Too Cute, Too Short, Too Sloppy.......2003-03-23

First law of calculus: you can't make it easy. It's hard, requires effort and time to comprehend, and can't be reduced to a few hundred pages, written in a faux friendly style and dotted with cartoons. The typos don't help, either. (Typos seem a common link among all the books in the Bob Miller Clueless series.)

I suppose, if you're just getting started, that a book such as this one (but not THIS particular book) would help you achieve a useful overview of the subject, but then you must find a concise, no-nonsense textbook or workbook, where the 'C' word is clarity, not cartoon.

The Clueless series, and others books of its ilk, are generally written with a mandate to be appealing and friendly, goals which are often at odds with teaching the material in a clear manner and not hiding the fact that learning is work.

I'm sure Bob Miller knows his calculus well; he just can't teach it to others while saddled with the 'Clueless' concept.

At best, the title is an accurate description of the state you'll experience once you've sat down and tried to make some headway. At worst, it's a misnomer. The format is apparently designed to put your mind at ease that, when the next TEST comes around, you'll be fine. Unfortunately, a healthy bromide for test jitters this ain't. A far and away better book is Robert and Carol Ash's The Calculus Tutoring Book, which is designed to actually TEACH calculus without mystification.

This book had very good explanations, which where clear and precise. It's examples where shown step-by-step...no steps were skipped, which some texts tend to do. I especially recommend this book to people who are having difficulty with cosine and sin problems. Your math anxiety will be decreased after reading the logic behind the formulas and practising the problems from this book.

A History of The Old Time Farm Implement Companies and the Wrenches they Issued in my opinion is the Bible for both serious and novice Wrench Collectors. It is the standard being used by collectors and buyers and sellers. Wrenches being sold on the Internet are often advertised with reference to page and items listed in Rathbone's Book. This is the only book that covers all of the Farm Equipment Companies, and it includes photo's of the wrench as well as history of the Company the issued it.

The supplement wich includeds a Price Guide, Company Names and Part Number is extremely valuable. Wrenches that include only a number but no Manufacturer's name can be quickly and accurately identified from the information in this supplement.

There was a tremendous amount of Research Time and travel put into this book. No collector of wrenches or old iron should be without it.

P.T. Rathbone drew upon his own collection, the collections of many other people, and extensive research to compile this listing of implement manufacturer's wrenches. It is the most complete and comprehensive listing available.

Collectors and dealers already have come to rely on the book as a common reference for sales and swaps. The separate part number indexes, and compilation of auction prices realized are an added bonus.

Historians of mechanized agriculture will also find this book useful because it is an extensive list of implement makers -- even the short-lived and obscure-- and because Rathbone's notes on information sources can be starting points for additional research.

Good for actual implemtation.......2005-02-10

This book is a good overview of Multirate signal processing. It has a good mix of theory and practical application. I was able to use this book to help me design an almost perfect reconstruction modifed DFT filterbank for use in a Xilinx FPGA.

good starter.......2003-09-16

By luck, this book was the first I tried for filter banks. Although sparse in some parts, I found it easy to replicate the examples and extend them. Working through this book wasn't all that hard and seemed to give a good basis for further study. Vaidyanathan looks somewhat formidable.

Save Your money.......1999-06-09

Touches on many aspects of multirate theory, but gives little in-depth substance. For a book this pricy, I would expect something more. Buy Vaidyanathan instead....the bible of multirate.
