How is the distribution of power between the different levels of the contemporary constitution to be policed? What is the emerging contribution of the courts in regard to EC law, the Human Rights Act 1998 and devolution? What roles should be played by the legislative and judicial bodies at each level? Who should have access to the courts in public law disputes, and on what grounds should the courts regulate the exercise of public power? Can a coherent distinction be maintained between public and private law? These essays by leading public law scholars explore the allocation and regulation of public power in the United Kingdom.
At the beginning of the twenty first century it appears that the traditional Diceyan model of a unitary constitution has been superseded as power has come to be distributed - particularly in the post-1997 period - between institutions at European, national, devolved and local level. Furthermore, the courts have come to play a powerful role at all levels through judicial review, while forms of regulation and contracting, together with other informal techniques of governance, have emerged.
The contemporary constitution can be characterised as involving a multi-layered distribution of power - a situation which raises many key questions about the role of public law. The essays in this important collection tackle such questions from a variety of perspectives, aiming between them to provide a dynamic picture of the role of public law in the contemporary, multi-layered constitution.

First, I have returned this book. I did not completely read it, but rather skimmed through and was disappointed with my findings. It is pitched at a comparatively elementary level, not the quantitative measures of benefit to a process engineer. In general the teaching presented, which appeared to be little, was inconsistent with the content implied by the title.

Little Text, Mostly Sample Questions.......2004-02-02
I bought this book to study for the Chemistry CLEP, but sent it back after I saw it.
I like study guides in paragraph form that go over the material that will be on the test, and then some review questions at the end of a section. This book was not that.
This book goes over the basics of taking a CLEP test (which is the same information found in every other CLEP book I have picked up), it briefly outlines the test content, and then the rest was exam questions. There may have been two pages that went over actual information.
This may be a great book to test whether or not you remember what you have read, but it was not what I was looking for. I would recomend reading a textbook over this.
The material covered looked pretty hard, and I am a 4.0 student. I am probably going to take the Biology CLEP instead. (I am not interested in memorizing the Periodic Table and the weights of all the elements.)
I hope this helps you. I wish there had been a review for me to read before I purchased it.

Not what I expected.......2007-07-17
The large number of practice tests are good, but the majority of the book is useless for helping to pass the test. More than half was advice about CLEP tests in general, and stuff like careers in chemistry. Who cares. The book will be useful to practice on only after I learn chemistry from another book.
