Price vs. Quality.......2002-03-07

Overall, I found the book pricey given the quality... The layout is also not as user friendly as other textbooks in the field. For every topic it does give an example, but does not always clearly outline the steps obtained to achieve the displayed solution. Not to mention the fact that there is almost one error in every larger example.

Sourcing Strategy is about sourcing as a long term strategic activity. Myopic purchasing management stops short with describing functional procedures and procedural innovations such as online order processing.

I'm a strategic sourcing professional and consult to numerous clients on the topic, however, all my knowledge and experience has come from "on the job" learning and experience. I decided to buy this book in order expand my knowledge and provide more structure to what I know. The content of the book is succint, however, most topics were covered in a very general and sparse capacity. In addition, I also found the text dry, technical and at some points, my eyes were plain crossing as I was trying to read what was being presented. It provides a very decent overview, but for someone who's been working in strategic sourcing for any number of years, I would suggest another book since this is very much an introductory text. It is also very theoretical, so if you are looking for the practical "how-to" of strategic sourcing, or anything relating more towards the process of strategic sourcing, look elsewhere.

Opening a Whole New Worldview.......2006-09-05

This book is not for the faint of heart or for those who want a cotton candy buisiness self-help book. This treatment of strategic sourcing provides the depth of theory and quantitative practice that enables the procurement professional to move from being a seat of the pants maverick to a professional matching opportunity to the appropriate sourcing instrument, vendor, and contract type.
This book opened my eyes to possibilities I knew existed, but around which had not been able to get my arms.

A significant drawback arises when one seeks to use the enclosed software application. Unfortunately, it not compatible with the current release of the Java runtime environment. So, that portion of the learning experience is disabled.

* Three lectures by the Harvard Law School professor examine legal positivism and natural law. In the course of his analysis Fuller discusses Kelsen's theory as a reactionary theory, and Hobbes' theory of sovereignty. He defines legal positivism as the viewpoint that draws a distinction "between the law that is and the law that ought to be..." (p.5) and interprets natural law as that which tolerates a combination of the two. He looks at the effects of positivism's continued influence on American legal thinking and concludes that law as a principle of order is necessary in a democracy.

This is an excellent reference book for a seasoned engineer and for project engineering managers. It is not a stand alone textbook for students, which may disappoint young professionals. However, what it lacks from a college textbook standpoint, the volume more than makes up for with very practical design and operating information for a wide variety of process equipment used throughout the CPI. It clearly has been written by a seasoned engineer who has extensive design and process experience. The book is a strong reference for process engineers and likely a good supplemental textbook for the more aggressive students of chemical engineering. Practicing engineers will find this to be a good volume to leaf through for ideas, additional resources to obtain more in-depth information on, and to troubleshoot operational problems with certain types of equipment, particularly heat exchangers. It is highly recommended for the practicing engineer.

As a student, I had come to appreciate M. Cheremisinoff work. What a shame he dared to sign such a "book". Presentation is lame, design informations is either basic or incomplete

Appreciations and wishes.......2000-09-16

Although I do not read this hanbook yet, I know the work of Professor Cheremisinoff and I hope that the specialized information supplied by the author will be a guidlines for the specialists in the field of chemical engineering. Also, I wish to obtain this valuable treatise for my personal and for students use.

At last, Monsieur Lambert is in English!.......2007-03-17

This is a wonderful little read, exquisitely illustrated by Jean-Jacques Sempe and brilliantly translated from the French by Anthea Bell. Sempe has to be one of the world's finest illustrators alive and he works wonders with just a traditional dip-pen and pot of india ink. His subtlety in both line and text is perfectly translated by Bell, who seems to be able to channel Sempe's humour.

Monsieur... Bean?.......2006-06-22

Monsieur is a thirty something young French executive at a prestigious corporation. We meet him as he moves into a new office following a promotion. The most treasured perk of his new job is a machine that makes excellent coffee.

Monsieur arrives early at meetings so that he can grab the most inconspicuous seat. He can't seem to get out of typing a manuscript his neighbour insists on dictating. And of course Monsieur insists on serving a guest coffee when he visits his office.

Is Monsieur a French version of Mr. Bean? Not quite. He does move in with his ex-girlfriend's parents following a soccer injury. They expressed worry, he took it as an invitation. (Why not?). Occasionally Monsieur works out an overly complicated way of solving a problem, for instance how he splits the check on a first date. But when push comes to shove, Mr. Bean is callous while Monsieur is at worst passively insensitive. Mr. Bean's solutions fail spectacularly while Monsieur's succeed discretely.

Unassuming and self-effacing, Monsieur goes through life quietly and successfully. He's not really clueless, he knows he could lose it all which is why he hides. And his escapes, whenever the world tries to intrude, had me in stiches. Hilarious.
