Excellent Survey of Equity REITS But It Has Limitations........2003-04-13

This book is an excellent survey of the world of equity REITS. And it does sum up the value of buying each type of equity REIT. But if you're looking for a book which shows you how to invest in REITS and how to analyze the figures of a REIT, this isn't the book.

I also was hoping to find information on Mortgage REITS. There was only a paragraph or two on the subject --- certainly not enough information on this topic.

This book is geared more toward the analyst or someone with a tremendous amount of experience in REITS. It assumes you have a good background in REIT investing. And it certainly does not cover the entire field of REITS.

So it depends upon your needs as to whether or not this book would be a good addition to your investing library. I personally got three bits of information out of it that were worth the cost of the book. But I could have probably gotten the information elsewhere free.

Great Survey Of The REIT World.......2002-12-11

This book provided a great overview of the REIT industry. As an analyst, I found the summary data at the end of each chapter most useful. I also liked the interviews with the real estate titans, such as Sam Zell, they added a practical dimension to the "hard data" in the book. I picked-up some good practical insights from the interviews. It's a substantial but easy to read book.

A Must Read for Financial Planners and Seasoned Investors..........2002-09-19

This is a great guide for the sophisticated investor or financial planner looking to learn more about investing in Real Estate Investment Trusts. Mr. Imperiale outlines the history and characteristics of REITs as well as how investment portfolios can benefit from exposure to REITs. The interviews with succesful real estate investment professionals is also very insightful. This is a must read for the skilled investor considering purchasing REITs!

Computational molecular biology, or bioinformatics, draws on the disciplines of biology, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering. Coastal East and Southeast Asia are characterized by wet growing seasons, and species-rich forest ecosystems develop throughout the latitudinal and altitudinal gradients. In this region, the Global Change Impacts on Terrestrial Ecosystems in Monsoon Asia (TEMA) project was carried out as a unique contribution to the international project Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystems. TEMA aimed to integrate forest ecosystem processes, from leaf physiology to meteorological budget and prediction of long-term change of vegetation composition and architecture through demographic processes. Special attention was given to watershed processes, where forest ecosystem metabolism affects the properties and biogeochemical budgets of freshwater ecosystems, and where rivers, wetlands, and lakes are subject to direct and indirect effects of environmental change. This volume presents the scaling-up concept for better understanding of ecosystem functioning.

A book that works on several levels.......2004-10-23

This is a deceptively easy book to read -- a bit like last generation's medical-center satire, "The House of God." The latter, once described as "Catch-22" with stethoscopes, employed dark humor to mount a devastating indictment of the way physicians were trained in the 1970s. The ambitions of "Prot U" are not as large, but the book subjects academia to a similar farcical viewpoint, offering campus life as a microcosm of the perennial clash between politics and social responsibility.

For this reason, the book is fun to read simply as a short and well-paced novel about the colorful characters fictional Protestant U has brought together for a single academic season. However, the fact that the story is set in Texas allows the reader to infer a wry and subversive commentary on the corporate style of administration that emerged under the Bush governorship, and the difficulty of journalists to buck the system on which their livelihoods depended.

As a journalist herself who has worked in Texas, Rumpf knows this territory well, and she clearly enjoyed the opportunity to skewer some of the class and social roles that Texas culture appears to encourage. The book manages, however, to keep its humor light, skirting the mean-spiritedness of genuinely black comedy. At its core is a warm affection for the unsung heroes of our time, whose refusal to delegate individual responsibility to the corporate body always has its price.

Come to Prot U .......2004-08-30

A wry look at the collegiate scene. The author obviously had way too much fun writing the climax, and the journey there is swift and enjoyable.

The setting may be a fictional place in Texas, but the events and characters have a ring of truth which is too close for comfort. While human foibles are there, so too are the caring and courageous. This distillation of experience is like a fine cognac, smooth and tasty.

A memorable and enjoyable visit to our campuses.
