Customer Reviews:
An indispensable and invaluable reference guide.......2007-10-07
Now in a completely updated and expanded fourth edition, "Federal Resume Guidebook: Strategies For Writing A Winning Federal Electronic Resume, KSAs, And Essays" by federal resume expert, career consultant, and government human resources career trainer Kathryn Kraemer Troutman is a practical and superbly presented compendium of instructions that will readily enable anyone seeking federal employment to maximize the effectiveness of their online resume, analyze federal job announcements, and make the cut for interviews based on an effective presentation of their experiences and qualifications. Job seekers are provided with an illustrative wealth of federal resume samples, detailed procedures, and tips. Of special note is Troutman's advice for those transitioning from military service to a federal career, and for those transitioning from Wage Grade to General Schedule positions. With instruction on preparing for the new Behavioral Interview process and strategies for advancing a federal career, the "Federal Resume Guidebook" continues to be an indispensable and invaluable reference guide for job seekers regardless of the federal position being sought after. Simply stated, the "Federal Resume Guidebook" is essential for anyone seeking federal employment and is a fundamentally necessary addition to personal, professional, academic, governmental job center, and community library Jobs/Careers reference collections.
Good but we'll see.........2007-07-04
I found this the to be the best book on the federal application process yet. The examples were detailed as well as the explainations with plenty of examples for the professional GS jobs. As far as it's effectiveness... we'll see.
Great book.......2007-05-31
I just wanted to say I got more reaction from the new improved Fed Resume. However, I also changed my regular business resume also and got a job in the regular business world first before the Federal employment world. I do think it works and when I am done with my education, I plan on continuing using this method.
Write a Winning Resume.......2007-05-24
I purchased the book and what a difference it made in creating a resume with some pop. The chapters were easy to follow step by step. It really helped me transform my resume into something worth reading. Also the comments in each chapter were very helpful in bringing to light the many hats I wear at my current job and I was able to translate that knowledge into the qualifications described in the job announcements. It is well worth the investment. If you are truly serious about getting a job with the federal government, then this book is a must.
Contains rare information for scientists.......2007-05-11
When I was a recent Ph. D in Ecology just a few years ago, there was almost nothing out there on CV's and resumes for scientists. There still is very little. That's why I wrote a chapter for this book on converting your CV into a Federal Resume. We scientists can use all the advice we can get concerning job application materials. So for me that's what makes this book so valuable. It's coverage is comprehensive, including help for scientists. Hence instead of just targeting the largest demographic of job seekers, like the business resume books do, this book is helpful to everyone. For beginners, including scientists, it's essential. But I'm not just a writer, I'm a client! The step-by-step process for Federal application materials that this book guides you through helped me get a GS-11 position with NOAA and a GS-12 position with EPA. So, scientists, there you go -empirical evidence that it works.

Legal Transplants: An Approach to Comparative Law, Second Edition
ASIN: 1841132926 |
Book Description
Essays on the theory and practice of comparative law.
Book Description
The authors will provide both the reader with an appreciation of spacesuits and US suit efforts, through development challenges to their role in space exploration. The text will explain how the routine use of clothing provides a link to the function of spacesuits and why spacesuits are far more than garments. They are a last refuge for survival in disaster or a personalized spacecraft that allows direct contact and interaction with everything beyond our world. Successfully meeting the challenges to creating safe, reliable and comfortable spacesuits is an ongoing effort that has spanned over four decades.
The book will detail the technical evolution of U.S. spacesuits from their roots in high altitude aviation and vacuum tube development to the present day, with an additional look into the future. This primary source of spacesuit information will explain the function, historical development, and use of spacesuits from a worldwide perspective in a readable way.
The story includes many technically and historically interesting efforts that never reached flight, and were either misunderstood or not widely reported.
Customer Reviews:
Dressed for Space.......2007-09-11
This is a highly detailed book on the history of the development of US spacesuits. The book covers not just operational suits used in the space program, but also prototype development to test various concepts.
Compared to Russian spacesuit development, it is apparent that the US was able to expend considerably more in development of designs and resulted in a much richer array of design ideas. Particularly interesting is the issue of joint mobility, especially with gloves.
The illustrations are good, although I personally would have liked more details on the actually engineering of the suit components. Although I understand cost constraints, this book would have benefited from clear color photos of the suits and components, rather than just B&W. However this is a nit pick to what is a very informative book.
"Fly me to the Moon..........2007-03-12
...and let me play among the stars..."
But how to dress for such jaunts? In theory the idea of a space suit is as old as the idea of spaceflight itself. Actual manned spaceflight is four and a half decades old, but there has been a need for protective suits for high-flying pilots for quite a lot more more than half a century now. And here is the development history of these different garments for gentlemen and nowadays also ladies to wear at any function inside and outside the walls of a spacecraft. Here they all are, from the Imperial German Flying Corp Oxygen Pipe System, ca 1918, to the University of Maryland MX-2 suit prototype of 2002. All the more than 100 designs in almost bewildering detail, with specifications of most of them, thankfully, in both imperial psis and BTUs and (albeit within parentheses) metric measurements. Spacesuits have come a long way, but there is still way to go, before us normal gents and our ladies will feel comfortably dressed for a little play in weightless space or a stroll on the lunar surface. Indeed a "must" book for any aficionado and armchair astronaut!
Great Reference!!!!.......2006-03-10
This book is a great book and a Great companion to Springer-Praxis other space books, especially the volume on Russian Spacesuits and "Spacewalks". It has taught me so much that I never knew and I loved the many pages written about conceptual designs.
Spacesuit Information.......2006-02-18
For a book on a techncial subject, it appears to be well laid out and easy to read. I liked that it took the time to explain the basics surrounding spacesuits. Finding accurate information on spacesuit, their development, use and program history is difficult. This book, like "Russian Spacesuits" from the same publisher, was written by career spacesuit engineers and the text seems to reflect that depth of knowledge.

Book Description
Dr. Jonathan Sarfati, who expertly defended creation in Refuting Evolution (which has sold over 350,000 copies), goes to bat once again in Refuting Evolution 2. Aimed specifically at the evolutionarily biased PBS television series "Evolution," Sarfati adroitly makes light of the inaccuracies and fallacies of evolutionary theory, and offers sound creationist interpretation of the facts. This book also updates creationist "arguments" such as the "plesiosaur" reeled in by the Japanese fishing boat, the peppered moths, the "men have one less rib than women" adage, and much more. Here is a priceless resource for those involved in the ongoing creation/evolution debate.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best refutations of Darwinism.......2007-07-25
Sarfati's books are concise, clear, and at no time do they compromise principles in the way that proponents of ID do.
I always knew that Darwinism was somehow wrong, but -- not being a scientist or some other kind of expert -- I couldn't say what exactly bothered me about it. This meant that the Darwinists could always win their arguments by resorting to "consensus" and accusing those who disagreed with them of being primitive.
It took reading James Perloff's and Jonathan Sarfati's succinct and well-articulated books to give me the tools to counter Darwinism from a position of confidence based on knowledge and clearly articulated principles.
Brilliant!.......2007-06-07
This puts the "smack-down" on the faithful fanatics of evolution! You can't help but understand/comprehend that the so called "scientists" of this day have sold us a lie and we are suckers to believe the propaganda of public education.
Brilliant!.......2007-01-29
Jonathan Sarfati wrote this book to specifically refute some of the claims made by Scientific American, and PBS TV. There are three sections corresponding to three claims, and the chapters in the sections are rebuttals of specific arguments.
He is very systematic and logical, as a national chess champion is apt to be. He quotes the claim made for evolution or against creationism, and then step by step refutes it. He also has an appendix listing several arguments that creationists use, that are invalid. If we are going to defend our position, we must get our facts straight!
I enjoyed the book very much. I learned a lot about science and biology, which is usually hard for me to study. Sarfati points out that just because you can demonstrate that micro-evolution occurs, that doesn't prove macro-evolution. The fact that the fittest animals survive doesn't prove evolution, either. Before you can "prove" evolution by showing changes within species, you have to know the origins, and that's what the evolutionists can't prove. Also, he shows that although species do change, they aren't gaining any new information. Even though they may be improving, it's always through a loss of information.
WOW - Another masterpiece from Dr. Sarfati! .......2007-01-04
Dr. Sarfati's follow-up to "Refuting Evolution" deals blow after blow to the religion of evolution.
This book exposes the irrefutable reality that evolution is taught as scientific fact, although it is really a religion. It exposes the absurd head-in-the-sand dogmatic teaching of the theory of evolution one argument at a time.
Through thoroughly footnoted and documented proof, he debunks the following three FALSE Claims: "1. Evolution is Science" "2. Evolution Is Well Supported by Evidence," and "3. 'Problems with Evolution' are Illusory."
To disprove each of those claims, he thoroughly shows the following sub-claims are WRONG:
Claim 1: "Creationism is Religion, not Science." (Wrong). "Evolution is Compatible with Christian Religion." (Wrong). "Evolution is True Science, not Just Theory." (Wrong.)
Claim 2: "Natural Selection Leads to Speciation." (Wrong). "Some Mutations Are Beneficial." (Wrong). "Common Design Points to Common Ancestry" (Wrong). "'Bad Design' is Evidence of Leftovers from Evolution." "Fossils Prove Evolution." (Wrong).
Claim 3: "Evolution Is Probable." (Wrong). "Complexity Doesn't Disprove Evolution." (Wrong). "Sex Evolved" (Wrong). "Mankind Evolved" (Wrong).
This is a good overview of some of the best evidence against evolution and for Creation. A MUST read for anyone interested in the subject.
Jonathan Sarfati doesn't refute very well.......2006-09-13
Jonathan Sarfati says in this book, Refuting Evolution 2, "Evolutionists brag that natural selection is the best studied of the evolutionary mechanisms, but these studies show that it has nothing to do with evolution of more complex life forms! All we observe it doing is removing information, not adding it. " Later he goes on to say, "Once again, there is no new information, but sorting and loss of already existing information." It seems like creationists like Jonathan are hooked into believing that this is a problem for evolutionists. What creationists need to know before they go on any further is to look at what evolutionists have to say about this. Evolutionist Steve Olson says, "Mutations can occur in other ways. Parts of our DNA can move around and alter existing sequences. A stray bit of radiation or a nasty chemical can garble a section of DNA. The cell has repair mechanisms that attempt to fix such damage. But these mechanisms don't always leave the DNA the same as before. The result is a new mutation." I think creationists like Jonathan Sarfati knows that this happens but fails to understand the evolutionist view and that is, they believe that the reshuffling or loss of DNA can create new species. Jonathan Sarfati goes on to claim that, "speciation has nothing to do with real evolution, because it involves sorting and loss of genetic information, rather than new information." This so-called new information is not what evolutionists believe in. Speciation is yes the loss or reshuffling of genetic information but also the gaining of extra parts or functions. Paul Berg and Maxine Singer say in their book, Dealing With Genes: The Language of Heredity, "The modification of the DNA sequence of germ cells through changes in base pairs or rearrangements underlies the emergence of altered or new traits, and thus of new species, in the course of evolution." Now, are we creationists misunderstanding what evolutionists really believe? Maybe we need to go further in these studies with an open mind. What creationists don't tell you is that they want to believe that increase of genetic information is problem but really it's a problem for young earth creationists because they have to twist the truth in order to get people to believe that there's a problem with believing in a old earth and the Bible at the same time. I'm not sure I can trust young earth creationists if there going to twist the truth. This is mostly why I'm an old earth creationist. I'll end by saying, don't trust this book.

The Dilbert of technical writing.......2003-07-20
Irreverent, funny, witty. Confirmed my suspicions about what the technical writing occupation was all about. If you're a Dilbert fan, what are you waiting for? Rush to the book store. If you're unfamiliar with Dilbert, then please read on. For those unfamiliar with Dilbert-type humor, hi-tek presents an un-politically correct observation of work and the high tech industry. Hi-tek can also be acerbic and cutting, yet with a clear understanding of the dreams and aspirations we all keep hidden. Clearly displays an underlying understanding, regard, and empathy for the everyday worker. Just like Dilber, it functions on several levels-- succeeding in giving a true representation of the high technology environment and the technical writing occupation in particular. But don't take my word for it--rush off to the bookstore and buy it.
satire of our times.......2003-05-23
This book represents very good entertainment and is also a stinging satire of our scary times. The author mercilessly exposes the high tech culture with Swiftian satire and Rabelaisian wild humor.
With razor sharp wit and bawdy narrative, the author describes a dehumanized world were people communicate by emails and acronyms
and became more and more disconnected from those around them.
Captures the Essence of the High Tech Culture!!.......2003-05-15
What a great "tongue in cheek" view of work life in the high-tech world. The characters, the situations are so "real"!! A great read!!
An original, funny, amusing satire of the Hi-Tech world.......2003-05-11
I loved this hilarious satire of the Tech environment. The characters were described with irreverance and wit. The off-color humour delighted me, as ANON portrays, as only an insider can...the inner workings of the Tekkies and their culture. Not for high techers only, I enjoyed the psychologically amusing characters, well developed and joyfully politically in-correct. I see Kevin Kline as the narrator in the future movie based on the book.!
Real comedy in real high-tech.......2003-03-23
Before I begin, I must say that I worked with the author at one time, so use that fact as a guide when reading my review.
The bottom-line is that this book was extremely funny, in a totally twisted sort of way. Having known the author from a previous work experience, I had an idea of what to expect, but that idea was quickly reached and surpassed.
The story and characters are partly based on fact, although many things are exagerrated. Yet, it is the exagerration of many things that sheds the comic light on the participants and events of the story.
Working in the high tech industry, I know first-hand that there are some strange characters that you will meet in your travels. But this bunch of folks that are described in the book are ones that you will encounter maybe once in your life time.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants some comic relief from their daily grind. It does a good job of showing the reader how to find humor in the seemingly tedious tasks that face us all every day.
