3 out of 5 stars Won't tell you where to get stuff to sell on eBay..........2007-03-16

I got this in an all out attempt to find out where to buy things for resale on eBay. This is simply a list of thousands of manufacturers, with something after the name, address and phone number of the company like "furniture", or "chemicals". It does not contain the listings for most of the consumer products you want to sell. If this is why you are thinking of buying this you will be very disappointed. I returned my copy to Amazon.

1 out of 5 stars This is just a fancy phonebook!.......2000-09-22

I bought this book and while it looks nice sitting on a bookshelf, the information inside was not helpful at all. If you are looking for more than just a company name and address, don't waste your time. My local phone book had more entries for wholesalers in my local area than this book had for the whole United States. You will be better off searching trade magazines and trade related websites for information. I was so disappointed, I returned it for a refund.

This directory has proved to be a very valuable asset. I own a small importing business and found this directory invaluable in my search to expand my business nationwide. By breaking down the listings by product, it helps us to concentrate our efforts were they will do the most good

        5 out of 5 stars A Helpful Book.......2000-04-05

This directory is very helpful in finding the wholesalers. I've just started an on-line retailer on the Internet and this directory became my very first business tool. Without this book, I would not have been able to find wholesalers that I'd been looking for. Great directory! Highly Recommended.

                        Book Description

The study of soil nitrogen has long been an active field, but it was generally pivoted on agricultural and forestry production, and animal husbandry. With the rapid increase in the use of fertilizer nitrogen, more attention has been paid to the relationship between nitrogen management and environmental quality and human health. In addition, the study of soil nitrogen has become more comprehensive with the development of related sciences. The quantitative study of the processes of nitrogen cycling and their interrelationships has been an important part of this project and has attracted the attention of scientists all over the world.
Nitrogen is one of the most important nutrients for plant growth and the application of fertilizer nitrogen is playing an important role in agricultural production. The annual consumption of fertilizer nitrogen in the world has reached 70 million tons, and China has an annual consumption of more than 15 million tons and is the largest fertilizer nitrogen consumer in the world. However, the efficiency of fertilizer nitrogen is low and losses are large. It is estimated that nitrogen losses from agriculture in China can be as high as 40-60% of the nitrogen applied. Some of the lost nitrogen enters the atmosphere and contributes to the greenhouse effect and some enters water bodies to pollute the water. Consequently, it is important for scientists all over the world to improve the efficiency of use of fertilizer nitrogen, to promote the biological fixation of nitrogen and to increase the nitrogen-supplying potential of soils.

                          Description:
A Chinese fir forest (Cunninghamia lanceolata, CL) and a secondary evergreen broadleaved forest (BF) located in Fujian Province, south-eastern China, were examined before clear-cutting to compare their ecosystem carbon and nitrogen pools (above- and below-ground tree, understorey vegetation and forest floor biomass+0-100cm mineral soil layer). The ecosystem pools of C and N in the CL before clear-cutting were 257Mgha^-^1 and 8605kgha^-^1, respectively. The corresponding values for the BF were 336Mgha^-^1 of C and 10,248kgha^-^1 of N. For the two forests, most of the C was in the trees, whereas most of the N pool was in the soil. C and N pools in understorey vegetation and forest floor were small in the two forests (about 2% of ecosystem pools). During clear-cutting, 117Mgha^-^1C and 307kgha^-^1N in stem wood with bark and coarse branches (>2cm) were removed from the CL compared to 159Mgha^-^1C and 741kgha^-^1N from the BF. Two days after slash burning, C removal from logging residues (including forest floor material) was estimated at 10Mgha^-^1 for CL and 23Mgha^-^1 for BF, and N removal was 233 and 490kgha^-^1 in the CL and BF, respectively. Compared with the pre-burn levels in the CL, contents of topsoil organic C and total N 2 days after burning were reduced by 17 and 19%, respectively. In the BF, the corresponding proportions were 27% (C) and 25% (N). Our results indicate that clear-cutting and slash burning had caused marked short-term changes in ecosystem C and N in the two forests. How long these changes will persist needs further study.

                            Description:
Effects of excessive fertilizer and manure applications on the soil environment were compared in greenhouse vegetable systems shifted from wheat-maize rotations 5-15years previously and in wheat-maize rotations. N, P and K surpluses to the greenhouses were 4328, 1337 and 1466kgha^-^1year^-^1, respectively compared to 346, 65 and -163kgha^-^1year^-^1 to wheat-maize fields. Subsequently, substantial mineral N and available P and K accumulated in the soil and leaching occurred down the soil profile in the greenhouses. Soil pH under vegetables was significantly lower than in the wheat-maize fields, while the EC was significantly higher in the vegetable soils. The mean Cd concentration in the vegetable soils was 2.8 times that in the wheat-maize rotations. Due to excessive fertilizer application in greenhouse vegetable production in northeast China, excessive salt and nitrate concentrations may accumulate and soil quality may deteriorate faster than in conventional wheat-maize rotations.

                              Description:
The emission of NO was parameterized using empirical relationships with landuse type, fertilization rate and soil temperature. Eight landuse types (including four arable lands) were considered. Fertilization rates were distinguished for different regions and crops. A typical summer period of July in 1999 was chosen for detailed calculations. The total NO emission in the July is 141.1 Gg N, with 73.7% from arable lands and 22.0% from grasslands. The highest emission intensity can be more than 40 ng N m^-^2 s^-^1 in the heavily fertilized North China Plain, and the average of the whole lands is 6.5 ng N m^-^2 s^-^1. The annual emission was roughly estimated to be 657 Gg N, about 11.7% of the global total (5600 Gg N, reported by IPCC in 2000), and about 12.5% of the anthropogenic origin in China. Our results were compared with some earlier findings, and uncertainties were discussed.

                                Description:
Nutrient availability regulates the responses of high-latitude ecosystems to climate change but nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur biogeochemistry, especially, phosphorus and sulfur cycles, are poorly understood in Alpine tundra ecosystem. This study examines the cycling of nutrients in a 302-year-old Alpine tundra ecosystem in which litter has accumulated through compartment methods. Samples of the vegetation, litter and soil components were collected and chemically analyzed for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S). Overall, nutrient budgets for N, P and S pool sizes were determined. Although there were large reserves of N (24,640kghm^-^2), P (5860kghm^-^2) and S (10,018.7kghm^-^2) in soil layers (0-20cm), the nutrient reserves within the litter and fine roots within surface soil layer (0-10cm) were well balanced, indicating that a tightly closed plant-litter-soil-plant nutrient cycle was in operation for the cycling of N, P and S. The litter helped the retention of as many nutrients as possible in Alpine tundra system.

The objectives of our research were to describe the seasonal patterns in soil inorganic N and microbial biomass N and to assess the rates of net N mineralization and net nitrification in 29-year-old Mongolian pine (Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica) stands in the south-eastern area of Keerqin Sand Lands, China. The concentrations of soil ammonium-N (NH"4^+-N), nitrate-N (NO"3^--N), and inorganic N as well as the rates of net N mineralization and net nitrification clearly showed seasonal patterns of a bell shape from April to October. However, the seasonal patterns were less obvious for microbial biomass N. Higher NO"3^--N concentrations were found in the unfenced, grazed stand and higher NH"4^+-N concentrations were found in the fenced, ungrazed stand. The rate of cumulative net N mineralization was 55.4kgha^-^1year^-^1 in the fenced stand and 33.0kgha^-^1year^-^1 in the unfenced stand. Of the annual net N mineralization in the fenced stand, only 33.2% was nitrified to NO"3^--N, whereas in the unfenced stand, 62.2% was nitrified. Apparently, N availability components in Mongolian pine stands were significantly affected by the two different management options. Our results suggest that a deficiency in N availability to these Mongolian pine plantations happens in the early part of the annual growing season.

                                    Description:
Ansai is a county characterized by hilly loess relief that experiences all problems typical to the Loess Plateau of northern China, such as population pressure, soil loss, over-use of marginal lands, and poverty and food insecurity problems. Alleviation of these problems needs an integrated consideration of different objectives. To learn about the potentials and limitations of agricultural development and conflicts between objectives, this study conducted a systematic and trade-off analysis of different policy objectives, based on a land use optimization model (linear programming) integrating biophysical, agro-technical and socio-economic information. The results can serve two purposes, i.e., to reveal the solution space for each of the objectives and to analyze trade-off relationships between pairs of objectives. The information also forms the basis for further scenario analysis in which several objectives are considered simultaneously. The study results show that from an agro-technical point of view large opportunities exist to reduce the serious soil losses induced by crop cultivation on marginal lands, while still achieving food self-sufficiency. This can be achieved by reducing the area of marginal farmlands and efficient use of the most suitable land units, or/and by use of soil conservation measures (terracing and agro-techniques of furrow-ridging, residue mulching and rotational cropping with alfalfa). In general, achieving soil loss control was largely in agreement with improving production efficiency. However, the goal for maintenance of employment in agriculture strongly conflicted with environmental and productivity objectives. An increase of employment was associated with a distinct increase of (marginal) land area to be used for cropping, soil loss, total production cost and use of agro-chemicals, but with an almost linear decrease of labor productivity. The trade-off results also indicated that for a specific objective, a small deviation from its optimum value could result in a great improvement for most other objectives. These so-called nearly optimum solutions could be appealing alternatives to stakeholders. The study suggests that to promote a sustainable development in Ansai, policies are needed that stimulate efficient resource use and create opportunities for off-farm employment and income.

                                      Description:
Vegetation uptake of nitrogen and base cations may be an important source of soil acidity. In this study, the uptake rate of nitrogen and base cations was estimated for each major vegetation type in China. Although the uptake rates of most vegetation types are lower than 2.0 keq ha^-^1 a^-^1, great variations exist because of the significant differences in net primary productivity and elemental composition. Uptake rates decreased gradually from southeast to northwest, except for the wide-distributed agricultural areas in the east of China, where the nitrogen and base cation uptake rates are near zero. It is evident that this pattern coincides well with the distribution of the annual mean precipitation. However, the geographical distribution of the base cation uptake rate is not entirely the same as that of nitrogen, which indicates the importance of soil conditions in determining the chemical component and hence the uptake rate of different vegetation. The acidity input caused by vegetation uptake is quite high (>0.5 keq ha^-^1 a^-^1), and even higher than the current acid deposition and the alkalinity produced by soil weathering in some areas, which indicates that the growth of the plants may contribute significantly to the soil acidification problem in China.

Even after 15 years of its original publication, this book is THE most complete reference concerning the application of advanced random functions in earth science problems. Unlike most statistics books, it combines a deep understanding of both statistics and earth sciences. I used it for many years in my research and now, at its very low price, I use it in my courses as well. Kudos!!!

                                                        Book Description

The book provides a review of the hadronic final state measurements at HERA in deep inelastic scattering. It covers general event properties, particle spectra, heavy flavours, jets, event shape measurements, QCD instantons and small-x physics. The emphasis is on experimental results, providing quick access to the data (complete up to fall 1997) for reference. The results are discussed in the context of QCD.

The theory of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is "particle physics in a nutshell" and as such is interesting, exciting and difficult. The current precision of the experimental value for this quantity, improved significantly in the past several years due to experiment E821 at Brookhaven National Laboratory, is so high that a large number of subtle effects not relevant previously, become important for the interpretation of the experimental result. The theory of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is at the cutting edge of current research in particle physics and includes multiloop calculations in both QED and electroweak theory, precision low-energy hadron physics, isospin violations and scattering of light by light. Any deviation between the theoretical prediction and the experimental value might be interpreted as a signal of an as-yet-unknown new physics. This book provides a comprehensive review of the theory of the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

Nothing is as it appeared to be! All of their lives the now grown sisters believed that their father was an alcoholic, their mother a long-suffering wife. Yet now, in planning their mother's funeral, Faith, Honor, and Chastity discover that much of what they believed about their parents and each other is untrue. Did their mother give them their burdensome names in order to please their rich, pious grandmother? And, if all that money existed, why was Chastity, the last born, the only one to attend college? In fact, where is mother's last will and testament, and can the sisters expect to share equally? This is the funny/sad story of competition, misinformation, and misunderstanding among siblings. It is also an insightful peek into America's funeral customs, and the “squeeze” that occurs when families, within a matter of days, must balance time, love, obligation, and money when Putting Mother Down.

My father moped around the house, picking things up, then putting them right back down again. My mother knitted sweater after sweater, while gazing, teary-eyed, at the wall opposite her armchair. I knew my mother was knitting to keep herself busy, to cover up the pain.
