They can say its a new edition or its been updated, but the fact is that this particular outsourcing book is best borrowed.
We researched many books on the subject and this one has been around for awhile. Its basically one chapter reproduced several times for different departments but the insight is far from ground breaking. I advise you look at the current leaders in outsourcing book sales and get some newer information and innovative ideas.
On a positive note, if you have never had any exposure to outsourcing before, this book may meet your needs.

Bragg changes the service line name but the content stays the same in chapter after chapter. I recommend you look very carefully at this book before you spend the money. Over half the book is the same information with small changes, chapter by chapter. More current info is available on the internet.

Absolutely worthless book. An attempt to make a guide for all possible outsourcing situations -and as a result it gives few ideas and nothing really useful.
A Very Topical Subject - Outsourcing.......2001-01-04
This is a great book to understand Outsourcing, why you need it, when you need it and how to do it successfully. The book guides you through;
(1) The Advantages and Disadvantages of Outsourcing. (The basic rationale of the decision) (2) Contract-specific issues. (Legal, strategic impact, etc) (3) Transition issues. (Employment contracts, timelines, personnel) (4) Creating Control Points. (So you know what's going on) (5) Measuring the outsourced function. (Milestone events and performance tracking) (6) Managing the outsourced function. (Show optimal management type for every function) (7) Potential customer service issues. (Also applies to Internal Customers, the employees) (8) Getting out of the outsourcing arrangement. (You need to put it in the contract)
Interestingly enough, every function can be outsourced, either partially or completely. (Yes, even YOUR job!). Take a proactive approach. Buy the book, absorb the knowledge and be part of the solution rather than the problem. In addition to being an excellent author, Mr. Bragg "walks the talk". He's not an academician telling us how things could be but rather an experienced professional who understands how things work in the real world. A rare talent. You need this book. Rated A+++

Agricultural policy developments in OECD countries in 1996 unfolded against a background of high commodity prices, budgetary pressures, the BSE crisis in the beef sector, and the implementation of the Uruguay Round trade agreement on agriculture. Agricultural policies are becoming more complex and diverse. The environment and rural development are attracting increasing attention of policy-makers. This tenth annual report evaluates progress made in reforming agricultural policies and agricultural trade measures. There is a greater reliance on budget-financed measures, with weaker links to agricultural commodities. While overall support to the agricultural sector decreased in 1996, there are considerable differences in levels of support across countries and commodities. The report is in two parts. The Monitoring and Evaluation provides an evaluation of overall agricultural policy developments, together with a description and evaluation of developments in OECD countries. The detailed background tables, which include data from 1986-88 to 1996, and information on policy developments, are provided in the Measurement of Support and Background Information. This years report also includes sections on the Czech Republic, Hungary, Korea, Mexico, and Poland.

Although there are many textbooks on the subject of chemical reaction engineering, catalytic combustion is mentioned either only briefly or not at all. The authors have chosen three examples where catalytic combustion is utilized as a primary combustion process and natural gas is used as a fuel - stationary gas turbines, process fluid heaters, and radiant heaters; these cover much of the area where research is currently most active. In each of these there are clear environmental benefits to be gained illustrating catalytic combustion as a "cleaner primary combustion process" . The dominant heat transfer processes in each of the applications are different, as are the support systems, flow geometrics and operating conditions.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This report outlines the research undertaken for the development of a seismic instrumentation and monitoring plan, to be proposed to the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), for the Kealakaha Stream Bridge Replacement Project. The Kealakaha Stream Bridge will replace the old Kealakaha Stream Bridge, located 21 miles north of Hilo, Hawaii, with a new 645 foot structure. Construction is expected to begin in late 1997 (HDOT, 1995). This study utilizes information contained in several California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (CSMIP) Data Utilization Reports to analyze and interpret the engineering and theory associated with bridge structure instrumentation and monitoring. In addition, these reports were used to investigate the types of information that can be obtained from acceleration data and what methods were used to process the data. The proposed seismic instrumentation plan consists of 41 seismic accelerometers, 4 relative displacement sensors and three data recording units. All instruments and recorders are interconnected and have direct download capability to various research centers. The instruments will monitor and record the full motion of the structure, including free-field motion, pile cap translation and rotation, deck and abutment accelerations, joint movement and column bent rotation.

Joseph Wilkins has a free and easy writing style that shifts easily from anecdote to anecdote. The book is funny - very funny.
If you know Atlantic City - and I do - the book captures the City before it becomes swamped by casinos. It exposes the inside city - the side you can't get without reading this book or another one that informs as well. The trouble is - there are no better, not even equal, performers.
