The amount of information on the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease is growing rapidly. This is reflected by a continuous increase in the number of papers presented at international GI meetings. To make things more difficult for practicing physicians, there is also a large number of new clinical trials being published which require periodical critical reviews and recommendations. Faced with these issues, the scientific commitee of the Falk Symposium No. 140 decided to take a different approach and to apply a novel format that is reflected in the title of the Symposium: "Translation from basic research to clinical practice".
This book contains the proceedings of that Symposium, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on May 7–8, 2004. The sections are designed so that they start with the information from basic sciences on different aspects of these complex diseases and further lead to their clinical implications. Special attention is paid to the mechanisms of actions of established drugs. The last two sections are clinically oriented and focus on the most difficult aspects of both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. This format provides state-of-the-art chapters by leading experts in the field and at the same time up-to-date information on the clinical application of the new knowledge.

This book describes our present knowledge of protons and neutrons. Experiments using high-energy electrons, muons, and neutrinos reveal that the proton is made up of point-like constituents, i.e. quarks. The strong forces that bind quarks together, gluons, are described in terms of the modern theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Larger and newer particle accelerators provide an opportunity to see deeper into the proton and probe the interactions between quarks and gluons at shorter distances. An understanding of this detailed substructure and of the fundamental forces responsible is one of the keys to unraveling the physics of the structure of matter.

The book is an up-to-date, self-contained account of deep inelastic scattering in high-energy physics. Intended for graduate students and physicists new to the subject, it covers the classic results which led to the quark-parton model of hadrons and the establishment of quantum chromodynamics as the theory of the strong nuclear force, in addition to new vistas in the subject opened up by the electron-proton collider HERA. The extraction of parton momentum distribution functions, a key input for physics at hadron colliders such as the Tevatron at Fermi Lab and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, is described in detail. The challenges of the HERA data at 'low x' are described and possible explanations in terms of gluon dynamics and other models outlined. Other chapters cover: jet production at large momentum transfer and the determination of the strong coupling constant, electroweak interactions at very high momentum transfers, the extension of deep inelastic techniques to include hadronic probes, a summary of fully polarised inelastic scattering and the spin structure of the nucleon, and finally a brief account of methods in searching for signals 'beyond the standard model'.

This book was really over the top silly, and even the title didn't fit the story too much.
The premise was good, but the ending didn't deliver.
Awful with a captial A!.......2007-03-21
The only interesting character in this book in the main character's father's boyfriend/husband. I couldn't care less about what the main character did - I skipped the middle and read the end, and wasn't surprised to find out it took 308 pages for her to realise she had made the mistake with the 3rd husband as she did with the previous 2. No redeeming qualities at all.
3rd Time the Charm?.......2006-11-23
Venus Gilroy is about to get married-for the third time, but she is nervous because she does not have a good track record. Two husbands, a gay lover, and three parents (bio parents and dad's lover) do not make Venus think that love is something attanable.
The marriage goes off like planed and Venus and her new husband go with her two dads to a resort for their honeymoon. Unfortunitly Treymane disappears during the honeymoon and it is up to Venus to help save him . What happens to Venus and Treymane? Read my three husbands
A book my mother and I BOTH liked........2005-07-09
I bought this book for my mom for her 58th birthday, thinking it would be funny and a good spring read. She said she laughed out loud so much of the time that she promptly made me read it too. We both liked the offbeat characters that somehow seemed like plausible people and the way they had to balance their romantic lives alongside familial expectations- haven't we all had trouble with that! I would totally recommend this to anyone looking to laugh and be satisfied at the end of the story.

I liked this book! It's perfect for the beach or anywhere else you're looking to relax into a fun summer read. The story is adventurous, the mountain scenery beautifully described, and the characters well developed. They feel like neighbors you'd love to pop in to visit!
