Author Stephen Nelson tells you how to record purchases and sales of mutual fund shares, for example, but doesn't attempt to argue for or against that kind of investing.

Nelson's instructions for using Quicken's numerous features are detailed, yet easy; they're typical of the Dummies series. He's chosen to back no-frills instructions--"Enter the check amount"--with explanatory text that deals with questions of formatting (Do I include the dollar sign?) and how to deal with unusual situations. This book would be better if Nelson had included advice on accounting for unusual transactions, such as options redemptions and short sales of shares, but what's here is more than adequate for someone with a couple of bank accounts, a mortgage, a credit card or two, and some simple investments. --David Wall

Misleading publication information.......2007-04-10

This is a book that is being promoted as a first edition, even though the first edition came out in 1996. If this is a second edition with significant updates and additions, then that should be made clear in the book description.

Excellent book.......2001-04-19

"The Geology of Fluvial Deposits.." is an outstanding book on this matter. Mr. Miall, as usual, has got to achieve the main and crucial points regarding fluvial environment. This book is the best reference on fluvial sedimentation I have ever read.

I got hooked on the BBC TV series "Changing Rooms" when it began showing on BBCA.

This is a great book in that it takes the reader one step further than the show - it actually shows Handy Andy at work instead of in the background.

He shows how to do various projects such as wallpapering, putting up shelves and even unblocking drains (which I needed last weekend), with step-by-step illustrations. He also advises on the various tools you should own (or use) with instructions on using them, some pitfalls you might encounter on your DIY and even some dangers with DIY by showing what can happen if you do it wrong.

In all, I recommend this book to the American reader. Long live Handy Andy

Can't beat the price of this 'handy' book! Easy to read and use. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a variety of financial tidbits. The CD that comes with the book provides in-depth information in a learning format on individual and business tax issues. This unique combination of quick facts and tables in the book, along with the extensive self-tutorial library of tax courses on the CD, puts this little book in a class of its own. Includes latest tax updates from the October 2004 Tax Acts. Excellent tool for accountants, insurance agents, financial advisors and tax preparers. The author suggests that the CD is an excellent staff training tool so I looked at the CD and was surprised to find the depth and breadth of the CD content that is already formatted with questions and answers. I have a friend that owns a small (but growing) tax practice and often comments that they need good on-going tax training for their staff (they have a high turnover rate). So, I recommended to him that they purchase this book and CD. You can even print out the course material. Talk about an inexpensive training course!
