Miracle Guide to construction accounting.......2003-04-22
I am a systems manager, and know nothing about accounting. However I did know that my husband's construction firm was not using QuickBooks Pro properly. Amazon's helpful search engine suggested that I might like Contractor's Guide to Quickbooks Pro 2002. Amazon sure was right. This book quickly and simply explained how to set up a construction company's accounts and helped me turn two years worth of mis-input data into reliable reports. It also helped me develop a 10 page guide for the company's staff to use when entering invoices and payments.
The authors also have telephone support for reason prices although I have not yet needed to use them. They will also convert a Company's Quickbooks accounts into their suggested standard for a pretty reasonable fee.
I would highly recommend this book to small and medium sized construction companies. The book is wonderful, especially for non accounting types.
EASY TO FOLLOW FOR THE ACCOUNTING LAYMEN.......2002-10-30
I PURCHASED THIS BOOK WHEN ALL ELSE FAILED. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE QUICKBOOKS FOR MY HUSBANDS CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS. QUICKBOOKS FOR THE CONTRACTOR GIVES YOU THE INFORMATION YOU NEED IN THE TERMS THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.I FOUND THAT THE HELP MENU IN QUICKBOOKS WAS BASED ON A MAIL ORDER COMPANY AND DID NOT GET THE QUESTIONS I NEEDED ANSWERED.I RECIEVED THE BOOK, READ IT COVER TO COVER AND USED IT STEP BY STEP FROM ESTIMATING TO TO PAYING JOB MATERIAL BILLS.
IT WAS SO EASY AND THE BEST PART IS THE BOOKKEEPING IS RIGHT!!
FINALLY!!
I HIGHLY REC0MMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY SELF EMPLOYED CARPENTER OR CONTRACTOR WHO IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH QUICKBOOKS.
ALSO IT COMES WITH A DISK THAT MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO IMPORT ESTIMATES FROM NATIONAL ESTIMATER. THERE IS EVEN A DEMO TO SHOW YOU HOW. GREAT BOOK HANDS DOWN
A straightforward, easy-to-follow guide.......2002-07-12
Collaboratively developed and written by Karen Mitchell, Craig Savage, and Jim Erwin, Contractor's Guide To QuickBooks Pro 2002 is a straightforward, easy-to-follow guide for setting up and using the QuickBooks Pro 2002 accounting software to expedite one's construction business. Meant expressly for contractors who may be lacking in familiarity with computer software programs, the individual chapters address the basics of using QuickBooks Pro 2002, setting preference, using it to track workers' comp costs and other expenses, recording receivables and payables, keeping track of one's customer base and much more. A solid, "user friendly", highly recommended "how to" manual and reference, Contractor's Guide To QuickBooks Pro 2002 is enhanced with a CD-ROM offering reconfigured construction company files to save setup time, and Job Cost Wizard, a program that swiftly and easily converts National Estimator estimates into QuickBooks Pro estimates.
CPA's opinion of Contractor's Guide to Quickbooks Pro.......2000-10-19
I consider this book to be the best on the market for contractors who use quickbooks. I recommend this to clients who use Quickbooks and are in the contstruction industry, or any other line of work that uses job costing. It has many illustrations which make it easy for bookkeepers for whom English is a second language.
The attached CD-ROM is a nice addition which can help contractors who are just getting started get their books set up quickly.

Principles of Supply Chain Management: A Balanced Approach
ASIN: 1881052931 |
Book Description
Supply Chain Optimization illustrates how companies that create, distribute, and sell products or services can join forces to establish a supply network with an unbeatable competitive advantage. Poirier and Reiter explain how companies can successfully employ partnering, rather than working on improvements in isolation, to identify high opportunity initiatives across a total supply network. By applying key resources on focused opportunities and sharing the resulting savings, members of the network get larger results, faster, as well as funding for future efforts.
Supply Chain Optimization offers survival tools for companies of all sizes. The authors describe consortiums, or "share groups," of smaller companies that can compete with the volume leverage of large corporations, superstores, and warehouse stores. By analyzing their shared supply chain and pooling their available resources, these consortiums can find hidden savings to protect their profit margins and remain competitive in today's marketplace.
The book includes case studies that show what a wide range of companies are actually doing to achieve supply chain optimization. Companies profiled include: Financing Division of General Electric, Dial Corporation, Proctor & Gamble, Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Navistar/Goodyear, Packaging Corporation of America, Dominick's, Hart Mountain Corporation, and General Motors--Saturn.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best!.......2001-10-17
This book is a "must-read" for anyone in the business of supply chain management! The partnering and networking chapters are well worth the price. Highly recommended!
Insightful!.......2001-03-27
Authors Charles C. Poirier and Stephen E. Reiter envision a trip down your supply chain like an effortless sail on calm seas. Your organization can reach this placid efficiency, they explain, by forming partnerships with suppliers and others in your business network. But the authors don't ask you to take their word; instead they present detailed case studies of companies that have implemented supply-chain optimization strategies and reaped prodigious benefits. The book's only flaw is its style. It is densely written and often weighed down by prose as murky as a rural delivery system and twice as difficult to penetrate. But we [...] recommend that business owners, corporate managers, executives and logisticians of all levels take the time required to patiently excavate the practical and pragmatic information that lies within.
Though repetitive, solid introduction to SC management.......1999-08-24
An informative guide to supply chain management, particularly for newcomers like myself. Introduction to the conceptual framework, relationship management issues and jargon are the key takeaways. A reader will be fully conversant on supply chain management matters after finishing the book.
As for shortcomings, this book could have been written in a third less print, the job of a disciplined editor. While I understand business books need some heft, brevity is under-rated in this category. Repetition is rampant in this book. After the much needed tightening, a chapter on supply chain management for new or smaller businesses would be a welcome addition.
That being said, I happily lend this book to friends and colleagues, the most practical compliment to a book's authors.
author chose wrong title... waste both time and money........1999-06-06
The authors chose the wrong title, I guess. I agree with first review that this book is not worth time nor money. How could we optimize problem with "verbal"? We all need "solutions" -not "suggestion", even though suggestion is transformed from solution. Still, quantitative analysis comes before explaination for optimization. Look for another book unless you want to spend somes bucks to get the book.
This book can be summarized in one page.......1998-12-11
The main point of this book is: all constituents in the supply chain must work together to achieve mutual benefits. This is repeated 2000 times with different words. Quite an accomplishment in verbosity, but certainly not worth the money. The authors introduce an outdated three-step model and introduce a fourth level, the supplier of the supplier, and call it a new "model", an insult to the reader's intelligence.

This book provides both fundamental principles of SCM as well as a set of guidelines to assist in practical application of SCM. It will be one of the first books on the market that deals exclusively with SCM and its application. Readers in the academic, management sciences, sales, marketing and government environments will find this book of particular interest.
Book Description
This book is a key to mastering the demand chain concept.
Book Description
Supply chain management has gained wide importance for companies that produce goods or services. Though it is well understood that shifting from the single company to the whole supply chain triggers the need for reorganization and reengineering, strategic management or organizational theories have not yet been incorporated in supply chain management. This volume addresses the intersection between organizational theory, strategic management and supply chain management. Within the 23 chapters of the book, 35 authors show how new concepts help companies and their suppliers and customers to coordinate efficiently the partners in a supply chain. The concepts and methodologies presented are illustrated with case studies from various industries and logistical services.

Book Description
The book provides a quick guide/review of organic chemical nomenclature rules. Organic Nomenclature: A Programmed Introduction provides correct, up-to-date nomenclature usage. It emphasizes the rules, styles, and details of IUPAC names -- such as punctuation and spacing -- which are used almost exclusively in Chemical Abstracts indexing. The book includes a separate treatment of functional group classes and combines coverage of aliphatic and aromatic compounds. It focuses more on systematic nomenclature than on unsystematic names that may have little use in the future. The fifth edition of Organic Nomenclature: A Programmed Introduction has been updated to incorporate recently revised IUPAC recommendations on organic chemical nomenclature. In addition, the information included in Chapter 15 of previous editions is now incorporated throughout this fifth edition. A valuable reference book for professional chemists seeking an up-to-date guide to correct nomenclature usage.
Customer Reviews:
A Fast Way to Learn Organic Nomenclature.......2007-09-24
I first found this book in its first edition about 35 years ago and have never forgotten how easy it made getting an A in Organic Chemistry. It is my most memorable textbook of all time. All I needed then was this book and an understanding of positive/negative attraction, and I did not need to grind over every reaction type in study time. I examined the molecules on my tests and easily figured out what they would do. Today's Organic Chemistry is a larger, more techical subject, but the first key is still nomencalture.
Now my child is grown and I'm back in college, taking a more advanced Organic Chemistry class to prepare for PhD study. I remembered the "programmed approach" and found the book again, delighted to discover a current edition. Once again, the book is enabling me to catch up quickly on nomenclature, the key to any subject.
It is light-weight so it goes with me anywhere, so I can study on the train to school. It also has nice easy steps, so I find I can still work on this when my mind is too tired from other study to absorb anything else.
The major key to this book's learning-accelerating power is its "programmed approach," emphasized in the first edition, but ignored in the current one, as the authors are used to it and have forgotten what a breakthrough this is. The "programmed approach" itself is something worth knowing about, as it is a real breakthrough in teaching, and should be applied to the rest of your subjects--especially the logical ones like mathematics and chemistry.
A programmed approach teaches you one small thing in a short paragraph and then asks you to figure out the answer to a simple question or two as you go along. The answer is usually obvious so you get it right, training your mind correctly. The answer key is right there so you check continually and keep yourself on track. This makes learning fun and fast.
Great for learning organic chemistry nomenclature.......2007-05-28
Organic chemistry nomenclature is required if one wishes to either communicate with synthetic chemists or read the research literature in this field. This is a workbook that will get you started toward understanding organic chemistry nomenclature quickly.
To have if you are a student in Organic Chemistry.......2007-04-26
Practice, practice, practice from the book. Perfect complement.
A Good Workbook.......1998-03-04
As the publisher says, this is a workbook. It basically contains very brief commentary along with lots of fill-in-the-blank questions. It is a good workbook; however, it is useful only as a workbook and is not a useful purchase if you are looking to supplement your organic chemistry reference materials. It is also really quite short for the price, approximately 120 pages excluding the index and answers.
Customer Reviews:
None better on the market.......1998-05-28
I use this text for my introductory organic chemistry course. Banks' book, while it is "old" and unglamorous, is both less expensive and a much better reference than Traynham's workbook "Organic Nomenclature." One excellent feature is that both correct and incorrect answers are explained. The text includes sections on natural products, on heterocycles, and on Chemical Abstracts, but does not include reactive intermediates.
The only drawback may be that Banks' coverage is too thorough! Some students find it intimidating, but I doubt they would be better-served by Traynham's book, the only alternative. And other students have told me they find it easy to use and useful.

Book Description
Recent developments in microelectronics technologies have created a great demand for interlayer dielectric materials with a very low dielectric constant. They will play a crucial role in the future generation of IC devices (VLSI/UISI and high speed IC packaging). Considerable efforts have been made to develop new low as well as high dielectric constant materials for applications in electronics industries. Besides achieving either low or high dielectric constants, other materials' properties such as good processability, high mechanical strength, high thermal and environmental stability, low thermal expansion, low current leakage, low moisture absorption, corrosion resistant, etc., are of equal importance. Many chemical and physical strategies have been employed to get desired dielectric materials with high performance. This is a rapidly growing field of science--both in novel materials and their applications to future packing technologies. The experimental data on inorganic and organic materials having low or high dielectric constant remail scattered in the literature. It is timely, therfore, to consolidate the current knowledge on low and high dielectric constant materials into a sigle reference source.
Handbook of Low and High Dielectric Constant Materials and Their Applications is aimed at bringing together under a sigle cover (in two volumes) all low and high dielectric constant materials currently studied in academic and industrial research covering all spects of inorgani an organic materials from their synthetic chemistry, processing techniques, physics, structure-property relationship to applications in IC devices. This book will summarize the current status of the field covering important scientific developments made over the past decade with contributions from internationally recognized experts from all over the world. Fully cross-referenced, this book has clear, precise, and wide appeal as an essential reference source for all those interested in low and high dielectric constant material.
