The study guide itself is a pretty good concept, but there are so many errors (too many to even think about listing), that it is difficult to even follow, or to even be sure you are reading about the correct concept. If you absolutely NEED a study guide for the book, it's the only thing available, otherwise I wouldn't bother simply because it has so many errors.

Environmental Chemistry contains the essentiel concepts to the practice
and the understanding of industrial ecology and green chemistry. The
structure of the book is very clear. It is a greate pleasure to reed it.

Good Reference Text; Poor Class Text.......2000-06-20

I used this text a few years ago when I was writing a paper on ethics of pesticide use, and it certainly details information well. However, the general tone is often anal and the writing style is extremely drab. Most of the diagrams included were generated using low-budget graphics software, and it shows. At 811 pages, this is an overly long book and not all the chapters (24 total) can be covered in a single Echem course. Also, there is no solutions manual and the problems Manahan gives are challening (a section of numerical solutions placed in the back of the text would have been nice...) This is a good reference text, but if you're looking for a semester-long or short-term text to use for an Echem course, use Baird's text, not Manahan's.

This text is well written. The author give a understanding of Environmental Chemistry. The reader gets a good understanding of basic chemistry as well as a understanding of the effects of Chemistry on the environment.

Text is good in introduction of topics, poor for advanced.......1999-06-26

Text gives good introduction to concepts only and not good for advanced studies because not explain how to apply the concepts to real world problems. It lacks in calculations needed to sovle problems and has no solution guide for the questions that are in the text. A lot of reference texts will be needed to solve the problems. No periodic table found in the text or conversion chart in the text which is very poor for a chemistry text. But it is an excellent text for learning the concepts of environmental chemistry.

An excellent introduction to modern topics in e-chem........1999-06-20

Manahan compiles many sources of information into one, easy to follow and compact reference. The only limitation of the text is the absence of sample calculations for solving the problems that come at the end of each chapter. Reference to a solutions guide would be helpful.

Previous research has shown that phobic subjects with low heart rate variability (HRV) are less able to inhibit an inappropriate response when confronted with threatening words compared to phobic subjects with high HRV [Johnsen, B.H., Thayer, J.F., Laberg, J.C., Wormnes, B., Raadal, M., Skaret, E., et al., 2003. Attentional and physiological characteristics of patients with dental anxiety. Journal of Anxiety Disorders, 17, 75-87]. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in self-reported anxiety when low HRV and high HRV fearful flyers (N=15) and a matched control group (N=15) were exposed to flight-related pictures, flight-related sounds or both pictures and sounds. We hypothesized that sounds would be crucial to evoke fear. Also, low HRV fearful flyers were expected to report higher anxiety than high HRV fearful flyers assuming anxiety as their inappropriate response. Decreases on HRV measures were also predicted for a subgroup of phobic participants (N=10) when confronted with the feared stimuli. Our data supported the hypothesis that sounds are crucial in this kind of phobia. Low HRV fearful flyers reported higher anxiety than high HRV fearful flyers in two out of three aversive conditions. The predicted HRV decreases were not found in this study. Results are discussed in the context of avoidance of exposure-based treatments.

Stochastic differential equations, and Hoermander form representations of diffusion operators, can determine a linear connection associated to the underlying (sub)-Riemannian structure. This is systematically described, together with its invariants, and then exploited to discuss qualitative properties of stochastic flows, and analysis on path spaces of compact manifolds with diffusion measures. This should be useful to stochastic analysts, especially those with interests in stochastic flows, infinite dimensional analysis, or geometric analysis, and also to researchers in sub-Riemannian geometry. A basic background in differential geometry is assumed, but the construction of the connections is very direct and itself gives an intuitive and concrete introduction. Knowledge of stochastic analysis is also assumed for later chapters.
