Good book, not great........2002-12-27

This is a relly good book for the beginner with little knowledge about invesments. However, I would not let this book be my night in shining armor (or princess actually). The book does not go into enough detail to thouroughly explain the most common types of investment options or how they work but it does provide a good general overview.

Great book for present times.......2002-06-18

I saw this book in my library and decided to pick it up because the book is quite recent. I found that the book was easier to read. Not too complex and it talked about the bursting of the bubble, etc. I liked the section on evaulating stocks and the on analysts. I think it is a good read. Highly recommend.

New Rules of personal investing.......2002-01-28

I am most impressed with the overall content of this book. It provides the basics and reminds us why we should invest during this somewhat "nervous" time, and presents the options to do so in a straightforward, factual way. I appreciate the historical overview, but also this book is relevant since it's newly published and thus reflects lessons learned from 2000/2001 investment experiences. Experienced investors will find this a little too simple, beginners will struggle a bit, but for the majority of us who know just enough to be dangerous, the information and viewpoints are helpful. We purchased this book for our community library; I then bought a personal copy so I could highlight and mark up pages for future reference as I put my own financial plan together.

A good book but not what it proposes to be.......2001-11-13

I think this is an excellent book for an overview of Great Danes and the considerations in deciding to own one. Making the decision to get a giant breed is a big one and this book is great for considering all that comes along with that. I would say it's better for people to read BEFORE deciding whether to buy a Great Dane to prepare and make sure you're up for all that's involved, but as far as a complete book for a Great Dane owner, I would recommend getting a book that has more specifics on the various topics rather than just an overview. This is NOT a one and only book for the Great Dane owner.

A good, easy to read overview of the Great Dane. Enjoyed it. Helped me prepare for being a first time Dane owner, and left me with a very good idea of what to expect.

Not bad but..........1999-07-06

This was pretty good and i will use it as a reference, but i was a little frustrated with the book. Throughout almost the entire middle section instead of answering very important questions on the topic of the chapter, he would just say "check with your great dane mentor for information on...." - feeding, bloat, purchasing, etc, etc etc. I got this book to get this guys opinion not for him to tell me to check with someone else. I did think that the sections on training were good.

Owing to the development and rapid spread of communication technologies including the Internet, the world is indeed turning into a global village. The rate of introduction of new products and technologies is steadily rising. At the same time, pressures to reduce time-to-market are mounting. Only companies that are able to realize products rapidly are able to survive today.
From a technological viewpoint, rapid product realization involves rapid design, rapid prototyping, and rapid tooling. Fortunately, a class of technologies, also collectively called rapid prototyping (RP) technologies, has emerged in the last two decades or so to meet these requirements. Early technologies merely aimed to produce single part look-alikes. However, intense R&D efforts are taking place around the world to go beyond mere `look alike' single part prototyping, into functional, multi-part assemblies.
RP technologies are different from other modern manufacturing technologies in many ways. In RP, material is usually added incrementally in a layered manner and, occasionally, subtracted. Some technologies depend upon layers of resin cured under the influence of one or more CNC controlled laser beams. Others use lasers to selectively sinter layers of powdered metal. There are also RP technologies that do not use lasers at all. Indeed, RP is turning out to be a potent arena for technological creativity.
This book provides an updated overview of RP technologies at a level of detail that university engineering students taking courses on RP as well R&D and operating professionals from industry interested in RP are likely to find attractive. While the emphasis is on laser-based technologies, other processes are also discussed. With respect to each important RP process, the part/assembly modeling techniques, the materials used, process itself, advantages and disadvantages, accuracy and finish issues as well as application potential are discussed.

Living just 45 minutes from Venice,I read everything about that magic place I can find.This book is a shallow story that could take place anywhere-I doubt the author has ever even been to Venice.Disappointing.

Unique plot, Funny, Very Entertaining!.......2006-07-31

Picked this up from my library's New Release shelf. Set in Venice, featuring Kate Fujimori, cat burglar extrordinairre (sp?), rival thieves, a double crossing associate ... that's just for beginners! A lively read, funny, a bit of black humor. I hope David Campbell, debut author with this title, will be writing more soon!

Great summer read.......2006-07-16

Although I'm usually the type to read classic (or "serious") literature, I found this to be a great summer read--entertaining and fast-paced. The descriptions are highly detailed and the characters are unfailingly interesting. Within the first few pages, I was definitely hooked. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read a light thriller/caper. If you've felt frustrated reading books where the author takes the easy way out and uses brand-names instead of thoughtful detail, you'll enjoy the intelligent use of description and characterization found here.

fun slapstick mystery.......2006-07-12

They met when she took his graduate class in Italian renaissance art at Columbia University. He mentored her in the art of burglary as a husband and wife team of robbers. However when "Professor" Paul Fujimori decides to retire from his profession of stealing valuable art, his wife Kate refuses as she depends on the thrill to provide her with an adrenalin rush. Instead the couple splits up.

Kate goes to Venice on her fist job without her teacher. Paul retires (and the couple separates), Kate looks for ever more challenging assignments, a search that leads her to Venice to purloin a valuable fake Mona Lisa. She enlists the help of master thief Freddy Doloreux. Her perfect plan goes awry when two bungling amateurs try to steal the same item on the same night and her partner has sold her out to an adversary, who has set it up for the Italian police to nab her or if they, as expected by her foe, fumble the arrest arrange for a hit man to kill her.

Toss away realism for a slapstick mystery, sort of mindful of Hudson Hawk meets Alfred Hitchcock with the Pink Panther in pursuit. VENETIAN HOLIDAY is a zany tale that has no boundaries as Kate goes from one escapade into another including falling in love in what is one heck of a one night stand. Don't even ask about the morning after as readers who enjoy a wild lighthearted amusing crime caper in which plausibility is irrelevant will want to follow the adventures of Kate navigating Venice.

The perfect summer read.......2006-06-19

A sort of mix between Peter Mayle (for the charming trope of American discovering new love and lease on life in a European country), "The Italian Job" (for the criminal elements, both the appealing and the dastardly, who keenly machinate and wreak havoc), and David Lynch (for those mezmerizingly, stunningly, bizarre side notes). Campbell does a great job of delivering different voices (one readily forgives the ability of all characters--French, Italian, American--to bandy slang about with equal facility), each of them delightful and distinct. The book has loads of rich and peculiar character details, a positively breathless plot, clever references, and fun forgery facts; all in all, a juicy, rollicking, intelligent, sassy read.
