These are basic working papers to do your problems on. Their are no examples or anything to help explain. However the paper has the correct number of spaces for some problems which can help make sure you gain find all the information in the problem.

Good but..........2007-03-26

When I placed the order for this book I was looking for the latest edition of this title but in paperback (to cut cost) but unfortunately I rushed in my order and did not notice the word "Working papers" on the cover. When I received the book i was shocked to see it was only a 700+ pages book with only empty tables and place to answer the exercises which were listed in the main text book!!!
so I returned the book the same day! yet I am rating the book 4 star because it looked like a good help and a handy book for collage students to answer the exercises and practice. The tables were well organized and clear.

This book provides coherent theoretical and empirical analysis of firms' investment and financing decisions. It assesses the role of uncertainty, financial imperfections, corporate governance and taxation. Evidence is obtained using several unique and high quality microeconomic data-sets which explore features seldom addressed.

Overall, the empirical results confirm theoretical precedents. Some firms are indeed financially constrained, for fixed investment as well as for R&D projects. The `free cash-flow' hypothesis holds that managers divert excess funds away for their own interests, but less so in closely controlled companies. In accordance with the real option theory, the results suggest that uncertainty leads firms to adopt a `wait and see' strategy which eventually reduces investment, especially for irreversible investment. Corporate governance features are shown to affect managers, discipline and companies' restructuring plans. Finally, different tax reforms are evaluated, and an alternative tax structure that would stimulate growth is proposed.

Scholars, including those with an interest in microeconomics and econometrics, and staff within central banks and national and international organizations will also find the book of interest, as will policymakers and decision-makers concerned with the role of financing, corporate governance and taxation on firm's decisions.

Undocumented "chicken little" book.......1997-11-21

Author Patrick Garry claims that all events in recent American history are tied to, and usually caused by, the "litigation explosion." Little things like mass communication and advertising, two world wars, the Depression, technology, and urbanization had no impact.

What does Garry list as examples of the evils caused by the litigation explosion? TV shows like "American Gladiators" and "The McLaughlin Group." (believe it or not!) He even blames the litigation explosion on encouraging the fad of tell-all biographies -- you'd think litigation would discourage such writings. Logic does not enter into the claims made by this book.

Garry, Dole-like, wistfully hopes for the perfect days before the litigation explosion. In a sub-chapter titled, "An Unattainable Alternative," Garry goes on and on about the superiority of Japanese society, where in his opinion bliss is achieved by thinking alike, dressing alike, acting alike, and being so influenced by peer pressure that you give no thought to self-expression or "rights."

Garry uses about 300 footnotes, but 95+% of those citations are to current newspaper articles.

Although Garry changes themes and ideas every few pages, one recurrent theme is that Americans exercise their "rights" too much. That's all we think about. Another affect of the litigation explosion. (Those darn revolutionaries. Why couldn't we have been like Canada?)

Although Garry has the paper credentials where you would think he could write a REAL book on how litigation affects American culture, this is not that book. It's written in a "Chicken Little" style to an audience that considers "Hard Copy" an intellectual exercise. (yes, he refers to Hard Copy too!)

Here's a typical argument and "fact" from the book. Garry's fickle mind drifts to the claim that parties in a divorce litigate over picky issues -- like who should have the kids. (Imagine that.) Now, you might expect some discussion of divorce rates. Or whether no-fault is better than the fault system. Or at least what Garry proposes people do if he were made king and disallowed divorces. But no, the "fact" that Garry uses to support his idea that couples in America, generally, litigate over such picky issues, is that Marcia Clark's husband filed a motion for custody because she was consistently working late on the Simpson trial.

If the type of person who believes everything that's written down didn't believe these unsupported conclusions, the book would even be funny.

A Wonderful book!.......2006-07-28

"Treasure depends." This lapidary phrase (a treasure in itself) comes from one of the short stories in I and Claudie written by the unknown (to me) Dillon Anderson, who ought to become instantly famous for this little jewel alone.

The small joys of a 1940's short story collection are a tough sale, but this one is worth the bandwidth. See, there's these two guys, Clint Hightower and Claudie Hughes (the titular I and Claudie) who flee legal entanglements in late 1940's New Orleans and go to Texas, where they get into the mildest, sweetest, tenderest scrapes ever, all narrated with crooked innocence by Clint himself.

My favorite two stories are "The Auction" and "Fixing Windmills" (these titles hint at the gentleness of their adventures). In the first one, Clint utterly fails to be an auctioneer, and in the second one, no windmills are fixed at all. The introduction to the 1999 edition points out that the key to writing about rascals is to have them never win, which is true of Clint and Claudie. However, in this book, the right side still always wins, and, now, in the year of Oh!Lord! 2006 there's something charmingly prelapsarian about having the good guys triumph.

I convey my highest recommendations.
