Customer Reviews:
Good Job.......2002-08-22
I have Money 2001, but this book still applies very well. I have been pleased with most of the Dummies books and this one is no different. It covers everything I was curious about and helped me to fill some gaps in my understanding of the software. The chapters are well organized, which makes it easy to find answers to specific questions and a good bookshelf reference. Considering there's little else currently out there for MS Money, this book is it.
Outstanding practical guide!.......2000-03-26
I've checked out other books on Microsoft Money, but this is the best I've found for answering the real questions that actually come up when you're using the program. Excellent step-by-step instructions on everything from the simplest to the most complex Money features!
Big Disappointment.......2000-01-03
This is the 1st "Dummies" book I've found disappointing. The early chapters are fine, but as the topics become more complex, the book becomes no more than a guide for filling in software fields. There's very little expert advice on how to actually use the software to reflect and manage real-life financial transactions and situations.
I'd been using Money for a while before I bought this book: it didn't answer any of my outstanding questions. I just don't have the sense that the author is any kind of expert MS Money user.
A lot better than what Microsoft offers....................1999-11-28
I bought Money 2000 I was unhappy that Microsoft didn't include a manual but instead I got a booklet on Money strategies that I found useless. I found Money 2000 for Dummies a very helpful book. The chapters were clear and well placed. I found the step by step instructions useful and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this book.
Excellent Guide!.......1999-11-22
Money 2000 for Dummies is thorough, clearly written, and fun to read. It is a very useful adjunct to the information provided as part of the software, and is much more in-depth than the guidebook offered by Microsoft.

Book Description
This book provides educators with both the theoretical and the practical considerations for planning and implementing technology in schools. It is one of the very few books directed to educational leaders who realize the importance of a long-term vision and investment in technology. Emphasis is placed throughout on the importance of the total application as opposed to any individual component of technology planning. Staff development, facilities, and finances are treated with the same importance as hardware and software. It is meant to form a foundation from which educators will provide the leadership and become agents for realizing the powerful potential of technology in their schools.

Lead your school to greater technological achievement!
The larger picture in educational technology is not hardware or software, but curriculum, achievement, and technology’s overall role in education. In an engaging style, the author, also founder of the Idaho Administrative Technology Leadership Center, explores the complexities of change and implementation of technology in schools.
The Principal as Technology Leader looks at current research while providing guidelines to development and planning, and includes sample technology plans that are easy to follow and use.
In addition, the book highlights:
- Instructional leadership and curriculum
- The digital divide between needs and availability
- Needs assessment
- Strategic planning
- Staff technophobia
- TSSA standards
- Constructivism and Engaged Learning
- Community support
In an age of data-driven decision making and accountability, Creighton advances the argument for staff development and technology implementation that will enhance student achievement, rather than relying on outdated methods of drill and practice.

Book Description
In recent years, the expansion of night-time leisure has emerged as a key indicator of post-industrial urban prosperity, attracting investment, creating employment and re-generating the built environment. These leisure economies are youth-dominated, focusing upon the sale and consumption of alcohol. Unprecedented numbers of young people now flock to town centres that are crammed with bars, pubs and clubs, and the resulting violent disorder has over run police resources that remain geared to the drinking patterns and alcohol cultures of previous generations. Post-industrial re-structuring has spawned an increasingly complex mass of night-time leisure options through which numerous licit and illicit commercial opportunities flow. Yet, regardless of the fashionable and romantic notions of many contemporary urban theorists, it is alcohol, mass intoxication and profit rather than 'cultural regeneration,' which lies at the heart of this rapidly expanding dimension of post-industrial urbanism. Private security in the bulky form of bouncers fills the void left by the public police. These men (only 7% are women), whose activities are barely regulated by the State, are dominated by a powerful subculture rooted in routine violence and intimidation. Using ethnography, participant observation and extensive interviews with all the main players, this controversial book charts the emergence of the bouncer as one of the most graphic symbols in the iconography of post industrial Britain.

Exploring the Planets (2nd Edition)
ASIN: 052180633X |
Book Description
Without sacrificing any of the detail or breadth of the full-size edition, the essential reference source for maps of every planet, moon, or small body investigated by NASA missions is now available in a convenient, portable format. Featuring over 150 maps, 214 color illustrations and a gazetteer that lists the names of all features officially approved by the International Astronomical Union, The Compact NASA Atlas of the Solar System includes the full range of information gathered from NASA missions throughout the Solar System. Compiled by the US Geological Survey, this atlas includes: -Geological maps -Reference maps -Shaded relief maps -Synthetic aperture radar mosaics -Color photo-mosaics that present the features of planets and their satellites This 'road map' of the solar system is the definitive guide for planetary science and should be part of every cartographers and astonomer's collection. Ronald Greeley is a Regent Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at Arizona State University. He is a team member of the Galileo mission to Jupiter and of the Mars Pathfinder lander. Greeley is currently a co-investigator for the European Mars Express mission. Raymond Batson spent his 35-year career with the United States Geological Survey. He has worked in terrestrial mapping and in lunar and planetary mapping. Batson served as co-investigator or team member on most NASA planetary missions, including the Apollo lunar lander missions, the Mariner Mars and Venus/Mercury mapping missions, the Viking 1 and 2 Mars mapping missions, the Voyager missions to the outer planets, and the Magellan Venus radar mapping mission.
Customer Reviews:
Beautifully done, good to excellent coverage.......2002-10-29
As an amateur astronomer, my interest tends more to deep-sky objects rather than planetary astronomy, but I spent some time looking at this atlas, and it really is a striking catalog of our current knowledge of the solar system. The atlas contains beautiful closeups of every planet except Pluto, although the coverage for Venus isn't that extensive, but then since Venus is mostly clouds, I don't know how much would be served by that, unlike the cloud-cover of Jupiter, which shows many stable bands and also the pink and red spots. There are also maps of a number of the moons of Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus, allowing you to see their heavily marred and cratered surfaces, which are very reminiscent of Mercury or our moon.
The atlas only contains maps for the large Galileian satellites of Jupiter and the same for the larger, closer moons of Saturn, but I don't know if this is because of limitations in the spacecraft that took the photos or the distances involved from the spacecraft to the moons. The maps of Mars are perhaps the most interesting in terms of surface details, and features like the enormous, 17-mile high and 400-mile across volcano, Nix Olympica, and the great gorge on Mars, really stand out. Another thing that was interesting was the discovery of the first asteroid with its own small planet. The atlas features over 150 maps, 214 color illustrations and a gazetteer. Overall, this is a stunning and beautifully done atlas of the solar system, which, despite its not being cheap, should still be of interest to amateurs and professionals alike.
Very good reference but a few glaring flaws.......2002-07-11
The Compact NASA Atlas of the Solar System is a very good reference for those working with spacecraft. Spacecraft images don't come with names already on them and it is often difficult when looking at some MGS images which crater is which and what they are called. When it comes to most of the inner planets, and Saturnian, Uranian, and Neptunian moons, the coverage is quite good and very useful. However, I can't say the same for Venus and Jupiter's moons. While there is excellent coverage for Mars as far as number of sections, Venus is not covered as well even though we have similar scale maps. I agree with the authors that if the same scale was used for both, the Venus maps would take up a large number of pages. However, the same number of quadrants would have been nice. Secondly, the coverage of the Jovian moons is lacking. The maps are from the Voyager era and while that may not be as big of a problem for Ganymede or Callisto, it is a problem for Io and Europa. The coverage of Europa from Galileo has greatly improved over Voyager's coverage and an updated map would have been nice. Io's map is also from Voyager. The fact that much of the anti-jovian side has been covered in great detail by Galileo but it was not included in the atlas save a small image of that mosaic not incorporated into the map. in addition, surface changes in the 20 years between Voyager and Galileo have made the included map quite out of date.
Save those two flaws, it is a pretty good reference for those interested in the solar system.

Book Description
From its discovery by Marie Curie, radium was treated as some sort of wonder element. Capable of preventing disease, being used by quacks and doctors alike, it had thousands of uses. All that was to change by the 1920s. As radiation poisoning was being studied seriously, the deadly effects of radium were known and the wonder element was beginning to be feared. What of the legacy today? There are over 500 sites in the UK alone where radium was used or produced, all contaminated in some way. Some of these sites have been re-developed with no regard for the danger they pose or in ignorance of their past. On at least one heavily contaminated site, a housing project has been built.

Genetics: From Genes to Genomes is a cutting-edge, introductory genetics text authored by an unparalleled author team, including Nobel Prize winner, Leland Hartwell. The Second Edition continues to build upon the integration of Mendelian and molecular principles, providing students with the links between early genetics understanding and the new molecular discoveries that have changed the way the field of genetics is viewed.

Genetics: From Genes to Genomes.......2006-02-23
Great figures to go with the text. Not a quick read, but it is a great genetics resource.
Genetics: From Genes to Genomes.......2005-02-07
I found this book extremely verbose and unorganized. It would serve as a great reference book for a lab researcher or grad student. But it's way too technical and dense for an introductory genetics class. The authors do a poor job presenting the material in a comprehensible way to an undergraduate genetics student. Not recommended.
Great general Genetics textbook.......2004-12-12
I think this is a great text book for General Genetics class! In fact, this is the text we have been using at UC Berkeley.
The authors are not only clear & concise in delivering their topics, but also able to formulate challenging questions to test students' undestanding.
Genetics concepts well understood.......2003-09-14
Excellent book that goes in depth to the science of genetics.

Lotz of good info.......2007-07-27
There is alot of good information in this book. I haven't started applying any of it, so I cannot tell you about that. But, if good, well organized, useful information is what you are after...buy this book.
Book for Pre Diabetics/Diabetics.......2007-07-27
I am pre diabetic and appreciated the information I got from this book. My family has enjoyed the recipes tried so far. They also gave me ideas about how to change my existing favorites.
The Sugar Solution.......2007-07-18
It seems to be a never-ending battle. We start the day with the best of intentions. Today we are going to eat right, exercise, and control our stress. Then reality sets in. We wake up late (that stupid alarm didn't ring) to a chaotic mess of getting kids off to school on time (making sure that homework actually accompanies them). Our only aim at this point is to get to work before the boss notices. There's no time for a real breakfast, exercise, or a nice relaxing meditation session. Coffee and a donut will have to do as we drive through hectic traffic.
By midmorning, adrenaline and four cups of coffee have worn off and we are starting to feel drained. To make up time lost, we skip lunch or gobble down some fast food as we try to get caught up. With some food in our stomach's we finally feel back to normal. Unfortunately, this feeling is short lived and the day drags on.
We all know that we should do better. We all know that we should take the time to eat right, to exercise, and to reduce our stress. However, just getting through each day seems to take up all the energy we have.
The Sugar Solution reminds us that by taking care of ourselves each day we not only reduce the risk of countless life threatening diseases but we also increase our energy levels and abilities to cope with day to day stress. More importantly though, this book unravels the mysteries of carbohydrates and provides nutritional, exercise, and stress relief programs that fit into the average person's busy life.
Ganele a la glucosa.......2007-06-27
I bought this book for my older daughter, who is overweight. Much of the symptoms of her condition were detailed in the book. But the book is too long. Anybody trying to reduce and control weight wants fast results.
A book so big is not practical. Author should review and condense it, probably to less than half.
Great Book.......2007-06-04
This book taught me a lot of things about my body. I was never aware of my blood sugar levels, but now I recognize feelings I've always had - shaky, irritable - as low blood sugar. I've totally changed my diet b/c of this book, and I'm losing weight without being hungry. I'm sending my copy to a friend, and I've been telling a lot of people about it.
I really only read the first half or so. It gets a little repetitive, which is fine. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. You'll hit a section that appeals to your way of thinking. The message is the same throughout. It's not breathtaking, but it's full of staistics and information that will change the way you think. e.g. most Americans only get half the recommended amount of fiber in their diets.
I feel like reducing high glycemic index foods has ton a lot for me. I had a chronic cold/sinus infection for over 6 months that is gone. I feel more clear-headed. I'm able to resist my cravings for sweets, which is a big deal to me.
Get this book! It will turn your attitude around, and change your body and your life.

Book Description
The crime fiction novelist presents his first novella, A Lapse of Memory, based on his short story of the same name. When the mafia wants a mark eliminated, they turn to contract killer James Randall, a.k.a. Richard Johnson, and he usually delivers in spades. But Randall is aging and has developed the early stages of Alzheimer's. When a hit goes horribly wrong, he finds himself on the run, pursued by his former employers. Gritty, mesmerizing, A Lapse of Memory excites us with the chase, while also providing a back-story of a time long gone by. Himself in search of a lost past, the emotionally complex Randall is determined to evade his pursuers. But can he any longer differentiate friend from foe? Can he search out the secrets of his past as the present slips away? The novella is ripe with inventive incidents, is evocative of the present as well as the physical atmosphere of the 1950's, and offers a number of interesting characters. As usual in Curry's work, the presence of the sea and the city is keenly felt and connected to the psychological action of the story.

The beautiful but haunted Aria Taylor-Jones returns to her small Austrialian home town after an eight-month absence to find the answer to a devastating question: had she witnessed a murder or committed it? All she knows is the truth is locked away within her missing memory of that fateful night. Grady Heller, brother of the murdered Lisanne and Aria's ex-fiance, finds he can't turn Aria away when she needs his help. Furious as he is with Aria for leaving him, he thinks he can help her through hypnosis, and he also wants to find the answers to his sister's murder. As they work towards unlocking her amnesia, someone starts stalking Aria--someone who wants her gone, and wants her memory to stay just the way it is--but she won't give in.
