Book Description
Representing a major revision of this comprehensive book, the fourth edition expands the authors' premise that the responsibility for successful human resources administration is one that is shared between central HR personnel and local principals. Numerous instructional activities bolster material that examines research relevant to each topic as it happens today and forecasts competencies that will be required of the HR professional tomorrow. Coverage addresses the primary HR processes of planning, recruitment, selection, induction, development, negotiation, compensation, and organizational climate, with special attention paid in this edition to the contribution effective HR administration can make to improving student achievement. For professionals in the field of Human Resources.

Human Resources for Educators.......2007-04-05
Human Resources Administration: Personnel Issues and Needs in Education (4th Edition)
This book is used in a principal certification program at a 4 year graduate school. The text is current and covers all of the issues that educators at any point in their careers must muddle through. It offers 3 short case studies at the end of each chapter and a summary of the chapter. Each chapter has clear learning objectives, with tables and charts that are easy to understand.
I would recommend this book to all graduate students in education, as it covers not only school districts, but also issues such as evaluations, strategic planning, collective bargaining and compensation issues.
It tells about the legal authority for states to act on behalf of the community in educating its children in public schools. I believe it is a thorough and cogent book that will assist professors with scenarios about real life work as principals.
Not As Good As Rebore's But Well Put Together.......2005-12-23
I find this book rewarding, but maybe a bit too undescriptive. For rising school administrator, the need for a well-paced, info-packed textbook on personnel administration looms large.
If you get this one, please get another one if you can.
Human Resource Administration:Personnel Issues and Needs in Education (4th Edition).......2005-09-19
The textbook is fairly general in its coverage of the issues comfronting human resource administrators in the educational arena today. Moreover, the book is totally lacking in the areas of labor relations, i.e contract negotiations and the interface of human resources with other components of the educational systems such as administrative/business services or educational services. While the book is written by renowned authors from the University of Arizona, their viewpoint is skewed because is appears that most of their information is drawn from their experiences with schools districts in Arizona, a right to work state. The best part of the book is the chapter on human resources adminisration: past present and future.
Overall, the textbook might be useful to someone who was new to the field of human resources and had no prior experience in the education field.

Customer Reviews:
Eureka!.......2007-08-28
This book is very well written and definitely helps the reader understand complex ideas in a simple way. Easy to follow, and well illustrated...especially if you prefer pictures to words. The book doesn't drag along-it's format is brief and to the point. By the end, I felt like I could actually explain the intricacies of the night sky. Well done!
Book Description
Describes the present state of modern surface science, and is also a reference source for data and concepts related to properties of surfaces and interfaces. Focuses on the qualities of solid-gas and solid-vacuum interfaces. Discusses local attributes of surface atoms and molecules, atomic structures, chemical bonding, absorptions, catalysis and mechanical properties. I have never received my book!.......2007-09-26
I have purchased this book but I have never received it. You have lost my stuff and now I have not got my money back!
Pratical and fast.......2006-02-26
It was very fast buy and receve the book. The book came to me in good shape.
Extensive and thorough.......2005-07-22
This is one of the better and more complete books on surface science. The book devotes seperate chapters to the various aspects of surfaces, such as structure, dynamics, thermodynamics, reactions at surfaces, etc... The chemistry and physics of surfaces are covered in detail, and many topics are explained in detail; i.e. the difference between chemisorption and physiosorption. The various properties of surfaces (work function, electron affinity, reconstructions) are explained and literature data is provided through extensive use of tables, charts and figures. This book would serve as a good textbook for a class on the same topic. This book would also serve as a great reference book. The end of each chapter contains an extensive list of references. The book includes a large list of acronyms commonly used in surface science. There are also extensive lists of experimental data of surfaces; an example is the list of known reconstructions for both bare surfaces and surfaces terminated with different molecules.
There are four major limitations to this text. First, it covers the science of surfaces from a non-biological point of view. Second, there is no dedicated chapter on techniques used for analyzing surfaces. Instead, the different techniques are described in the sections that deal with related properties. For example, the work function, electron affinity, and techniques used to determine these properties are all described in the chapter on electrical properties. Third, this book was printed in 1994, making it somewhat dated, especially in a field that is growing as rapidly as surface science. Last, there is very little discussion of how computer modeling, specifically quantum mechanical calculations, can be used to study surfaces. This last drawback is partially due to the book being published in 1994, when quantum calculations on surfaces was still somewhat rare in the scientific literature.
In all, I would not buy this book, but would wait for a newer edition.
Great intro book.......2000-06-27
Great book for beginners in the field. Very comprehensive written by one of the most respected figure in surface science.

Book Description
Zeolites and related molecular sieves have quickly become important pathways to new opportunities in the fields of oil processing and petrochemical synthesis. The signs of intense activity in both industry and academia are evident: burgeoning papers and patent applications; increasing numbers of industrial zeolite-based processes and their rapid expansion into organic chemicals manufacturing; recent progress in zeolite accessibility range, matrix behaviour, lattice components and satellite structures; and the recognition that zeolites, which are stable and can be regenerated, may be incorporated into new, environmentally friendly processes.
This volume offers a thorough, up-to-date introduction to zeolites and such related materials as crystalline aluminium phosphates and clays. Its 16 chapters, each written by specialists, provide detailed treatments of zeolite theory (including a review of major developments), zeolite laboratory and research practice, and zeolite industry applications.
Students and individuals entering the field will find
Introduction to Zeolite Science and Practice a thorough guidebook. Experienced researchers will appreciate its in-depth coverage of the zeolite spectrum, including the latest views on zeolite structure, characterization and applications.
Book Description
A short, broad introduction to the emerging field of evolutionary psychology (the study of adaptive significance of behavior). 10 short chapters introduce the reader to the major topics within the field of evolutionary psychology (from "Social Order and Disorder" to "Mating and Reproduction" to "The Creative Impulse: The Origins of Technology and Art"). For psychologists, students, or anyone interested in evolutionary psychology.
Customer Reviews:
Very informative.......2006-01-19
Comprehensive and easy to read and full of useful information. Ample reference material and evidence to back up the findings and theories. I especiall liked the explanations of psychpathologies from evolutionary perspectives and the effects of different brain damages on personality and behavior.
Textbook, but Worth a Look.......2005-06-26
This book, for all its faults, is surprisingly informative. Yes, the authors are poor writers (poor-to-bad punctuation, spelling, and run-ons abound); there's no question that the authors did not consult a style manual before writing some tortuous sentential structures. Even some key scientist's names are misspelled. But despite these obvious flaws, the authors explain evolutionary biology quite thoroughly, even if, or rather because, it is meant as a textbook.
But taking some of the chapter and section highlights, look what's covered under one set of binding:
Chapter One: The Roots of Evolutionary Psychology
--Darwin's Theory

--Jealousy and Mate-Guarding
--Sperm Wars
--Sexual Orientation
--Pair-bonding Strategies (Limerence and Long-term Pair Bonding)
Chapter Six: Ontogeny

Chapter Ten: Ancient Mammal in a Brave New World
--Mismatch Theory
--Stree: Then and Now
--Mental Health
--Indoctrination, Nationalism, & War
--Psychoparmacology (Substance Abuse & Pharmacology)
--The New Eugencis: Genetic Engineering
As one can see, almost every conceivable topic of evolutionary and psychological importance is covered in a single volume of about 250 pages. Admittedly, some features are not as well covered as I might have liked. For example: The distinction between altruism and reciprocal altruism is conflated, and the subsection on stress hormones identifies not a one. But these quibbles are minor compared to the magisterial accomplishment of having all these features in one, consolidated volume. And other than E. O. Wilson, this is the first volume I've encountered where sexual orientation from an evolutionary perspective is addressed, even if it's in paltry terms. Nothing is more counterintuitive to evolutionary biology than the persistence of homosexuality. The authors explanation may fail, but at least they don't avoid it.
And unlike some modern populizers of evolutionary biology and psychology, this book gives the facts and nothing but the facts. People used to other populizers' (Pinker for example) invasive and extemporaneous inputs might be bored by the lack of mindless interruptions, but I appreciated the straight-forwardness of this volume. As one who looks critically at evolutionary biology to explain human behavior, I appreciate this direct and unconvoluted approach. There are deficiencies, which I am sure the authors today would want to correct. But for explaining human behavior in terms of the Modern Synthesis, this one volume does it all without the extraneous.
I encourage the authors to consult a style manual, rewrite, and repunctuate many of their sentences. I also encourage them to add new information that has come to light since this volume was printed in 2002. And I beseech the authors to try harder to explain homosexuality in evolutionary terms (they explain it only in ontogenic terms). But with these few admonitions, a second edition would be a welcome event. The "Further Reading" List is extensive, while the notes are cryptic (no page references); and the index is comprehensive.
Read Pinker et al. for their hype, read and keep this volume for your reference.

Total Waste of money........2007-01-31
I have never been so disappointed in any book. This book is just about 100 pages long. It is mostly wasted paper. Most pages have one "joke" in the middle of a blank page. My husband and I have read almost all of it and have yet to even smile, much less laugh. It is not funny at all and the stories are plain stupid with absolutely no point to them. I don't know how this book ever got published. What a waste!
