Markets are one of the most salient institutions produced by humans, and economists have traditionally analyzed the workings of the market mechanism. Recently, however, economists and others have begun to appreciate the many institution-related events and phenomena that have a significant impact on economic performance. Examples include the demise of the communist states, the emergence of Silicon Valley and e-commerce, the European currency unification, and the East Asian financial crises.

In this book Masahiko Aoki uses modern game theory to develop a conceptual and analytical framework for understanding issues related to economic institutions. The wide-ranging discussion considers how institutions evolve, why their overall arrangements are robust and diverse across economies, and why they do or do not change in response to environmental factors such as technological progress, global market integration, and demographic change.

Excellent structured book.......2006-07-17

I would like to recomend this book that helped immensely to our study group to approve the third exam on the CPIM certification from APICS, also the presentations in flash that are in its website, is an excellent aid for a better comprenhension of the topics and very helpfull when explaining to groups.

Too Complicated.......2004-06-25

This book is too complicated and not well-written. Reading this book feels like reading a science or an engineering book more than a management book. It's focusing on mathematical formulas in a very high level of detail, which the reader finds uselss. I found myself skipping a lot of pages; the pages I skipped are definitly more than ones I read. The only reason I bought this book is because it's a CPIM required source. You are probably checking this book out for the same reason. I hope by the time you read my review, CPIM will decide to eliminate this book from its list of required sources.

Not only is this a wonderful book for the coffee table it is detailed in materials, techniques, and decorations of baskets from around the world. Easilly identifiable photos of baskets as well as great photos of the weavers. Recommend this book to anyone interested in weaving, baskets, and ethnic handicrafts.

Eye candy - a MUST for all basket makers and enjoyers.......2002-12-23

Any basket maker or collector will enjoy and appreciate this book, and frankly their library will not be complete without it. Colorful and just packed with photographs, graphically stimulating and full of information about baskets and basket making around the world. I cherish my copy, and find it has inspired me to look again at the "average" and "use" baskets in my home - not just those in my collection. A worthy gift!
