Customer Reviews:
Good book to read when you are considering your options.......2007-05-17
My husband and I had already filed for bankruptcy when I came across this book, so a lot of the advice given about contemplating bankruptcy didn't apply to us. However, her explanation of the bankruptcy process really helped us understand what we were getting into (and out of). I would definitely recommend this book to a reader who doesn't know what to do with their financial situation.
Great Legal Information.......2004-11-30
There are three great books on the market today and I say don't shop around any more. The two best bankruptcy books on the market have been written by women. I purchased Peggy Palm's book first and found it very informative and insightful. I'm attempting to the stop foreclosure of my home. I then purchased Tiffany Love's book, surviving financial disasters, to get the bankruptcy forms on CD Rom and then learned that she too filed for bankruptcy and included her legal pleadings. If you want to stop foreclosure, get Ms. Love's book for sure as it is "hands on", but I find myself frequently referring back to the information in Peggy's to gain an additional perceptive. Money Troubles is another great book that provides wonderful information and exceeds the scope of Peggy's book, because it covers everything inside and out of bankruptcy, like Tiffany's book. Which some people I think may find too technical, but if you're doing battle like I am with creditors the information is right on target. All three will cost you less than $100 far less than an attorney's consultation fee. My verdict: Peggy's book for the legal advice, Tiffany's book for insight and roadmap, Money Trouble for everything else even after bankruptcy. The others are crap!
Excellent for Debtors.......2004-07-20
This book is for anyone contemplating bankruptcy. Peggy Palms does an excellent job of describing, to the debtor, the ins and outs of filing bankruptcy. This is the first book of its kind that helps debtors (not creditors) understand the bankruptcy process without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. I would recommend this book to ANYONE experiencing financial problems. It releived a tremendous amount of stress from my life and gave me hope. Peggy Palms is wonderful.
The Bankruptcy Solution.......2003-10-25
Sunday I purchased six books on Bankruptcy, read this one first and didn't bother reading the others. It was so real, truthful, and as we say in the Caribbean, down to earth, connotating a Holistic coverage. This book will help me as I work to fight for bankrutpcy reform in my country. I recommend it anyone facing financial problems or wanting to know more about bankruptcy from the perspective of an experienced, practicing attorney who seems to care about people in trouble.
A Real Page-Turner..........2003-09-13
If you or anyone you know is considering filing for bankruptcy, "The Bankruptcy Solution" is a must read! It stands out from the few others I have purchased/read because it answers almost every question one may have regarding Chapters 7 and 13. Also, Ms. Palms addresses bankruptcy matters with a no-nonsense, dignfied attitude. Other books make the reader feel shameful about bankruptcy issues, whereas "The Bankruptcy Solution" gives one hope for life after a BK. After reading this page-turner, you will hold your head high. My only regret is that Ms. Palms is unable to represent me(I live across the country from where she practices)!
Book Description
Most books on inventory theory use the item approach to determine stock levels, ignoring the impact of unit cost, echelon location, and hardware indenture.
Optimal Inventory Modeling of Systems is the first book to take the system approach to inventory modeling. The result has been dramatic reductions in the resources to operate many systems - fleets of aircraft, ships, telecommunications networks, electric utilities, and the space station.
Although only four chapters and appendices are totally new in this edition, extensive revisions have been made in all chapters, adding numerous worked-out examples. Many new applications have been added including commercial airlines, experience gained during Desert Storm, and adoption of the Windows interface as a standard for personal computer models.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Technical Book.......2005-09-08
Great Book for PhD students and Master's students, or managers wishing to understand this topic. Sherbrooke really cuts through the technical side of scholarly papers and gives the reader the important facts pertaining to inventory problems. Don't expect a full Inventory text book. He focuses on low demand spare parts systems. Excellent
Thorough treatment of multi-echelon,multi-indenture models........1999-06-24
Excerpted from the original Logistics Spectrum review by Dr. Jezdimir Knesevic, 1993
The book is written for the logistician who is concerned with the achievement of the required operational availability of systems, and whose main objective and responsibility is to make decisions related to inventory items, item location and investment in spares. The optimization methodology developed considers trade-offs between stock at the operating locations and supporting depots (also called the multi-echelon problems), and between stock levels for an item and its sub-items (also called the multi-indenture problems). All models developed are on an analytical nature, which provides the decision-maker with an efficient tool for the determination of optimal stockage policies.
The philosophical concepts of the book are addressed in Chapter 1, followed by the corresponding mathematical techniques in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 covers the mathematics related to the joint optimization of stock levels at operating and stockage/supporting bases. The estimation of demand rates that do not stay constant is considered in Chapter 4, where the negative binomial is used as a model, together with models that are based on the Poisson distribution (variance-to-mean ratios equal to one). The mathematics for a multi-echelon, multi-indenture optimization are developed in Chapter 5. The problem concerning periodic resupply for repairable items is addressed in Chapters 6 and 7. The associated concept is subsequently illustrated through an example application related to the Space Station Freedom. The main subject of Chapter 8 is the cannibalization problem and the associated mathematics. The last chapter, Chapter 9, of the textbook is dedicated to practical real-world problems relating to modeling and application of models, where both advantages and disadvantages are analyzed.
Undoubtedly, a book of of such great integrity deserves a place on the shelf or any person, library, or organization whose interests lie in the domain of inventory theory and its application to complex systems.

A niche-defining and filling book!.......2002-02-12
John House's Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics, 1st ed., is a delightful book to have in one's collection. The handy size and paper binding give it a "field-guide-ish" quality, making the study and review of quantum mechanical fundamentals practical almost anywhere.
His depth and breadth of coverage are solid. I particularly like his end-of-chapter references, as he includes some introductory chemistry and physics texts, in addition to the standards. In this way, his text functions as a true bridge between freshman chemistry and upper level undergraduate/first year graduate chemistry.
I give Dr. House's Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics a rating of three stars for the following three reasons: 1. solutions to the problems would benefit many students/readers traversing this bridge, 2. the name differential equations in chapter six are all second order, first degree, ordinary, homogeneous, linear differential equations with variable coefficients; curious students/readers may get frustrated when they don't find the solutions to these equations in mathematical references under non-linear differential equations, and 3. the treatment of angular momentum could be increased a bit. Dr. House's Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics is a gem; adding problem solutions and an amended differential equation terminology to a second edition might set it in gold.

Good Understanding.......1999-12-22
The book itself is very good. It goes in depth with Quantum Mechanics, but fails to state alot of the variables leaving you to guess them for youself. Other than that it has all the basic and complex equations dealing with Quantum Physics.

Broad range of topics/Terrible at almost everything.......2003-04-13
This book covers everything you should know as a quantum chemist. It would be a great reference, except that it is totally unclear about what it's talking about. To understand what McWeeny means, you need to look up every reference. Things that should take 2 hours to understand will take you 2 weeks.
I have focused largely on his treatment of response functions, and let me say: what a mess! He actually calls certain operations A(w) even though A is indpt of w. It's terribly confusing and very unnecessarily so. I ended uphaving to white out parts of it and make many corrections just to understand what in the world he was talking about. There are also lots of mistakes...

Customer Reviews:
Good, but not great.......2005-12-31
If you are looking for an introductory text for Quantum Chemistry, well, here it is. Lowe understands something very important about writing introductory texts, something that most authors don't grasp. That being that an introductory text isn't simply a book that talks about the foundations of the given subject, but also speaks to someone who is inexperienced in the subject. Lowe has this down to almost an art; most subjects are sufficiently explained with little fluff or unneccesary technical jargon. The book isn't quite as expanse as say, McQuarrie's Physical Chemistry, but what is? The essentials are explained with the neccesary depth and any mathematics involved are explained in the Appendices. The book stumbles when Lowe tries to explain more qualitative ideas, like LCAO. Without the structure of mathematics, the book seems to falter quite a bit. After several readings, I still had no idea what Lowe was talking about in the latter sections of chapter 7. Neverless, this is a pretty strong text.
Excellent!.......2004-05-04
As an undergraduate chemistry student of Dr. Lowe's at Penn State University, I have learned from his book while taking his course and have found it to be an invaluable resource. Dr. Lowe's presentation is very easy to follow and learn from. I recommend this book to anyone who is taking quantum mechanics. I am taking a graduate level quantum chemistry course next semester, and feel adequately prepared.
A very good book...........2002-09-06
I am perhaps marginally biased towards Lowe's book, I used it as an undergraduate taking graduate quantum chem with a very fine lecturer. Lowe's book is intended for a general introduction to quantum chemistry & molecular orbital theory - this is a book that will be kept and used even by those chemists who are not physical and/or theoretical chemists. He emphasizes the basics and physical understanding over developing the material in a more pure mathematical fashion. As for the list of errors that the previous reviewer mentioned, I can only wonder if those same errors were the ones corrected on the errata sheet that was handed out to me in class. As I'm finally in graduate school taking quantum again, we're using Levine's text as well as Fayer's text. I think Lowe has prepared me beautifully by having instilled the big picture in my head.
If you're really serious about your Q.M., you'd supplement with a physics text anyway (Shankar, Merzbacher, Liboff, etc). But that's more for clearing up the physics details than anything else, IMHO.
Review of Lowe's Quantum Chemistry.......2002-03-04
I'm currently finishing up a self-directed course on quantum chemistry. My two principle sources are Lowe's book and Levine's book, and I find that the combination works fairly well. Unlike Levine, Lowe is not a precise writer and often skips details. I have also found mathematical and conceptual mistakes in some parts. You might not notice them in a quick read through but under close scrutiny they present a problem. He's definitely more a chemist than a physicist... The end result is that if I try to read his book first, I inevitably become confused. However, where he shines is in bringing together the big picture in words *once you've already understood the details*. Thus my typical strategy is to read Levine to get a wonderfully detailed and accurate lesson, and then read the same topic in Lowe to bring it all together. If I had to buy only one, Levine is definitely the way to go.
If I could understand this book, it must be good........2001-12-16
I used this book for guided independent study in my senior year as a Chemical Engineering undergraduate.
To learn from this book is easy. Lowe does a great job integrating the mathematics into his work. Some authors tend to get bogged down in math, and others (in my mind incorrectly) insist that you don't need to understand the math to understand quantum chemistry. Lowe strikes the right balance and shows what the mathematics mean, chemically. Additionally, the excercises are well written and useful. Including solutions to some of the excercises is a must for a book of this level, and I'm glad to see it done here.
Two complaints: Some color diagrams would make for easier visualization of some of the more difficult topics...and more efforts at introducing computer software commonly used in quantum chemistry (eg. Gaussian) would have been nice.
All in all, a good book, much better than most quantum chemistry texts available.

Weird Western New York.......1999-12-19
As a native and former inhabitant of the Buffalo area with an avid interest in the Paranormal, I bought this book with high expectations and wasn't disappointed. Winfield's extensive research and obvious passion on the subject of odd and paranormal places in Western New York brings the stories alive. From Old Fort Niagara to the Roycroft, Winfield does a good job of condensing each subject into a few pages. Although many of the locations and stories were familiar to me, Winfield managed to inject a lot of new and interesting information into the book. The book is fascinating and an easy read. Just enough flowery prose to give a punch and the language is easily understandable. The only objection I have to the book was that Winfield could have gone a bit more in depth. It was almost as if his publisher limited the length of the book. I'm hoping Winfield writes a Shadow of the Western Door II and delves deeper into the many mysteries in Western New York.

Book Description
Reviewing the German edition of this book in Physics Today, the physicist Ira M. Freeman writes as follows:
"Professor Hermann's book makes it apparent that the history of the early years of quantum theory differs markedly from the sketchy, oversimplified chronicle that many of us accept and recount to our students.... [The book] is an exceedingly well-documented ac.count of the first fifteen years of the quantum idea. It takes the reader from Planck's presentation of his theory of black-body radiation, in a talk before the Berlin Physical Society on December 14, 1900, to Bohr's quantum description of the hydrogen atom in March, 1913.
"The author, formerly engaged in high-energy physics research in Hamburg, is now Professor of the History of the Natural Sciences and Technology at Stuttgart University. He is the editor of a recently compiled collection of the Einstein-Sommerfeld correspondence. In writing the present book he made use of the wealth of microfilmed material available in the 'Sources for the History of Quantum Physics,' as well as valuable documents and letters in private collections left by Stark, Haas, Sommerfeld, and others.
"The book is arranged according to the work of the eight greatest contributors to the theory: Planck, H. A. Lorentz, Einstein, Stark, Haas, Sommerfeld, Nernst, and Bohr each get a chapter. This ordering by men rather than by ideas makes for some repetition, but it is not troublesome. The author's intention is to make possible the reading of anyone chapter independent of the rest. A comprehensive list of literature references is appended to each chapter.
"Hermann maintains that one can attain a true understanding of a theory only by personally following the thought process that led to its establishment -- the path taken by the great innovators themselves. His book proves to be an effective guide in this quest."
Of particular interest in this account is the fact that the radical concepts of a few physicists, who were prepared to accept genuinely revolutioniary changes in their science, were initially resisted by most of the established academicians. For example, Arthur Erich Haas, whose main interest at that time (1910) was in the history of science, submitted the first paper applying the quantum idea to the atom, anticipating Bohr's publication by three years. His effort was dismissed as a "carnival joke," or as a naive blunder.
Shortly after this, however, the quantum revolution was won, the "outsiders" who had supported it became universally respected, and the theory itself became "respectable," There were many reasons for this, including of course the weight of experimental evidence, but the author shows that personal considerations played a part, Among these was the young Einstein's influence on Arnold Sommerfeld (whose "idea of recreation was to talk physics all day with Einstein") and the latter's prestige within the scientific establishment.
By 1913, on the basis of Rutherford's discovery of the planetary structure of the: atom, Bohr was able to formulate his application of quantum ideas to atomic phenomena, His development of a model for the hydrogen atom provided a mechanism that explained the distribution of spectral lines. The triumph was complete: the first phase in the genesis of quantum theory was decisively closed.

Book Description
Edna Goldberg often finds herself exasperated by her husband, Henry, and his unconventional behavior. Henry enjoys his antics thoroughly and loves to annoy his proper, strong-willed wife. Thus begins a marital struggle of miscommunication, circumstance, and sometimes embarrassing situations. Like any married couple, Henry and Edna have their nuances. Henry's slow driving habits and his tendency to roll his hankie up in the car window to dry are enough to make Edna want to shove him out the door. Henry must contend with his wife's snoring and hogging up the bed, but through it all they still love each other, and in spite of everything, reminisce about their wedding and how their life together all got started. Though they encounter many minor mishaps, they wed at last and live happily ever after-for the most part.
