After a few years in waiting, I am glad to see that the Bond Market Association has released the 5th addition of The Fundamentals of Municiple Bonds. The author of this book did a great job capturing the signifigance of the municiple bond, and exaplining it clearly with graphs and charts. I highly recomend this book and give it a 5 star rating.

This book was amazing. Not only was it a great read (I couldn't put it down) but I learned more about derivatives and muni bonds in this book than i could have in any classroom or read in any other book on bonds.

This paper examines the determinants of the market-assessed sovereign risk premium, measured by the Brady bond stripped yield spread. Our study shows that, while standard economic fundamentals of a sovereign significantly affect the bond yield spread, the market's attitude towards risk is another important determinant. We construct a measure of the market's attitude towards risk called the risk appetite index (RAI), and find that for comparable changes in all the economic variables the RAI has a relatively large impact on the Brady bond yield spread. Our results explain why there is contagion in the Brady bond market and why often there is a divergence between the market's perception of the country risk premium and published ratings on sovereign creditworthiness.

This paper uses bond prices to investigate how the creditworthiness of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela is influenced by global, regional and country-specific factors. Each country's distance-to-default is estimated monthly for 1994-2001, by fitting the structural model of Cathcart and El-Jahel [Cathcart, L., El-Jahel, L., 2003. Semi-analytical pricing of defaultable bonds in a signalling jump-default model. The Journal of Computational Finance 6, 91-108] with a Kalman Filter to Brady bonds. A small set of variables is able to explain up to 80% of the variance of the estimated distance-to-default for each country. Surprisingly, country-specific variables account for only about 8% of the explained variance; the largest part of the variance (45%) is explained by regional factors, which relate to joint stock-market returns, volatility and market sentiment; global conditions, related mainly to US stock-market returns, explain another 25% of the variance. Of the 20% variance which remains unexplained, more than half is due to another common (but unidentified) factor. The conclusion is that the creditworthiness of these four emerging markets is driven mainly by a common set of factors, which are related closely to stock markets in the region and the United States.

Boone and Kurtz continue their mastery in
writing business books for business and
nonbusiness students with this edition. The
original version was in hard cover and an
interim edition was put out in paperback: The
1997 version has just been released and it
excels, too. The chapters are very well
written with superb examples, great end-of-
chapter video cases, and a solid support
package. The instructor's manual is very
helpful and comprehensive, too. Sadly, the
authors joined the pack by relegating business
law to an appendix. However, sometimes even
leaders follow. If there is a better intro. to
business book than this, let someone present it. At least a few graduate schools use it at the beginning of their master's programs in business and management, too.
The best news is that the new version is out.
However, this version can be used with relevance
very appropriately over the next decade.

The maturation of the precursors of mRNA to a functional transcript in eukaryotic cells is a complex, multistep process. It includes the formation of RNP complexes and the splicing procedure. Also, the presence of snRNA packaged as snRNP particles plays an important role in this process. In addition, snRNPs are involved in various autoimmune diseases in which autoantibodies are directed against components of these particles. Relevant techniques which are used to investigate RNA processing, splicing, protein-RNA complex formation and interactions as well as autoantibodies in basic and clinical research are presented in this manual.
