Customer Reviews:
How to save on the cost of credit........2001-02-04
Everyone will use credit in their lifetime. Maybe to buy a house, car or paying for an education. This book outlines the procedures you should follow to ensure you get the cheapest credit avilable and not to overpay on money borrowed. And what to watch for so you don't obtain more credit than you can manage. There are many lending organizations that will encourage you to borrow more than you can pay back. These organizations want you to borrow so much that you will only be able to pay their high interest rates, but not be able to pay down on the amount borrowed. Consequently you are hooked. This book will help you avoid these pitfalls and teach you how to be a smart borrower.
Good advice for a credit abuser.......2001-01-29
This book helped me get my financial house in order. I was maxed out on four credit cards and needed some help. This provided a good start. Give this book a try if you are in over your head.

Book Description
The age of the real-time supply chain has finally arrived. Thanks to an emerging technology construct--the Internet-based "mega-portal"--companies can now connect instantaneously with suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, customers, and alliance partners around the world. Online access to up-to-the-minute information enables companies to improve communication and project management across the entire supply chain, promote collaboration across departments, and enhance customer service and financial operations. The results are stunning; for example, a recent survey reports dramatic increases in revenues and customer retention and decreases in operating costs and product cycle times. Drawing from extensive primary research, this book presents detailed examples of how organizations as diverse as Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Dell, and the U.S. Department of Defense are creating information and communication hubs online and reaping the rewards. The authors explain the basic technical and organizational infrastructure necessary for launching a mega-portal and how its successful management can have profound impact on every area and function of the extended enterprise--from strategy to logistics, product development to customer service. As competition heats up from every direction, the ability to design and manage your supply chain with precision and speed becomes a business imperative. In Real Time offers a practical blueprint for building, implementing, and sustaining supply chains in today's rapidly changing environment.

Project Execution Methodology -- Foundation Builder.......1999-11-23
I am about 50% through the book, and it has provided me with a good baseline approach to small & large projects. I have worked in process engineering, manufacturing, and process automation/control, but I have never professionally executed a chemical construction project. The book has everything you need to formalize a project execution methodology, including estimating rules-of-thumb and expected outcomes of each phase in the project. The only problem that I've seen is the author's repeated incorrect usage of the word "insure" -- in most cases, Pablo should have used "ensure". OK, so I'm picky..

Paperback. The study of planetary Ionospheres and Magnetospheres has advanced dramatically in the past two decades, both through careful and increasingly sophisticated analysis of data returned by space probes and through theoretical studies supplemented by extensive computer simulations. The thirty-one papers presented in this volume on planetary ionospheres and magnetospheres include papers on the ionospheres and magnetospheres of Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto and comet Halley. Papers are included that describe observations from many spacecraft missions to the planets and to small solar system bodies. This volume is divided into three sections dealing with: Venus and Mars, the gas giant planets with emphasis on Jupiter and the small bodies in the solar system (Pluto, Io, comets). In the first section the emphasis is on Mars (9 out of 11 papers), providing background relevant to some of the upcoming missions that will target this planet in the closing year

Customer Reviews:
A Good Starting Point.......2005-08-24
This book is a good introductory text for those who want to know more about the complex topic of climate change and "global warming". The book is easy to read and educational for those starting out in their examination of the field, though further reading on this topic will show that some of the core premises of the book are more contentious than the author seems to think.
A list of further readings is provided, though there are no sources listed for the arguments made by the aurthor, which can make it difficult for those who want to do their own fact-checking or to canvass alternative opinions. However, a whole (short) chapter is devoted to arguments against the impact of man and is consequences on the environment.
Unfortunately, like many modern texts on climate and the environment, the author seems wedded to the concept of biocentrality and "steady-state" systems, with no examination of the merits or pitfalls of such a position.
Still, overall, this book provides a good introduction to the general concepts and arguments around man's impact on global climate.
Some decent basic information but clearly biased. .......2005-05-06
This book has some good basic information but the author
isn't really interested in having anyone read views that
don't buy everything the leftist NGOs or the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations)
say (he states panelists are all "climatologists" which isn't true). He also states 100 Nobel Prize winners see global warming as a big problem caused by the "wealthy few." But most of these "winners" are not climate scientists and the Nobel Committee is very leftist oriented. In fact, the wealthier nations have the improving environments while poorer, socialist and communist nations (such as Zimbabwe) are usually worsening. His references for further reading don't include even one
so-called "skeptic" about global warming but includes Paul Ehrlich whose predictions have often been wrong. In the text, he briefly discusses Bjorn Lomborg with the clear implication he ISN'T an "environmentalist" which I doubt is true. He then doesn't bother to list Lomborg in the Index nor does he list the book as one to read though it has been widely praised. In his list of "Concerned Organizations," he lists every leftwing NGO but not one from those who have questioned the standard orthodoxy such as Cato or the American Enterprise Institute.
So, if you are interested in reading both sides of this issue,
here some suggestions for starters:
BOOKS: "The Collapse of the Kyoto Protocol," David Victor, Stanford University, published by the Council on Foreign Relations. "The Satanic Gases" and "Meltdown"(2004), Dr. Patrick J. Michaels, Univ. of Virginia. "The Environmental Case for Nuclear Power," Robert C. Morris. "The Heated Debate," Dr. Robert C. Balling (also co-authored "Satanic Gases"). "Ecoscam" and "Global Warming and Other Eco-Myths," Ronald Bailey. "Why Geography Matters" by Harm de Blij, noted geographer. "The Life and Death of Planet Earth" by Ward and Brownlee, Univ. of Washington. "Frozen Earth" by Douglas McDougall, U.C.-San Diego. "Hoodwinking the Nation" by Julian Simon and Lomborg's book which is simply amazing ("The Skeptical Environmentalist").
WEBSITES: www.sepp.org; www.worldclimatereport.com; www.techcentralstation.com/environment; www.envirotruth.org; www.lomborg.com; www.cato.org; Michael Crichton's website. There are many more but these are a good start.
Book Description
Winner of the Best Columnist of the Year at the British Liars' Awards, and Britain's finest satirist, O'Farrell takes dead aim in Global Village Idiot at cell phones, awards ceremonies, genetic sheep splicers, America's right-wing cabal of dunces, dunderheads, dimwits, and the Big "D" himself. With handkerchiefs masking their faces, two rioters roughly the height of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld kicked in the gates of the largest oilfield and grabbed the keys of the gasoline trucks. 'Yee-haw! It's all ours! Millions of barrels of the stuff,' they laughed. 'Yup!' added the leader, 'and this mask guarantees my anonymousinity!' So after all these years there really is such a person as the Thief of Baghdad. Except strangely his accent sounded vaguely Texan." A writer for the groundbreaking television show Spitting Image and contributor to the screenplay for the hit movie Chicken Run, O'Farrell's sharpest barbs and stingers have often been written to come out of the mouths of grotesque puppets and Claymation chickens, this time around he keeps the best lines for himself: 'With the election of the 43rd president of the United States, the global village is complete," O'Farrell writes. "It has its own global village idiot."
Book Description
Think outside the borders.
Global economics affects every aspect of our lives. Free trade agreements, tariffs, terrorism, trade deficits, international debt, global warming, OPEC, outsourcing, and sweat shops are just some of the forces driving our world, food supply, jobs, and future. The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Global Economics provides the key to understanding the various facts, figures, policies, and practices that offer insight into this dynamic subject.
Product Description
We eavesdrop on a game of checkers where a convoluted jumping sequence has been set up and the action is about to begin..... We let the first player make his move; his jumps - and therefore acquires a bunch of his opponent's checkers. We let the second player make his retaliatory move; he jumps - and therefore acquires a bunch of his opponent's checkers. They each savor the results for a moment, then one of them puts the situation into words: "I love this game because everybody wins. You took more checkers than me and I took more checkers than you..." In checkers, we can see the stupidity; in economics we cannot. But all that must change if we expect any semblance of a reasonably non-violent future. The basic problem is that we don't make money, we acquire money and, regardless of any obfuscating detours though our intertwined businesses and/or our multifariuos levels of government - we acquire it only from each other. Read this book. But let there be absolutely no misunderstanding, it is bitter bitter medicine. You won't like what you read; you won't believe what you read; but your children need you to read it.

Book Description
This is a book of contemporary humor. This book is a fiction. The author believes that God has given us the capability to be wise and dumb at the same time. Every person in this world can be an absolute genius and a total idiot. We all act brilliantly and foolishly in different situations. Don't we sometimes look at ourselves in retrospect and wish we had not acted the way we did?
We all have acted idiotically on many occasions, socially and professionally. Some of those moments are captured in this book.
Coming to America was a great cultural shock for the author. He found humor in people's interaction and in his own ignorance about the customs of the new land. Coming from a feudal system of work life to an open environment was another great adjustment for him. The author found humor in all those situations. He watched his fellow immigrants experimenting with new culture and still trying to maintain a link with the old. Some of their struggles are amusingly depicted in his stories.
The author observes world in its generality. He equally enjoys the substantial and the frivolous. The former fuels his intellect and the latter provides him fuel for living in the form of humor.
Customer Reviews:
Humor You Can Associate With.......2001-03-13
The Global Idiot is a rare book of humor. The stories inside make us think. Truly speaking, it's not offensive at all. It convinces us that we can act wisely and foolishly in different rcumstances. Musafir has depicted his own predicaments with superb ability in adopting America as his home and adjusting to the American work place. His observations are to the mark, funny and poignant. His depictions are brilliant. The book is divided in two parts, Social Scene and Work life. They are both full of laughter and brilliance. I am amazed at the brilliance of Musafir. No other storybook in recent time has made me laugh and think at the same time. It's clean, fun and worth reading.

A Bit Dated and You Do Really Need to Have Lived in Britain During the Late 90's.......2007-01-09
John O'Farrell is a humorous London newspaper column writer (similar to what Dave Barry and others in America do) and has put out quite a few books of collections of his columns. He has also written three (as of the date of this review) brilliant fiction masterpieces which you absolutely must check out.
The problem with Global Village Idiot is that a lot of the columns are about British political parties and what is happening at the time which dates this book very quickly and if you didn't live in Britain around then you really have no idea what these columns are on about. There are a few columns that those who don't fall under that category will understand and enjoy such as the introduction of pet passports on planes, Jeffery Archer, mad cow disease, George Bush winning presidency with less votes, computers, census and the topic of organ donation, but the majority of entries you really need to have been there and lived that. If you had done that I have no doubt you would rate this book four or five stars but if like me you haven't your enjoyment factor is not going to quite at the level.
Not to be missed.......2004-01-02
This is one amazing book. It is basically a collection of weekly pieces written by John O' Farrell for the Guradian.
John O has been a comic scriptwriter on the Spitting Image series and also has a turn with Chicken Run and his brilliant wit shines through. This book is chock-a-block with laugh out loud moments and you just keep going back to the passages to be tickled again. His writing is very low-key and the humour is subtle but it is so sharp the victims bleed!
Not knowing who John O was, I picked up the book during my adventorous phase in reading and was aware that I had stumbled on a treasure. He is a Labour (Current party headed by Tony Blair) supporter and indeed a small time politico himself. His sharpest barbs are reserved for the Tory's (the only opposition in Britain) and all their leaders past and present. And these are howlingly funny. Altough the politics of the British nation might be alien to most readers, this should prove no impediment to understanding, what at the core, is a savagely humorous book.
What also shines through is the innate humanism of the author especially in pieces like the one where he talks of the culture of charity in the country and his stand on racism. Also, his subtle character sketches of people like Jeffrey Archer are worth their weight is gold.
This is a must read for anyone attempting to understand the British political and cultural landscape and anyone who hasn't laughed out loud in a while. Go get it !!
