Good comprehensive book.......2001-04-11

I would have given full praises for this excellent writing. It did help me to understand better the subjects in my degree courses. The explainations are clear and direct with interesting colourful examples. 'Feature story' on the start of each chapter section give an insight for real world examples and 'Accounting in action' do explore the critical thinking on the issue. 'Review It' and 'Do It' sections help the students to test their understanding before reading on further. Exercises and cases at the end of each chapter will enhance students' learning and knowledge abilities. My lecturer highly recommends this book since it is comprehensive and the illustrations give better pictures about the whole chapter. Since this book also includes theoretical aspect of accounting, it is excellent as a basic for students who would like to learn the accounting principles.

Accouting Principles-too much text and not enough examples.......1999-08-17

This is a 27 chapter 1200+ page textbook. The main problem with this book is that there are plenty of questions at the end of each chapter, but there is no way to check your answers. There isn't even a book to buy in addition to this one that allows the answers to be reviewed. This in my opinion makes this a HORRIBLE text to learn from.

This Textbook is a good teaching book, if the instructor isalso good. The drawback of this book is it overcomplicates severalareas and has the chapters set up in a bad order. The the biggest thing wrong with this book is it has several errors in the book and even more in the working papers. The book does however make a good introduction of accounting and covers the subject well.

The authors of this book take a lot of care in anticipating where students will have trouble understanding the accounting concepts. They use many examples and worked out problems as well as real companies which can help you see what is happening in the real world of accounting. The book is full of pictures, illustrations and lots of color.

This book is the latest addition to the Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry series. The chapters are designed to give the reader not only the understanding of the basics of infrared spectroscopy but also to give ideas on how to apply the technique in these different fields.

Since spectroscopy is the study of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter, the first two chapters deal with the characteristics, properties and absorption of electromagnetic radiation. Chapter 3 provides the basis for vibrations in molecules from a classic mechanical point of view. Absorption of infrared radiation by a vibration in a molecule depends on the symmetry of the molecule and the symmetry of the vibrations. However, these symmetry aspects are not usually treated in textbooks on infrared spectroscopy. Therefore, Chapter 4 deals with the symmetry aspects of molecules and illustrates how the reader can determine the vibrations that are infrared active. Chapter 5 describes group frequencies and assignments of infrared band.

Chapter 6 is an overview of the instrumentation used to perform the majority of Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopic experiments today. Chapter 7 describes a variety of the so-called hyphenated techniques that combine the use of FT-IR spectroscopy to another analytical technique.

Chapter 8 depicts certain applications of FT-IR spectroscopic techniques to basic and industrial research. Specifically, a big portion of the chapter deals with the characterization of polymers and polymeric surfaces whereas the remaining part describes applications to organic thin films and biological molecules.

Finally, Chapter 9 deals with some modern analytical methods in infrared spectroscopy. The methods that are described here are again not very common in books on infrared spectroscopy. In this chapter, the subject of two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-IR) is also discussed. The principles of the technique along with selected examples of the applications of the 2D-IR treatment are presented.

For the ordinary people of Nazi Germany, resistance rarely took the form of active political or economically disruptive activity. But a great many people expressed their disgust through jokes and humor. In Underground Humour in Nazi Germany: 1933-1945, F. K. M. Hillenbrand compiles a collection of jokes, stories and cartoons representing covert popular opposition which took humorous form. Even this was dangerous, as an ill-judged moment of wit could lead to the camps; but the Nazis themselves recognized the impossibility of stopping anti-Nazi jokes.

Although wonderfully entertaining, Underground Humour in Nazi Germany:1933-45 is not a joke book, but a serious study of the uses of humor and word play, supplemented always with full translations and explanations when a joke is retold. Hillebrand explains not only how humor could be used subversively in the Third Reich, but also suggests the ways that people resist under any totalitarian conditions, not exclusively Nazi Germany. He emphasizes the importance of humor to societies under stress.

Revealing an important feature of the Third Reich's social history, Underground Humour in Nazi Germany:1933-45 is an invaluable contribution to our understanding of 20th century Germany.
