The Handbook of Fixed Income Securities
ASIN: 1403947252
Release Date: 2005-08-11 |
Book Description
This book is a revised and updated guide to some of the most important issues in the capital markets today, with an emphasis on fixed-income instruments such as index-linked bonds, asset backed securities, mortgage backed securities and related products such as credit derivatives. However, fundamental concepts in equity market analysis, foreign exchange and money markets are also covered to provide a comprehensive overview. The focus is on analysis and valuation techniques, presented for the purposes of practical application. The book includes an accompanying CD-ROM with RATE software, designed to introduce readers to yield curve modelling. It also includes calculators for vanilla interest rate swaps and caps.
Customer Reviews:
Very bad book as a simple introduction.......2005-06-25
It seems to me that I bought a CD not a book. The book could be throw it away. I?ll keep the CD. My rate is 2 stars.
Excellent all-round coverage for all practitioners.......2004-03-12
A good all-round book on bonds, equities, modelling and etc etc. Very good value for money. The CD-R in the back has a yield curve model and swap calculator which is a good teaching tool.
Poor coverage.......2004-02-24
This is a very introductory book for practitioners who do not know the very basics, such as 'models', 'regression', etc.
The content overlaps with the author's other text Bond Market Securities. Corresponding chapters are identical.
Better alternatives are Jarrow, Hull.
Excellent for market professionals.......2004-01-07
This is a detailed, complex and focused guide to the analysis of financial market instruments. It is great for market professionals such as myself - I work in a hedge fund of funds team and its overview approach to all finance instruments, debt and equity, is great.
Basic.......2004-01-06
This is a basic book that may be good for new people in the market, but professionals will find this lacking.

Book Description
PLANNING SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS AND EVENTS Planning a meeting or event is no easy task. Just ask any of the administrative staffers who are increasingly being asked to do it. One minor mistake -- a plane ticket that doesn't arrive on time, not enough vegetarian meals at the luncheon, the wrong kind of audio-visual equipment -- can mean big trouble. Now this handy little how-to guide takes secretaries and assistants through the entire process step-by-step. From site selection and registration dos and don'ts to negotiating with vendors and food and beverage planning, this book gives them everything they need to get a meeting planned right. Packed with floor plans, checklists, glossaries of industry- specific terms, lists of resources, and more, Planning Successful Meetings and Events is sure to transform any take-charge assistant into the Martha Stewart of meeting and event planning. It's a good thing. ANN J. BOEHME (Valley Stream, NY) is founder and president of Meetings and Management Techniques Plus, a meeting planning firm specializing in program development, marketing, and program planning.
Customer Reviews:
Great planning resource.......2005-08-05
Since my position recently acquired the duties of meeting planning, I have found this book to be written in a manner that is easy to reference. It is written by an individual who actually did the type of job most planners hold so you get realistic and practical tips. Well written and I will definitely use on a regular basis.
great overview guide.......2003-04-01
This book is really easy to follow, with checklists and short paragraphs on every area. It's a great resource for those who are getting started in planning or those who want a handy checklist to make sure they don't forget areas. Professional planners may find much of the information basic, but a good refresher.
A very de-tailed and practical manual for meeting planning........1999-07-20
A very de-tailed and practical manual of meeting planning. Could add more chapters on languages and interpretation and master of ceremonies to meet the need of international events planners.

Complete Idiot's Guide to the Sun (Complete Idiot's Guide to)
ASIN: 1552979415 |
Book Description
A practical day-by-day guide to observing the sun safely.
The
Sun Observer's Guide is a practical guide that explains how to safely observe the sun: what to look for and how to record and photograph solar images and eclipses. The book is written in non-technical language and is ideal for novice observers.
Expensive equipment is not essential to observe the Sun, and the necessary safety procedures are easy to follow. The book describes the equipment required to observe the Sun using visible light technologies such as telescopes, binoculars, and simple pin-hole cameras, as well as non-white light devices such as spectroscopes and hydrogen-alpha filters.
How to photograph the Sun is explained in detail and includes:
- Descriptions of the equipment required
- Type of camera to choose
- Which lenses and filters to use
- Recommended exposure times.
A chapter dedicated to solar eclipses explains why they occur, what can be seen and how to observe them safely. Dates of upcoming eclipses are provided. The interaction between the Sun and the Earth is explored in detail - from the obvious (climates and seasons) to the dramatic (magnetic storms and aurora).
The
Sun Observer's Guide concludes with a chapter on professional solar astronomy. Amateur astronomers will be fascinated to read about the research that is currently being undertaken and to discover the value placed by professional astronomers on observations made by amateurs. Beautiful images taken by solar spacecraft are displayed here.
The
Sun Observer's Guide is an informative and practical introduction to an engaging hobby.
Customer Reviews:
ok.......2007-05-13
I guess I've been spoiled by Terrence Dickinson's books. Anyways, this is an informative book. I would have liked it better if the book was bigger; the font was at least 12 (instead of 10) and more pictures and labeling. But still a great book if you're trying to learn more about the sun.

Solar Observing Techniques (Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series)
ASIN: 1852335270 |
Book Description
The Sun is the closest star to Earth, and the only one we can observe in any sort of detail. As such it is a fascinating field of study. It also has the practical advantage, unlike every other astronomical object, of being visible in the daytime! After an introduction to the Sun as a star, the book concentrates entirely on practical aspects for amateur observers: the equipment needed, how to set it up, how to record observations, and how to image the Sun with conventional or digital cameras.

Easy to understand, yet LOTS of great Info!.......2007-08-17
This is a great little book (as are all Golden Guides).
We are only using Celestron giant binoculars on a tripod, but were able to find Jupiter from this book. Then as a bonus, saw 3 moons of Jupiter & identified them from this book!
Also was able to find Arcturus with instructions from this book, & multiple others, & constellations.
Don't let the size fool you. I grew up with Golden Books, They are better than most anything I've read. College level information, yet written for a child to understand.
All the Golden Books are great!

Great starter book of stars.......2005-10-14
This book is an excellent starter book on stars. I received it as a kid and I've held onto my first copy of this book for 30 years! It finally wore out and I ordered an updated version. I live in New Hampshire and we have a great night sky. I use this book as a quick reference guide to see what constellations are in the sky now. Also, the pictures in the book make it easy to "see" what the constellation looks like. This book is not good for tracking planets - where they are, when. That's more advanced than this book is. This book is an excellent primer.
Good beginner's guide to constellations & astronomy.......1998-09-14
This is an excellent starter book for stargazers, and fits into your pocket.

Book Description
The second volume of the collected papers of W D Hamilton, each one introduced by an autobiographical essay. Hamilton is the most important theoretical biologist of the 20th century and his papers, not especially numerous, have had, and continue to exert, an enormous influence. Many were originally published in obscure and inaccessible places. Volume 1 (OUP, still in print) was devoted mainly to selection for social behaviour, the first half of Hamilton's life's work; Volume 2 is on the other half, on sex and sexual selection, and it includes the 18 papers published between 1980 and 1991. Each paper is accompanied by a specially written introduction describing why the work was done, how the paper came to be written, and its eventual fate. The introductions, written in an accessible, non-technical style, include history, opinion, and excerpts from Hamilton's life.
Customer Reviews:
A brilliant sequel..........2002-12-05
...marred only by the untimely death of the author. Volume Two focuses on the second half of the extraordinary career of the MOST extraordinary W.D. Hamilton. The papers presented here are almost without exception key components of much of what many of us regard as an appropriate evolutionary approach to the origins of sex, kinship, disease response etc. and the book would be worth having just to get all of these in a convenient bound form instead of the dog-eared xeroxes that doubtless clog up many of your files. Beyond that however we also get more of hamilton's delightful insights into just how he came up with an idea, who he was talking to, where he was while he was working on a concept, what he thought of a piece of work years later, etc. etc, -in other words all the "gossip" that when you know it makes science a real human endeavor, and when it is left out tends to leave many of us cold. Above all else one gets the sense that here was someone who was without question a genius, but was also a lovely person as well -someone with a sense of humor and a sense of his own mortality, who at the same time could revel in the sheer beauty of an idea, or the notion of life as a cosmic joke that must nonetheless be taken seriously. Anyone who is interested in the DOING of science as well as the content would be well advised to browse through this book. The intro by Dawkins is frankly skippable, but the rest? Sheer joy!

Book Description
There is increasing evidence that branching processes in nature proceed by similar mechanisms in many seemingly different systems. This is the first comprehensive book dealing with this topic - it encompasses all fields of science, investigating branching morphogenesis and pattern formation in cells, plants, organs and river networks to name but a few. Renowned international researchers have contributed to this volume and taken care that the lectures remain accessible to graduate students and nonspecialist researchers.

Book Description
As the late Cecil B De Mille once said, 'The Bible is the greatest story ever told', which makes it the best-selling book in the history of publishing. 'The Book of Beth' is a 'biblical tail', in which Harry Greene seeks 'carnal knowledge' from Beth Gold - a sex therapist who practises only 'surrogate sex', which she provides to most of her male clients. Beth confesses to an intimacy problem, for which she is in deep psychoanalysis; it began with a hatred of her father and blossomed from there. In Part Two, called 'Good-bye Bessie', we witness a reverse Genesis, which is the best-selling 'biblical tail' for 'The Book of Beth'.
