Book Description

Tax for Teens is specifically written for teenagers. It depicts teens that have a job working after school and in the Summer. Great for students and teachers! Very practical!.......2003-08-22

I used this book as the centerpiece of a four-week unit in my Consumer Math class and found it to be highly effective. My students were much more interested than I thought they would be because "taxes" sounds so boring. We worked through the chapters together and it spurred a lot of discussion. The book is written in a very direct, easy-to-follow format and includes lots of practical examples. The writing has a conversational, edgy quality to it that connects with the kids.

Once we finished the book, my students started bringing in their own W-2s and were doing their own taxes in class. Most of them were shocked to learn that they had to file a tax return, even though they were under 18, and that they could get money back if they did so.

The funny thing is, I learned a lot about the subject too. I understood the basics of filling out tax forms, but never gave much thought to the "whys." This book explains the reasons behind the rules. I actually had other teachers ask to borrow it "for their own children."

In short, I found the book to be easy to read and use while providing valuable information for ANYONE who wants to learn some basics about income tax.

I am using this book for my freshman year chemistry students who wish to major in allied health science field like nursing or dentistry.There is appropriate material for these students. The special feature "perspectives" relates the chemistry to everyday life and helps to increase the interest in chemistry. The problems solving strategy helps the students to make problem solving easy.Overall this book helps students better understand many things happening around the world.

Here, we reconstruct the varying influence of the Agulhas Current (AgC), the South Atlantic Current and the Antarctic Circumpolar Current on the Agulhas Retroflection (AgR) in the eastern South Atlantic Ocean for the last 160,000 years on the basis of the dinoflagellate cysts, pollen and spores present in a sediment core (GeoB 3603-2) from the southeastern Cape Basin offshore South Africa, where the Agulhas Current enters the Atlantic Ocean. Our analyses reveal strong orbital forcing on the heat exchange between the Indian Ocean and the South Atlantic Ocean during the Late Quaternary. Maxima in local productivity appear to be primarily related to a strengthening of the ocean circulation as a result of the high seasonal contrast during precession maxima. During precession minima, seasonal contrast was low and stratified, oligo- to mesotrophic conditions prevailed, notably when these minima coincided with the glacial terminations. The clear presence of periodicities on a sub-Milankovitch scale as well as modulations of the primary frequencies demonstrate that the Agulhas Retroflection furthermore is modulated substantially by complex interactions between the subtropical, 'precession-driven', climate and ocean circulation systems, and the southern, 'obliquity-driven', high latitudes.
