Book Description
Online investing and money management is changing the way we handle our wealth...but there are pitfalls!
Customer Reviews:
A Time-Saving Short-Cut to the Best Investment Sites.......2000-10-05
The author has examined investing from many different angles to provide you with access to helpful investment information that you would probably never find otherwise. When you do searches for investment related sites, you get back thousands of references. Using this guide, you can pick a few outstanding sites in areas you are interested and investigate them to find the one or ones that best fit your needs.
For stocks, this book tells you where to find out about each market in the world, stock picking and trading strategies (including day trading), research and analysis, IPOs, and quotes. A similar level of detail is available for bonds, options, commodities, and mutual funds. Other sections cover important topics like money management (debt, savings, financial planning, tax planning, banking, and insurance), on-line security, and investment clubs.
Each section lists a large number of sites. You can obviously go to all of them if you want to. But for some, a brief summary is provided in the back of the book. These are marked, so you can decide if you want a little more information before going to a site. Probably, though, it would be faster just to go to the site. One of the beauties of this information is that it will save you a lot of clicking, because you get the right page reference for the part of the site that you are interested in. That was really neat!
In all but a few sections, the author has picked out 1-3 as an "Editor's Choice Site" meaning that these are more highly recommended. Many of these are reproduced in the book so you can get a sense of what's there. This can save you futher time.
I spend a lot of time looking at investments on the Internet, but this book introduced me to a large number of helpful sites that I had not been to before. If I make just one invetment better, the price of the book will be a pittance compared to the benefit.
If you are an investment beginner, I recommend that you read books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad; How to Buy Stocks; ChangeWave Investing; and Common Sense about Mutual Funds before using this wonderful guide.
If you are an experienced investor, dive right in. Undoubtedly, there is some part of investing that you are skimping on. With these on-line resources, you can fill in those gaps profitably. My one quibble with the book is that it could have done a little more to make it clearer about which sites are free for which services, and what you have to pay for. In general, this is described, but being a cheap investor (see my review of Scrooge Investing) I just like to use the free resources. So I will spend some time here at sites that cost money, before realizing that I need not return.
Obviously, a book like this will quickly become obsolete, so get it now and use it now!
After you start using this great guide, I suggest that you think about other areas in your life where you may not be fully using on-line resources. How about career planning, job hunting, starting a business, buying items you use everyday, planning trips, getting custom products, and solving problems? You should then find ways to make the Internet help you in those areas as well. Otherwise, the loss is yours! The Internet can provide the basics for developing many 2,000 percent solutions!

The old Quaker adage, "Let your life speak," spoke to author Parker J. Palmer when he was in his early 30s. It summoned him to a higher purpose, so he decided that henceforth he would live a nobler life. "I lined up the most elevated ideals I could find and set out to achieve them," he writes. "The results were rarely admirable, often laughable, and sometimes grotesque.... I had simply found a 'noble' way of living a life that was not my own, a life spent imitating heroes instead of listening to my heart."
Thirty years later, Palmer now understands that learning to let his life speak means "living the life that wants to live in me." It involves creating the kind of quiet, trusting conditions that allow a soul to speak its truth. It also means tuning out the noisy preconceived ideas about what a vocation should and shouldn't be so that we can better hear the call of our wild souls. There are no how-to formulas in this extremely unpretentious and well-written book, just fireside wisdom from an elder who is willing to share his mistakes and stories as he learned to live a life worth speaking about. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
With wisdom, compassion, and gentle humor, Parker J. Palmer invites us to listen to the inner teacher and follow its leadings toward a sense of meaning and purpose. Telling stories from his own life and the lives of others who have made a difference, he shares insights gained from darkness and depression as well as fulfillment and joy, illuminating a pathway toward vocation for all who seek the true calling of their lives.
Customer Reviews:
An Excellent and Inspiring Book!.......2007-06-25
This is an excellent book for reading and reflecting on life. The words will grip your inner soul and move you to a higher state of thinking and consciousness. Along the way, the author uses poetry to awaken the spirit. This book is real and has practical applications regarding life for almost everyone. I heard the author speak at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, regarding education and he is an excellent speaker. This is an educator who removes the secret veil, exposes what life is about, and the level of aspiration we should strive for. I highly recommend this book. Other excellent books to read are: "Trilogy Moments for the Mind, Body and Soul," "The language of Poetry Forms" by Tree Good, and "Everyday Miracles" by Okubo.
Spiritual self-reflection.......2007-03-25
Palmer's book would be ideal for a rainy day read or for taking on a private retreat. He shares much learning from his life experiences. It is not a book about doing. Rather, it is a way to be integrated in one's living. One can learn to listen to their inner voice by what goes well and by recognizing one's limitations. Much food for thought.
Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation.......2007-03-10
Parker Palmer does a wonderful job in a concise why of providing us a guide to how we can learn to value our own experiences and truly listen to our inner voice. Listen in such a way as to be guided by what we are sensing and felling to help us speak through our life work and work life in ways that are self fulfilling and enriching. A very thought provoking and touching look at his own inner journey.
Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation.......2007-02-09
A great look at who we are and should be
calling as a gift to receive not a goal to achieve.......2007-01-18
Here is a book that I wish I had read twenty years ago on that perennial Christian conundrum faced by so many: what is God's will for me in my vocational life? I hasten to add that I am not sure that at that stage of my life I could or would have understood its wisdom. For the most part Christians try to answer this question about God's vocational guidance by going "outside" of ourselves to external matters like my skills, the advice of others, perhaps some tests, and so on. But from his Quaker tradition Palmer urges us to go "inside" ourselves to matters of the heart. When we pursue the former path a "false" self often follows the expectations that others have of us and so distorts the "true" self. Vocation, in short, is not "a goal that I pursue. It means a calling that I hear" (p. 4) or "a gift to be received" (p. 10). We discover this call or gift, writes Palmer, by listening to our life, by discovering the true self God made each of us to be, rather than by soliciting the acceptance and approval of others about what we "ought" to do. Palmer is a gifted story teller and writer, and shares liberally from his own vocational pilgrimage, warts and all. Entire chapters on clinical depression and "when way closes" (a Quaker aphorism) were helpful. A final chapter uses the seasons as a metaphor for the vocational life, reminding us as we move inevitably through fall, winter, spring and summer that, contrary to all culture tells us, we do not only "manufacture" our life, but would do well to "grow" it.

Customer Reviews:
Better then Bass.......2006-11-10
This is a very handy book. As a forensic science graduate student I have been frustrated with Bass for a long time. The pictures are just so bad. The bone manual gives you the great pictures fo White's human osteology in a nice compact Bass sized field book! A great book to add to your library!
Good reference for overall study of forensic osteology.......2006-11-06
This book was quite helpful in the sense that it gives you an overall knowlege of forensic osteology. If you need a book on forensic osteology, this is one of the books that I would suggest.
Handy book.......2006-07-22
As a physical anthropology grad student, I am finding this book to be very useful. The hardcover text is great, but this is transportable and packed with information. Would highly recommend it to anyone in forensics, anthropology.
The Human Bone Manual.......2006-03-01
this book would be best accompanied by an anatomy book. To really get a good visual, it's a good idea to review muscle attachments and origin sites in a(n additional) book with color.so My biggest criticism (and it's so easy to criticize) is that while many of the bones are pictured the as the actual size, there are not photographs of the bones articulated with neighboring bones. I found it hard to side bones because of this. So, it's a pretty good book in spite of my harshness, just not by itself.
Fantastic guide........2006-02-12
This manual is a somewhat more consise version of Dr. White's Osteology textbook. Excellent for anyone with any need to understand the human skeleton in depth. Clearly and assessibly written and includes fantastic pictures, indexes of directional terms, etc. Used widely on archaeological digs the world over.

Customer Reviews:
This has nothing to do with Osteopathy !.......1998-07-20
This is not really a book review, but a warning that if you're looking for books on Osteopathy, as I was, this has nothing to do with that topic. The science and Medicine of Osteopathy is that which was founded by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D. in 1872. He later, in 1892 founded the first Osteopathic school of medicine in Kirksville, MO. His Osteopathic Medicine was conceived as an alternative to the then horrible medicine of the day which consisted of giving mostly very toxic substances such as mercury to "cure" diseases. He invented a unique form of manipulation, which D.D. Palmer (the founder of Chiropractic) learned part of from him, then went off to another state to declare 2 years later that he had invented Chiropractic. (Chiropractic is a subset of the manipulative techniques of Osteopathic Medicine, and does not include the current ability to write prescriptions and do surgery which Osteopathic Physicians also have.) This book is about Orthopedic surgery! and bones, Osteopathy is about all of medicine and the manipulation (sometimes) of bones, which is why the "osteo" is in the title. Osteopathic Physicians can become Orthopedic Surgeons if they wish, but they are not interchangeable terms. 'Nuf said.

Book Description
This book covers most skeletal landmarks that are palpable through manual palpation and virtual palpation (i.e., using 3D models generated from medical imaging). Each chapter focuses on a particular bone or segment and includes: a general anatomical presentation of the bone SL (using images showing real specimens and 3D bone models); very detailed descriptions of skeletal landmarks using manual palpation and virtual palpation. These definitions have been written in order to be reproducible. Each section includes detailed descriptions of all palpable skeletal landmarks for the current bone. Each landmark is described on one page. Also each landmark page is labelled by a unique acronym. The latter should be used for further data exchange and programming in order to guarantee that no redundant label exists.

Customer Reviews:
wonderfully entertaining.......1999-10-06
I loved the characters and they sure were characters. Each one was beautifully drawn. They were as crazy a bunch of misfits as I've ever come across and yet they managed to pull off a great scam. I loved the conclusion. It was perfect.
Well developed characters, inventive plot ,great ending........1999-10-05
Normally, I don't buy books written by unknown authors, but after reading the review from California, I decided to try and I,m glad I did. This is a great story full of twists and turns. The author has an ear for real dialogue and his characters are well developed. I always wondered if every survivor of the '60's is now wearing a three-piece suit. Glad to have met some who aren't. By the time I was halfway through the book I couldn't put it down. I agree with the reviewer from Perris, Ca. and add--READ THIS BOOK!-You'll be happy you did. The terrific last chapter will remiain permenantly etched in your memory. This book should be made into a molvie.
This book should be made into a movie.......1999-10-02
A friend turned me on to this story and author. I loved this book and the characters. I cheered for the protagonists and jeered the antangonists, just like you're supposed to with a well-written novel. The author's colorful descriptions are great. My friend and I are still talking and laughing about Wizards of Awes, and it's been over two weeks. This is a funny and suspenseful tale. I loved it!
Finally a great read with a surprize ending ........1999-09-20
A great story line about what lengths corporate America will do to win in the end. It was a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. The book is very discriptive and colorful. It leaves you with the feeling that Paul and Chicago are the guys next door. I have never laughed so hard in my life.
