Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars excellent motivational how-to guide.......2002-05-07

I was given this book as a gift and, at the giver's request, took time to really read the book. This book has been an inspiration to me financially, spiritually (although it is not a Christian book, the author definitely writes with God in mind), and personally. It discusses what women should do to become independent and move forward in life. It got me out of my comfort zone and woke me up to the possibilities available to any person. The author truly desires to assist women in bettering their positions and to not let others, male or female, control their lives. The author's points and suggestions have improved my position and my relationships with my children and spouse. If you want to improve your financial situation, this book is a must-read. Put it in your personal library!

5 out of 5 stars LET'S SPREAD THE WORLD.......2001-07-20

AWESOME! I have been mentoring women of all ages on these subject matters for many years. The concepts Mr. O'Shaughnessy shares will change your life if you are willing to take action. Some of the keys words to a good life are organization, goals and self-esteem. Mr. O'Shaughnessy presents the foundation for these keys areas plus so much more. Women take heed! Dare to be a Millennium Woman.

5 out of 5 stars I'm a Believer.......2001-06-25

After attending a Millennium Woman Friend-Raiser in LA I decided to buy this book. I was inspired at the event, but the book brought it all home. As a woman I feel that this book speaks directly to me and the issues and fears I have about my own success and abilities. I now have my goals on my mirror and I am a Millennium Woman!

5 out of 5 stars How to be a Millennium Woman..........2000-10-09

This book has been such a terrific guide for me.

It has helped me to organize, set goals, learn when to say yes and when to say NO. It opened my eyes to so much, I was amazed at how little I knew about finances, saving, debt, goals, self-esteem and even Real Estate. The author, although a man, seems so in-tune to the struggles of today's women--single, married, divorced, widowed, single-parent--all women and gives answers and guidelines--not just philosphies and baloney. It is a "nuts and bolts" book that gives you step by step instructions on how to turn your life around and be prosperous, happy and successful and he does it in a lively and sometimes humorous manner.

I am so happy I bought this book-it has been very, very insightful. Take the time-you'll be glad you did.

4 out of 5 stars We are all Millennium Woman.......2000-03-05

Millennium Woman is a great book for ALL women: We are all either single, divorced, married, with kids or widowed and trying to make it. Written from the perspective of the "Other Team" author O'Shaughnessy makes it clear that women must use the same formula for success as men. We must lead balanced lives before we can achieve financial freedom. EASY to READ!

      Book Description

"Ambitious in scope, yet full of detailed and incisive criticisms of specific cases and theological principles, Getting Over Equality is an uncommon work of truly interdisciplinary scholarship. The provocative legal and theological theses make it a welcome addition to contemporary scholarship in both fields and a recommended text from any course that considers law and religion in the American context."—The Journal of Religion

Questions of religious freedom continue to excite passionate public debate. Proposals involving school prayer and the posting of the Ten Commandments in schools and courtrooms perennially spur controversy. But there is also a sense that the prevailing discourse is exhausted, that no one seems to know how to think about religious freedom in a way that moves beyond our stale, counterproductive thinking on this issue.

In Getting over Equality, Steven D. Smith, one of the most important voices now writing about religious liberty, provocatively contends that we must get over our presumption mistakenly believed to be rooted in the Constitution that all religions are equally true and virtuous and "authentically American." Smith puts forth an alternative view, that the courts should promote an ideal of tolerance rather than equality and neutrality. Examining such controversial examples as the animal sacrifice case, the peyote case, and the problem of aid to parochial schools, Smith delineates a way for us to tolerate and respect contrary creeds without sacrificing or diluting our own beliefs and without pretending to believe in a spurious "equality" among the variety of diverse faiths.

5 out of 5 stars A Breakthrough in Undergraduate Texts.......2007-03-15

A book I really wouldn't have thought could have been written. There are a lot of books on general relativity at the superficial level, call these books 'mathless.' There are monumental tomes aimed at the graduate student level, call these books 'tensor calculus.' Here is a book exquisitely positioned between these others. The student will need to have had differential calculus, and perhaps a bit of basic physics, and with these he will get a pretty good, introductory understanding of General Relativity.

The real key to this book is that it explains a lot, but then it open up a bunch of other questions, questions that we really haven't answered yet -- things like dark matter, dark energy, accelerating expansion of the universe, and more.

The book ends with: 'How can physics live up to its true greatness except by a new revolution in outlook which dwarfs all past revolutions? And when it comes, will we not say to each other, Oh, how beautiful and simple it all is! How could we ever have missed it so long.'

That's just the awe, the vision, that we want new and budding physicists to have.

5 out of 5 stars Good book if you like mathematics!.......2007-01-05

This is the best book about General relativity ( GR ) that I have ever read. Instead of trying to explain GR with words the author is using mathematics to to illustrate some of the consequences of GR. This means that some mathematical knowledge is required ( but not knowledge about tensors and dfferential forms ) and that the reader need to spend some time with paper and pencil to truly understand the text. The examples is concentrated on what is happening around black holes but the advance of Mercury's perihelion and the slowing of light around the Sun is also described. A very good book!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Introduction to a Very Esoteric Subject.......2006-06-11

Einstein's general theory of relativity is perhaps one of the most mathematically intense areas of research any physicist or astronomer could undertake. However this book takes the subject and turns it into a joyous romp through curved spacetime.

By avoiding the field equations and focusing on their solutions the authors impart to the eager student an overview of general relativity and set the stage for a more rigorous approach to be undertaken later. This book is the perfect introduction to the subject.

The book is well suited for advanced undergraduates who have had several hours of physics and mathematics. It is likewise suited to serve as a introductory text for graduate students that are studying astrophysics and astronomy. In the latter case the text serves well as an overview of what general relativity is, many of its findings, its predictions, and its relevance to observational astronomy.

If you have a basic understanding of calculus and have studied the special theory of relativity in some detail then this book is well suited to your needs.

5 out of 5 stars Gives an intuitive understanding of General Relativity.......2005-08-18

This book sidesteps the hard work needed to motivate and develop the Einstein field equations, and goes directly to one of the most important solutions of the equations, the Schwarzschild solution, which gives rise to the concept of a black hole. By exploring what observers in different parts of space-time would experience along their different trajectories (whether falling into a black hole or watching from a safe spot far away), Taylor and Wheeler manage to convey an intuitive understanding for such typical GR "paradoxes" such as the fact that the same "event" (the crossing over of an object through the event horizon) can be seen to take 15 minutes, or forever, depending on who's watching it.

Because of what it omits, this book is not a complete presentation of GR. It does present the most fun part of GR, however, in a way that is mathematically accessible.

Along the way, a few side questions are adddressed, like "How painful would it be to be squished/torn apart as I fall into a black hole?" A lot of time is also spent explaining how the weird trajectories of light within the event horizon will transmogrify what is seen by the observer.

This is a great book and a lot of fun. I am also left with a greater motivation to go back to a more complete presentation, to be convinced that "this is where you have to end up". Although much longer, this book is a worthy successor to the original output of this dynamic duo, "Spacetime Physics".

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Fred Returns to Blandings Castle! What Ho!.......2005-06-30

Pongo Twistleton's Uncle Fred, the Fifth Earl of Ickenham, is dedicated, in his own words, to spreading sweetness and light wherever he goes (others have less complimentary words for what he does). In aid of this objective, he has previously appeared at Blandings Castle in the guise of the noted nerve specialist Sir Roderick Glossop, and been discovered as an impostor. While he remains a favorite of Clarence, the Ninth Earl of Emsworth and the proprietor of Blandings Castle, he is extremely unpopular with Clarence's sister Constance, who actually runs the place.

No Blandings Castle novel is complete, of course, without at least one impostor, sundered hearts that must be reunited, the threat or actuality of the theft of the Empress of Blandings (the Earl of Emsworth's prize Berkshire sow), and an abundance of farcical monkey business. Wodehouse supplies all of these, plus the presence of the two Earls, each one of the great characters in literature, and Alaric, the Duke of Dunstable, an impossibly rude man and the perfect foil for Uncle Fred.

All in all, a marvelously funny book by the greatest master of farce ever.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun at Blandings Castle.......2004-12-05

Service with a Smile is my second favorite of the P.G. Wodehouse books about the daffy doings at Blandings Castle, and is exceeded only by Pigs Have Wings.

If you have read any of the P.G. Wodehouse books about Blandings Castle, you know that the proprietor, Clarence, ninth Earl of Emsworth, is a simple man who simply wants to be left alone to contemplate his prize-winning pig, The Empress of Blandings, who has won the silver prize three years running in the fat pigs class at the Shropshire Agricultural Show. But he is beset by sisters who want to organize his life . . . and that of everyone else. The most frequently present of these sisters is Lady Constance Keeble, who is in residence in this book.

Lady Constance is a widow and has her eye on a wealthy American, James Schoonmaker, whose daughter, Myra, has been brought to Blandings Castle by Lady Constance to keep Myra from marrying a curate, a poor but honest man. Lady Constance has no truck with poor people and she's confident that James Schoonmaker would feel the same way.

The castle also contains Clarence's secretary, Lavender Briggs, who desperately wants to start up her own typing bureau but lacks capital; the Duke of Dunstable, who thinks everyone else is potty and wants to save a penny wherever he can; and Clarence's grandson, George, who has a new movie camera from his grandfather. All will play important roles in the developing plot.

The catalyst for this marvelous story is the effervescent Frederick Altamont Cornwallis Twistleton, fifth Earl of Ickenham. As an old friend of the Schoonmakers, Freddie decides to bring the young people together in holy matrimony. To further this course, Freddie introduces the curate, one Bill Bailey (about whom many song jokes follow), into the castle as a Brazilian business man who has something to do with Brazil nuts.

Freddie's plot is soon foiled though when Dunstable decides to grab the Empress by hook or by crook and Bill Bailey is blackmailed to help. How will the young lovers be brought together?

Ickenham is a less scrupulous version of Galahad Threepwood, Clarence's younger brother, who was such a fixture in the old Pelican Club. He sees fatheaded rich men as being likely sources of capital for poor, but deserving younger people. He also believes in love and soon has two sets of young lovers to sort out. He has a strategic advantage in this plot in that his reputation precedes him and all those in trouble quickly come to seek his counsel. In the process, that allows Freddie to pull the strings almost as well as the fairies do in some of Shakespeare's lightest comedies.

Like all of the best Wodehouse stories, this one positively reeks with humorous names (such as George Cyril Wellbeloved, Clarence's pig man), class humor (fat-headed upper class types being shorn), irony (the simple is exalted over the complex and pretentious) and never-ending humorous confrontations and contretemps.

Save this book for the next time you need cheering up. It's a perfect tonic!

5 out of 5 stars Wodehouse penned another winner.......2002-07-06

P.G. Wodehouse wrote yet another delightful tangled tale in this addition to the Blandings Castle saga. As usual, he weaves a celtic knot of plot in and around Blandings Castle, this time involving Lord Ickenham (a.k.a. Uncle Fred) and his young friend Bill Bailey (who of course comes under another name); Myra Schoonmaker and her father, James Schoonmaker; the Duke of Dunstable and his nephew, Archie Gilpin; Lavender Briggs, Lord Emsworth's new secretary; and the usual Blandings cast including Lord Emsworth, Lady Constance, and Beach. Two love stories interweave as well as once again a plot against Lord Emsworth's thrice-prize-winning pig, Empress of Blandings. Great fun!

Funny with a theological message. I have bought skit books from other authors and paid twice as much to use one--maybe two skits. Mr. Wray gives you 52 skits for the same price and I've used, at least, fifteen of his skits in worship services.
A perfect resource for drama directors and pastors.

4 out of 5 stars Good, brief, and catchy sermon-starter sketches.......1999-03-28

This book contains a variety of short and light sketches to use as a lead-in to a sermon. They vary from lightly amusing to slightly slap-stick. Sometimes one has to be careful about the theology of skit books, but this one is very good with only a few that may be questionable if your congregation is not of a fundamentalist faith.

Christine West writes the ubiquitous guide on how to train your wait staff or be the best darn wait-person around. Humourous, witty and chock full of tips, your tips will increase and you will be the employee of the month or manager withing weeks. (Seriously). Even if you are NOT in the trade, you will learn if your wait-person deserves a tip or not (as I did) ... or learn if you need to complain or not.
I have seen Christine in action and she is the best waitress on the planet and the ultimate resource for writing this book ... her columns for the "W Network" and in syndication on being single (via the London Free Press) show her great and witty talent and promise more amazing work is due to come. This book is just the beginning of an illustrious career --- not to miss if you are working ANYWHERE in the hospitality industry: from the kitchen right up to being a trainer/supervisor or teacher at the college or university level.
