This book discusses a dilemma common to many corporation’s IT departments--the tension between top-down governance directives and the challenge to get everything properly functioning on a bottom-up basis. Making IT governance work does not simply mean adherence to an ABC of (a) going more deeply into rules, (b) implementing a framework, and (c) registering good results. Absolutely disappointing and no value!.......2006-10-25

I have struggled to complete this book with many moments of giving it up.
The book is a consolidation of articles, methodologies and write up from others. The authors do not have much or any own inputs. They are merely combining what they could find out there.

ALthough many methologies are being stated eg EVA, Information Orientation, Activity Based Costing, COBIT, I could not find how these could be used to quantify the value of IT investments in modern business world. The authors have just defined and explained the terms without any real life examples in how the quantification should be carried out.

I do not extract any value from this book and felt disappointed. The book is attractive by the hpye of the title only!!!!

This work aimed to investigate the effects of the bioreactor configurations and their design variables on the cultivation of vegetative cells Haematococcus pluvialis to achieve sustainable high cell density. The addition of vitamin B to F1 growth medium could appreciably enhance the final cell density. Employing this medium, the cultivation in the airlift bioreactor was demonstrated to outperform the bubble column at the same operating conditions. Aeration was crucial for a proper growth of the alga in the airlift bioreactor, but it must be maintained at low level to minimize shear stress. The most appropriate aeration velocity (superficial velocity) was at the lower limit of the pump, i.e. 0.4cms^-^1 and a smaller riser was shown to have positive influence on the cell growth. A 1% CO"2 supplement to the air supply considerably enhanced the growth rate of H. pluvialis and the most suitable light intensity for the growth was at 20@mmolphotonm^-^2s^-^1. The semi-continuous culture was successfully implemented with the optimal airlift bioreactor design and under optimal conditions the harvest could be performed every four days with the specific growth rate of 0.31d^-^1.

This book describes general techniques for solving linear partial differential equations by dividing space into regions to which the equations are independently applied and then assembling a global solution from the partial ones. It is intended for researchers and graduate students involved in calculations of the electronic structure of materials, but will also be of interest to workers in quantum chemistry, electron microscopy, acoustics, optics, and other fields. Multiple scattering theory is, in essence, an extension of Huygens's principle to quantum mechanics. In classical physics, it was introduced by Rayleigh to study propagation of heat and electricity in inhomogeneous media. In quantum theory it has been used to study a number of different phenomena, including LEED spectra, defects in crystalline and disordered media, transport phenomena, photoemission spectroscopy, and electronic-structure calculations. The book begins with an intuitive approach to scattering theory and then turns to partial waves and a formal development of multiple scattering theory, with applications to the solid state (muffin-tin potentials and space-filling cells). The authors then present a variational derivation of the formalism and an augmented version of the theory. It concludes with a discussion of the relativistic formalism and a discussion of the Poisson equation. Appendices discuss Green's functions, spherical functions, Moller operators and the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, irregular solutions, and singularities in Green's functions.

Another winner from My Favorite Author.......2005-07-15

Chris has done it again. Another perfectly hilarious collection of short stories involving what should otherwise be pretty mundane situations. My favorite story ,hands down... (what does "hands down" mean anyways?) involves a persons extremely BAD start to his day. I read this short story and laughed out loud. Thinking maybe the story really wasn't as funny as I thought it was I went ahead and read it to my girlfriend. She laughed out-loud too! I'm convinced... it's funny. If you haven't already read any of Chris Fedrico's books I suggest giving it a go.

Point'n'Laugh.......2005-06-07

Point'n'Laugh (or How to Deal With People Different From You). The preceeding is from Federico's Rejected Children's Specials in "Neurohumor and Supertruth." I laughed out loud while reading this book, and not in that lol, chatroom way. The book covers many thoughts and subjects, but the belly laughs were the selling point for me.

Funny and Intelligent Reading.......2005-05-19

"Neurohumor and Supertruth" is a fun read. Funny and smart, it's written in a way that requires you to use your brain too. Quick stories about modern life that are funny because they show how absurd some day to day things are. This is one of those books in which after finishing it, you want to sit down for coffee with the author and ask, "What made you think of THAT?"

Good stuff. If this gets some wider notice there wll be a thousand imitators.
