponential smoothing). You can implement most of the advice in Excel or similar spreadsheet. I am no mathematician and I must admit I found some of the formulas difficult to understand at first, but please do not be put off - perserverence will pay dividends and you will see this perseverence hit the bottom line!

This book is useful. It is expected, however, to be revised in some points. There are some miss specifications in terminologies and in some chapters, explanations are not good enough to understand the equations or methods the auther used.

I read close to 5 major books on warehousing, including Excellence in Warehouse Managment. I found most to be little more than books defining warehouse terminology. Bragg has clear ideas to improve warehousing (inventory management). "Nearly 200" says the dustjacket. I'd buy this one again.

much practical advice.......2007-03-09

The book is replete with much practical advice that can readily be understood and applied by a diligent reader. One example would be monitoring the scrap percentage for a manufacturing operation. As Bragg points out, this can be an indicator of poor workmanship, bad setup of the machinery or inferior raw materials used by the factory.

Another example is the rate of use of loading dock doors. Each door also implies an allocation of floor space next to it, for moving goods in and out of the warehouse. A door that is minimally used often suggests that floor space is not being fully utilised.

For these and many other examples, Bragg furnishes simple metrics to measure the effect. Most are trivial mathematically, and could be defined from first principles by a reader experienced in engineering. But the book seems to be aimed, in part, at a reader who does not have such a background. Perhaps you rose from the shop floor, to now have managerial responsibility?

All taxa characteristics are supplied with cross-references and references to a general "Index of Characters", which allows the reader to clarify the pattern of each character independently, whether or not it agrees with the author's phylogenetic hypothesis. The book contains complete lists of formal species names of mayflies of the world (except for Baetidae s.str. and Leptophlebiidae), with recent conclusion about status and systematic position of each,

-People interested in general entomology will find in the General Part of this book a new interpretation of insect abdominal structure and other data on general insect morphology, as well as a revised account of peculiarities of Ephemeroptera. These data were partly previously published only in Russian, and partly are published here for the first time,

-The book has general biological significance due to usage of the new non-ranking nomenclature and the rational layout of taxonomic text, which can be qualified as post-Linnaean systematics. While after the works by Lameere and Hennig, non-ranking classifications became widely used, this book represents the first experience of consistently non-ranking classification, including taxa of low taxonomic level (i.e. taxa traditionally regarded as genera, families et al.). In contrast to other recent attempts to elaborate a non-ranking nomenclature not contradictory to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, this one appears to be successful and can be applied to any zoological taxa (although its application in botany could be possible only after further elaboration). Biology is currently going through a crisis, which causes some investigators to use such non-scientific methods of reconstructing phylogeny as parsimony analysis. The author believes that the new method of phylogeny description and reconstruction used in this book will help indicate a way out of this crisis.

The movement of fluids through rocks has profound consequences for the transport of heat and matter within the Earth. Recently, considerable effort has been expended in determining the mechanisms and pathways of geological fluid flow, with much of this research concentrated on the effects of deformation on rock permeability. Although it is well known that fractures can act as conduits for fluid transport (as evidenced by abundant mineral-fined veins and sheet-like igneous intrusions), the role of ductile deformation has now been recognised as an important factor controlling rock permeability in environments as diverse as the mantle, the deep crust, and shallow crustal shear zones.
This book brings together review and research articles united by the theme of deformation-enhanced fluid transport, with the aim of emphasizing the many common roots of this important body of work. Subjects covered include the movement of basaltic melts in the mantle; the segregation, ascent and emplacement of granitic melts in the crust; the flow through the crust of volatile fluids produced during metamorphic events; and the movement of aqueous fluids through fractured rocks near the Earth's surface.
