Detection and Classification of Low Probability of Intercept Radar Signals Using Parallel Filter Arrays and Higher Order Statistics
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 142350707X |
Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A461704. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Low probability of intercept (LPI) is that property of an emitter that because of its low power, wide bandwidth, frequency variability, or other design attributes, makes it difficult to be detected or identified by means of passive intercept devices such as radar warning, electronic support and electronic intelligence receivers, In order to detect LPI radar waveforms new signal processing techniques are required This thesis first develops a MATLAB toolbox to generate important types of LPI waveforms based on frequency and phase modulation The power spectral density and the periodic ambiguity function are examined for each waveforms These signals are then used to test a novel signal processing technique that detects the waveforms parameters and classifies the intercepted signal in various degrees of noise, The technique is based on the use of parallel filter (sub-band) arrays and higher order statistics (third- order cumulant estimator) Each sub-band signal is treated individually and is followed by the third-order estimator in order to suppress any symmetrical noise that might be present, The significance of this technique is that it separates the LPI waveforms in small frequency bands, providing a detailed time-frequency description of the unknown signal, Finally, the resulting output matrix is processed by a feature extraction routine to detect the waveforms parameters Identification of the signal is based on the modulation parameters detected,

Optimization of a GPS-Based Navigation Reference System
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 1423573595 |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A088023. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The development of increasingly accurate new aircraft navigation systems has caused the Air Force to develop a new Navigation Reference System to test them, called the Submeter Accuracy Reference System (SARS). The SARS is an inverted GPS system which consists of an array of GPS receivers on the ground and an airborne pseudolite mounted on the test aircraft. The SARS will provide a proof position estimate that is used to check the navigation system under test. Unfortunately, ground based inverted GPS systems tend to suffer from high geometric sensitivity to measurement errors. This research tackles the problem of optimizing the SARS receiver array configuration to minimize the system's sensitivity to pseudorange errors. The analysis determines that the proper choice of cost function for the optimization is the condition number of the H matrix, rather than the commonly used GDOP. Insight into the problem is provided by a graphical technique for evaluating receiver array geometry. Moreover, two receiver array numerical optimization programs are developed. The results of the receiver array optimization show that the geometric sensitivity to error in the SARS airspace can be reduced to acceptable levels through proper array design. Several good receiver array designs are shown. Finally, a technique for further reducing the geometric sensitivity of the SARS is discussed.

Thin Film Magnotoresistive Sensors
S Tumanski Manufacturer: Taylor & Francis ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0750307021 |
Book Description
Thin Film Magnetoresistive Sensors presents a comprehensive review of thin film magnetoresistive (MR) sensors, including the theory of MR effects as well as the design, fabrication, properties, and applications of MR sensors. With over 1,000 references, the book fully reviews the theory, development, and use of these sensors. It provides essential information about the performance of various kinds of sensors, including permalloy magnetoresistors, spin valve sensors, multilayer sensors, colossal effect sensors, spin dependent tunneling sensors, and magnetoimpedance sensors. Divided into three independent parts, the book first concentrates on the most widely used sensors-anisotropic magnetoresistive sensors (AMR). The second part deals with giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensors, including those still in development. In the third section, the book describes the applications of MR sensors, especially in data storage systems, industrial measurements, and nondestructive material testing systems.

Book Description
Mike on these occasions was silent and jumpy, his brow "sicklied o'er with the pale cast of care." But Psmith followed his leader with the pleased and indulgent air of a father whose infant son is showing him round the garden. Psmith's attitude toward archaeological research struck a new note in the history of that neglected science. He was amiable, but patronizing. He patronized fossils, and he patronized ruins. If he had been confronted with the Great Pyramid, he would have patronized that.Download Description

This said, I need to quickly confirm that Mike and Psmith is a wonderful novel. It still has a freshness and innocence about it that is highly appealing. In this day and age, of rampant murders and unclear elections, Mike and Psmith is as sunny and cheerful a book as you are likely to find. And just to show you that I read Mike and Psmith with my eyes wide open, I have to state that my early comments are not intended as criticism but as a compliment. The subtlety is the very reason why this novel is so great! It is his art in creating a scene or a character and putting in the interesting setting of Sedleigh that Wodehouse shows why so many refer to him as the Master.
Mike and Psmith is not the funniest book Wodehouse wrote, but it does have many incredible scenes, especially Mr. Downing's search for the paint splashed shoe. I agree with the other reviewers that this is the high point of the book. I think readers will find a lot to enjoy in this novel. It is an escape to a world not that far removed for our own but placed in a time that we will never see again. This novel truly scores a century!

Very enjoyable.......2000-04-21
For those who haven't read a Psmith novel before, I highly recommend them. It is said that Wodehouse created the Jeeves and Wooster characters as 2 spin-offs from Psmith and you can certainly see the connections! On the whole, another Wodehouse classic.
