Fine.......2005-09-08
The book was as promised, and it arrived in the promised window of time. I'm satisfied.
Jonathan Cohen, Ph.D., Columbia University.......2001-09-09
This is an excellent book. It provides 'state of the art and science' information about past and emerging work in emotioanl intelligence and competencies. I highly recommend it.
If you are serious about learning the background to E.I........2001-06-14
The Handbook of Emotional Intelligence is a must read for anyone who is serious about emotional intelligence. Through this book, Bar-On and Parker have brought together a world-class collection of academics, psychologists and researchers. Before the Handbook was written, researchers and practitioners who wanted to get to the bottom of emotional intelligence needed to look up thousands of sources to even start their research. Bar-On and Parker have completed a sterling effort - the chapters include hundreds of research studies and the links are made between many different strands of research on intelligence and emotion and they are brought together in a 'tome' of useful information. This book is not a light piece of bedtime reading. It is a text book which should be on the shelf of anyone who wants to hear direct from the key researchers who have helped to create the field of Emotional Intelligence, so well popularised by Daniel Goleman in his book 'Emotional Intelligence'.
More information about this book.......2001-03-14

Thanks before and I'm waiting for your good news as reply.
Essential resource.......2000-09-28
This is the essential resource for a summary evaluation of research and emerging measures for emotional intelligence. Anyone with an interest in this fundamental human capacity should consult this book.
Book Description
In
Disasters and Accidents in Manned Spaceflight, David Shayler examines the challenges that face all crews as they prepare and execute their missions. The book covers all aspects that make up spaceflight by a human crew - training, launch to space, survival in space and return from space - followed by a series of case histories which tell of the major incidents in each of those categories over the past 40 years. The sixth section looks at the International Space Station and how it is planned, to try and prevent, as far as possible, major incidents occuring during the lifetime of the space station, and at the difficulties facing a settlement on the Moon or Mars during the next 40 years.
Customer Reviews:
Encyclopedic listing of 'problems' in space.......2001-06-27
A detailed history of every accident with space hardware. From stratospheric balloon experiments and rocket planes to the space shuttle.
Includes extensive material on Soviet space history and accidents which may not be available elsewhere and may be worth the price of the book to those interested in space exploration.
The information is logically divided into training, launch, orbit and reentry with summaries and what was learned from it.
Is it possible to know too much about an accident? Well, I learned more than I wanted to about the Apollo 1 and Challenger accidents (I wanted to get past them because they were so tragic) but there is a great depth of detail to learn from here.
Stories of people reaching for that little extra bit of courage to deal with the worst case scenario. And what happens when space age technology doesn't quite work and what we can learn from it.
An Extremely Interesting Book.......2001-03-06
While the title of this book may seem a bit gruesome, I found this book to be one of the most interesting books related to manned spaceflight. Oftentimes, we hear about the great triumphs of the space program, but unless it is a great disaster, the problems encountered in spaceflight are often overlooked. This book covers all aspects of spaceflight (training, flight, EVA, etc.) from the early pioneering days right up to the present. The book includes a great deal on the Soviet space program that I have not seen before.
The book opens with the daring adventures of the early manned ballooning experiments and the goal of the setting a record altitude. I was quite impressed with what was accomplished in the 1920's and 1930's. The book then proceeds to the various experimental X-planes and the problems encountered with these projects.
After this brief, but very informative introduction, the book examines the era of manned spaceflight. The book is divided into four main areas: training, launch, space travel, and re-entry. Each of the main areas examines all the major and minor problems encountered with these aspects of spaceflight. As one would expect, the book covers the major spaceflight disasters, like Apollo 1, the Challenger explosion, Apollo 13, but it also includes even the smallest problems like the lunar explorers falling down or urine leaks in the shuttle EVA suits. It was interesting to see that the have been many more problems, though minor ones, in manned spaceflight than has been reported in the press.
The book contains numerous rarely seen photographs and drawings. If you're interested in manned space flight, this book provides a fascinating and unique view of the dangerous side of space travel.
Book Description
This book reflects the modern tendency of biochemical studies and experimental design to be more heavily based on the nucleic acids and genetic approaches. Boyer enhances student's understanding of biological processes by initiating the study of biochemistry with nucleic acids (especially DNA) playing a more central role and treating other biomolecules as direct or indirect products. Boyer's lively presentation captures students' interest, gives them a current and practical sense of biochemistry, and presents applications that they can use in their careers and everyday lives. An accompanying interactive CD-ROM/Web site provides additional opportunities for study and enrichment.
Boyer includes all the topical coverage usually provided in current biochemistry courses, but modifies the sense of focus and balance of coverage. The result is a text of exceptional relevance for students in allied-health fields, agricultural studies, and related programs.

Book Description
Martin Hammond, a brilliant but aging thoracic surgeon and Aaron Willoughby, , well heeled wheeler dealer par excellence, meet at the back window of a care facility. They make their escape together and wind up on Aaron's friend Leona Miller's doorstep with the announcement, We're running away from home together, Leona - the OLD FOLK' HOME!
Customer Reviews:
Wickedly Funny .......2006-11-21
I loved Recycling Humanity. After reading it, for the first time in my life, I actually looked forward to growing old. The dialog is hilarious; the characters are full of energy; the plot starts with a wonderful twist and keeps on twisting.
The story begins when Aaron Willoughby is delivered to an old folk's home by the machinations of his scheming daughter-in-law. Blanche is one of those characters you love to hate. Fortunately, she quickly gets hers, when Aaron makes her foot the bill for his "incarceration." While Blanche is still sputtering, Aaron has already planned his escape.
In short order, Aaron meets another societal throwaway--a gifted surgeon forced into early retirement by a medical conglomerate. These two codgers are too old and worn out to become dangerous outlaws--aren't they?
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
This indomitable duo bust out and in short order have set up a secret business based on teh surgeon's skills--and are reforming the world by recycling humanity. The gist of this business is too wickedly funny an idea to give away, but blackmailers, child molesters and corporate executives, keep an eye on your spare parts. For the first time in your life, you're going to contribute something useful to the world.
Cheryl Swanson, Author, Death Game and Reviewer with Gotta Read Review
When you need a chuckle ... .......2005-07-10
What if? What if two old codgers go on the lam from a nursing home so they can do a few good deeds without benefit of bureaucracy, inside or outside the law?
Aaron is a wealthy entrepreneur who's hiding his assets from a greedy daughter-in-law. Martin is a skilled surgeon ousted in a corporate takeover of his hospital. They set up shop in a friend's basement and off they go, trolling hobo hangouts and soup kitchens for organ, blood and skin donors. Recycling humanity, they call it.
It's a joyride that can't last forever, but while it does - let's just say that the author's imagination runs wild. I hope she had as much fun writing it as I had reading it.
Pat Browning, author of FULL CIRCLE, a Penny Mackenzie Mystery
At Last-some heroes over sixty!.......2003-03-17
At last! A novel where the two heroes are from the fastest growing segment of our population-sixty to a hundred and sixty! Not only are Martin and Aaron not ready to rock on the front porch, they rock their surroundings by doing some good and having fun using their knowledge and money to recycle what needs it the worst - humanity! Unbound by small print, corporate rules, government regulations, paperwork and other assorted trash, they right some wrongs and do what the rest of us would like to do to help those that need it the worst. Good book. Get one. Enjoy!

From the supplier: The emerging field of industrial ecology is concerned with the way industrial systems produce and handle waste. It also seeks to develop more efficient ways to reuse recycled materials, incorporating waste reduction and recycling into the design process. Industrial systems are analogous to ecological systems. The most successful ones develop complicated webs of productions, waste and reuse. There needs to be more long-range planning and research to create strategies for reducing the environment and economic hazards of too much waste.
