    Book Description

The third-party logistics industry is a growing field. Relationships between third-party logistics providers and customer firms demand the creation of logistics contract where the necessary business and legal agreements are stipulated. Until now, the creation and negotiation of these agreements have been based on custom. This is the first practical handbook to support managers in the creation and negotiation of logistics contracts from the legal and economic perspective. The book provides the general framework and an extensive analysis of the content, structure and best practices of logistics contracts.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Logistics contracts.......2007-04-22

The book has the very great merit of filling a vacuum, anybody dealing with logistics and distribution is faced with logistics service contracts. It is a worthwhile attemp at organising that body of knowledge from a legal perspective giving guidance and models in English, the language of international contracts. On the minus side: the English of non native speakers is often convoluted and difficult to follow; more and more extensive model contracts could be provided (perhaps through a web site) and the book does not cover the non legal aspects (e.g. quantitative ) of a tender and then a contract (e.g. KPIs, data analysis, tariff structures). A good starting point to move past one's local knowledge and into international contracts but by no means a definitive and comprehensive treatement.

      * First published in 1664, this book, though ostensibly descriptive, was written chiefly to maintain the jurisdiction of the Admiralty court in the new government. Beyond its political interest, it offers a detailed analysis of seventeenth-century maritime law and admiralty jurisdiction by at the time when Great Britain was emerging as a major maritime and colonial power. Exton [1600?-1668] was educated at Cambridge, earning the LL.D. in Civil Law in 1634. He was appointed President of the High Court of Admiralty by Parliament in 1649, and was reappointed by the Duke of York after the Restoration.

      4 out of 5 stars Meticulous research........2000-12-26

The author visited and studied megalithic sites all over Europe, the Near East and North and South Americas. By careful measurement and observation he illustrates astronomical alignments built in to these sites. Black and white photos and drawings abound. This is a clear, thorough and extensive survey of archaeo-astronomy. He misses some alignments that later work has uncovered, such as the Venus alignment at Newgrange (Uriel's Machine by Knight and Lomas), but this book does justice to an interesting field. A must read for people interested in the civilizations of pre-history.

        Product Description

All over the world, through countless centuries, people have looked skyward for inspiration and guidance in their lives and activities. How vast this heavenly influence was, and how awesome the human achievements it engendered were, are illuminated in this extraordinary work of investigation and discovery. With hundreds of illustrations and photographs, Echoes of the Ancient Skies is a sweeping look at the world of archaeoastronomy from the prehistoric megaliths of Stonehenge, to the medicine wheels of North America, to the Aztec "Calendar Stone." The intriguing field of archaeoastronomy- the study of ancient peoples' observation of the skies and its role in their cultural evolution- seeks to explore the "universal evidence that people have used astronomy as the model for injecting order and predictability on their behavior and on life." Examining this phenomenon, Dr. E.C. Krupp takes the reader to sites throughout the world (most of which he has personally visited)- from Egypt, China, Babylonia, and Greece, to Turkey, Scotland, Wyoming, and Mexico. He interprets the significance of celestial observation and its relation to the earthly experiences of our ancestors, from practical applications of farming and the measurement of time to philosophical queries into our particular place within the universe. He goes on to cover such fascinating topics as how we see the seasons in the sun and stars, possible ancient and prehistoric observatories such as the megalithic monument at Kintraw in Scotland, and sky gods and myths around the world and throughout history- from the Egyptian goddess Nut to the myth of Phaethon and the golden chariot of his father Helios. This edition also includes a new introduction that brings the research completely up to date. A fascinating and authoritative exploration, this around-the-world survey shows how the sky was woven into virtually every aspect of civilization and opens our eyes to the powers that shaped the human past

                        Book Description

How does it happen that billions of stars can cooperate to produce the beautiful spirals that characterize so many galaxies, including ours? This book presents a theory of spiral structure that has been developed over the past three decades under the continuous stimulus of new observational studies. The theory unfolds in a way that can be grasped by any reader with an undergraduate science background who is interested in astronomy, as well as by graduate students and scientists actively involved in astronomy or related subjects who want to see the "backbone" and the physical content of the theory.

The foundations of this theoretical framework were laid in the early 1960s, following the pioneering work of B. Lindblad. C. C. Lin had already contributed significantly to the field of fluid mechanics when he turned his attention to spiral structures, and he has focused on the problem ever since. Giuseppe Bertin joined this research effort when he first visited at MIT in 1975, bringing to the project knowledge from his work on elliptical galaxies and plasma astrophysics. Together, Bertin and Lin have contributed to the exciting developments on spiral structure of the last few decades, working closely with many observers and other theorists. In this book they describe the density-wave theory with the goal of making the key concepts and astrophysical implications explicit and accessible.

The essence of the solution Bertin and Lin present is that the spirals are wave rather than material phenomena and generally trace intrinsic characteristics of the individual galaxies. The book is in three parts -- Physical Concepts, Observational Studies, and Dynamical Mechanisms -- with most of the technical details confinedto the last part.

                        Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars massive long distance theory.......2005-01-01

It is a tribute to the power of physics and the mind, that humans could conceive of models that try to explain the grand sweep of spiral galaxies. Bertin gives a summary of 30 years research in this field, where he is one of the principal investigators.

He describes how he and Lin and others attempted to integrate continually improving observations with refinements in theory. The result of which has been termed density wave theory. It borrows some ideas from hydrodynamics, and pushes these to a cosmic scale.

The theory is shown to describe fairly adequately how structure can arise out of billions of stars in a galaxy, spread over distances of a hundred thousand light years or more. Some readers will appreciate the elegance of the theory.

One of the most painful parts of foster care is the lack of permanence moving from placement to placement and facing turnover among staff and social workers. These writers describe how they cope with frequent change.

                                              Book Description

Out of your heart flow your words and actions. Change your heart, and you'll change your life.

According to best-selling author Dr. Gary Smalley, nobody has to live by the destructive subtle lies or believe the distortions of truth this world holds out to us. There are steps, strategies, and beliefs people can bring to their lives to either totally transform them or quietly improve them-and it all starts with hiding God's Word in their hearts.

Hiding God's Word in his heart radically changed the life of Smalley himself, and he is seeing it revolutionize the lives of people around him as well-from lust, materialism, selfishness, anger, stress, overeating, anxiety, and guilt, just to name a few. No matter a person's age, experiences, or previous patterns, this book will guide readers to the whys and hows of orchestrating their beliefs to forever change their lives and relationships.
