October 1991. It was "the perfect storm"—a tempest that may happen only once in a century—a nor'easter created by so rare a combination of factors that it could not possibly have been worse. Creating waves ten stories high and winds of 120 miles an hour, the storm whipped the sea to inconceivable levels few people on earth have ever witnessed. Few, except the six-man crew of the Andrea Gail, a commercial fishing boat tragically headed toward the storm's hellish center.

Demographic Trends and Patterns in the Soviet Union Before 1991
Wolfgang Lutz Manufacturer: Routledge ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0415101948 |
Book Description
The former Soviet Union entered the twentieth century as a conglomerate of lifestyles, religions, and cultures. During the course of the century, socioeconomic development started at different times and proceeded differently in different regions and in varying sociodemographic groups. Today, the western and northern parts of the former Soviet Union have the demographic characteristics of a developed country, while the Central Asian republics share the demographic patterns of developing countries.
This comprehensive study provides an overview of demographic trends and patterns in the republics of the former Soviet Union. The contributors present data that has been evaluated by leading Soviet and Western demographers, including much that has only recently become available. The book forms the first compendium of demographic research on the former Soviet Union, providing a detailed review of Soviet demographic change fertility, marriage and the family, age and mortality through the twentieth century.

The Cauble Connection
Manufacturer: Old Boston Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0975934708 |
Product Description
A strange but true story about a bunch of uneducated "real life" cowboys from a small town who organized one of the largest marijuana smuggling operations in history. None was a Tony Montana ( Al Pacino's Character in the movie Scarface), yet they somehow managed to make the eighteen- day 7500-mile round trip in shrimp boats from the Texas coast to Columbia, and with cash, purchase powerful "red bud" marijuana that would make them $70 million. They got by with it for slightly over three years before they were busted by the DEA. In the meantime, it destroyed a western icon. Rex Carmack Cauble, a movie star cowboy type who came from no where to become one of the states richest and most powerful people, spent three and one half years of his life in a federal penitentiary because it was Cauble's riches that supposedly "backed" the operation. To the day he died, the renouned owner of Cutter Bill's Western wear, Mr. Cauble, claimed he was innocent and the government was out to get him. Looking inside this incredible story the question comes to mind: Would Cauble, or anyone for that matter, who was worth $100 million, risk it to be involved in making some easy money that would come form the sale of drugs (which he supposedly loathed)? On the other hand, wouldn't a man as sharp as Cauble, who ruled a financial empire, know who he was loaning money to? In lending his ranch foreman and some other unsavory characters money from his Western State Bank, did Cauble know what it was being used for or did he care? Did he keep quiet, thinking he could pocket a few million to funnel through his cash-poor businesses, and think he was too "big and powerful" to ever get caught?
