Riddled with Errors and Typos.......2005-03-24
As an accounting intructor at a technical college, I adopted this text after successful use of a previous edition. However,in my opinion, this textbook is horrible! Riddled w/ errors, typos, and omissions, SW/Thomson Learning should be embarrassed to claim it as its own. What happened to their editors? Use something else when possible!

This book provides practical details for applying quantitative techniques in building portfolios to maximize expected utility. In particular, Kariya proposes use of his MTV (multivariate time series variance component) model for forecasting returns and risks. Essentially multivariate financial time series are decomposed into simpler principal components, which in turn are are analyzed as ARMA or GARCH models etc. (Compare with the work of Carol Alexander 1996.) This methodology is exemplified in the Japanese markets. Overall a systematic and disciplined approach to quantitative portfolio construction.

Whilst the focus of the work is on Europe, and in particular the European Patent Convention, the Council Regulation on Community Plant Variety Rights and the EU Directive on the Legal Protection of Biotechnological Inventions, these provisions are discussed within the context of international legislation, including the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) and the Convention on Biological Diversity. It is the first book to look at the impact of plant intellectual property rights on the European plant breeding industry and assess whether recent developments, such as the Novartis decision, will assist plant breeders, from all sectors of plant breeding activities, in the production of new plant products. In addition to a thorough discussion of the legislation, the book includes unique empirical research results obtained by the authors as part of a two-year research project funded by the European Union, which surveyed attitudes towards, and use of, plant intellectual property rights within the European plant breeding community.

I noticed that there a few copies of this book available for sale. You can download this book for free. So unless there is good reason don't pay for it.
The book itself is very good introductory material for seismic imaging for upper class or graduate college studies. It also contains usefull relations to seismic unix.

This book is a compilation of the review papers, expositions and some of the technical works of Leo Kadanoff, a theoretical physicist. The objective is to put together a group of not-too-technical writing in which he discusses some issues in condensed matter physics, hydrodynamics, applied mathematics and national policy.
The volume is divided into four sections. The first section contains review papers on hydrodynamics, condensed matter physics and field theory. Next is a selection of papers on scaling and universality, particularly as applied to phase changes. A change of pace is provided by a series of papers on the critical analysis of simulation models of urban economic and social development. The book concludes with a series of recent papers on turbulence and chaos. Each major section has an introduction designed to tie the work together and to provide perspective on the subject matter.
