Sawyer's Internal Auditing: The Practice of Modern Internal Auditing
ASIN: 0471521329 |
Book Description
This is the fifth edition of this respected reference in internal auditing. Addressing the increasingly important role internal auditors are playing in corporate America-today's internal auditor is responsible for creating higher standards of professional conduct and for greater protection against inefficiency, misconduct, illegal activity, and fraud-this edition clearly shows how to do the best job possible.

Fundamentals of Control and Audit Risk.......2000-10-09
This book is excelent. The information included are according to this era. I recommeded for the students and for the professional as a reference book. No one other books that I read include a chapter for operational auditing.
Book Description
This new, third edition of Jack Phillips's classic Handbook of Training Evaluation and Measurement Methods shows the reader not only how to design, implement, and assess the effectiveness of HRD programs, but how to ultimately measure their return on investment (ROI). Each chapter has been revised and updated to include additional research, expanded coverage, and new examples of Dr. Phillips's case studies. Seven entirely new chapters have also been added, focusing largely on ROI.
Customer Reviews:
Everything you need to know!.......2002-09-09
Many books on program evaluation focus on complicated techniques, theories, and processes. Phillips' 'Handbook' presents training evaluation in a practical, useful manner. Each chapter clearly presents the whys and hows of training evaluation. He presents the research fundamentals, but also considers the feasibility of many processes used by researchers--offering options to those of us who need evaluation, but work in the 'real-world'. This is by far the best book on evaluation!
Best handbook on training evaluation available........2001-10-15
The 3rd edition of the Handbook of Training Evaluation and Measurement Methods is the most comprehensive text on the process to evaluate training programs. The book is used in organizations as well as colleges and universities to help practitioners and managers of training evaluation understand the process as well as the importance of evaluating all training programs. If it's worth doing -- it's worth measuring! This book is definitely worth buying!
Handbook of Training Evaluation and Measurement Methods (Imp.......2000-06-15
I have been for more than 10 years working with clients in the training & education area and it is important to measure the ROI on training. Corporate accounts needs to have tangible ways to compare different training initiatives and this books helps consultants and clients to show results.

Book Description
The Practical Astronomer's Deep-sky Companion is an essential item of equipment for deep-sky observers, whether they are interested in imaging or just sightseeing. This large-format full-colour book is designed to be taken out into the field during observing to provide essential detailed, concentrated information for finding and imaging interesting deep-sky objects. Organised by constellation, each spread features the most interesting objects, with images, information, position, locator maps, recommended exposure times for telescopes of various apertures, and much more!
Customer Reviews:
A useful reference.......2005-03-12
This book is designed with the amateur astronomer in mind. But it is useful for professionals as well.
For each of the nearly 400 objects, it has the Right Ascension (in hours, minutes, and seconds to the tenth of a second, Epoch 2000), the Declination (in degrees, minutes, and seconds to the second, Epoch 2000), the size in arcminutes, the constellation, the type of object, the visual magnitude, a small but useful map of the region including the magnitudes of nearby stars (generally 4 minutes of RA by 1 degree of Dec), a nice color photo of the object, and a short note about it. The objects are organized by constellation. There are also overview maps of each of the constellations. Plenty of care seems to have gone into the preparation of this work.
The book is fun to look at just to admire the photos. I recommend it.
Very good book for beginner and intermediate astronomers.......2003-10-17
I just purchased this book to serve as a guide to observing using my new Meade LX200GPS scope. The book is about 8 1/2" wide by 11" tall by 3/8" thick and contains about 140 pages. It contains information on 45 constellations including for each: a one page map with constellation facts and legend followed by 1 to 3 pages of information on 5 to 15 deep sky objects in that constellation. For each object there is a small 1 3/4" by 1 1/2" thumbnail local star chart map and similar sized thumbnail color picture, plus object related data giving R.A., Dec., size, constellation, type, magnitude and short narrative note. There are about 500 objects in total in the book.
This book will be useful to those who want a list of deep sky objects for observing using medium to large aperture scopes, basic information on those deep sky objects and who like to know what to look for when observing.
My only negative comments are that some (estimated to be about 20%) of the objects are not identified on the large 1 page map of each constellation, and that there is not a full sky key map showing the relative locations of all of the constellations. On the whole, I am pleased with my purchase.
A "Must Have" book for the Amateur Astronomer.......2003-07-28
This is a beautiful book for night time exploring.
It is well produced in full color and a delight to the eye.
It includes listings of thousands of the best deep sky objects,
each with a photo, a detailed map, and a description.
Whether for a backyard observatory, or a casual observer,
this book is a treasure that may become a classic.
Check it out !

Customer Reviews:
Modern Practice of GC.......2007-09-21
This book is an excelent reference source for all aspects of modern GC analysis. It covers topics in great depth but is still easy to read for less expirienced chromatographers. The important parameters are covered in depth (column, optimization, inlet systems) providing enough information to solve most problems. The end of the book has several chapters on application specific techniques such as pharmaceutical or petrochemical analysis. You will probably learn more from this book then you would taking a short course on the subject, and the cost is much less.
Fantastic Resource.......2006-07-22
I work in an analytical lab and usually borrow my texts from the Univ. of WA library in Tacoma rather than have my corporation buy them. This text is easy to read and comprehensive. I showed it to our senior scientist asking if our company should buy this text instead of borrowing it. He looked through it and said yes, that it's always good to have good references.
Great reference book.......2001-04-15
One of the most useful reference book in gas chromatography. The book is written in a fashion that is easy to understand by novice and experienced chromatographers. Wonderful details about mechanism of separations, valuable information on flash vapourization process, and the utilities of the various detectors. All in all, a must have book for those who seriously like to be good in gas chromatography
Excellent in-depth source for chromatographers.......1997-07-31
This book is comprehensive and comprehensible. The information presented is quite current. An excellent job was done updating for the latest edition. The references listed appear thorough, allowing for further investigation of a particular subject of interest. Good balance of theoretical explanation, and also inclusion of commercially available technology. Highly recommended
Book Description
Imagine eating 50 gluttonous Thanksgiving dinners a day-without gaining a pound. If you were a shrew, not only could you eat this much, you would have to. Similarly, while most of us can't hold our breath very long, the Weddell seal can (and sometimes must) remain under water for a full 75 minutes.
These creatures owe their extraordinary capabilities to their need to survive. But these types of talents aren't limited to nonhuman animals. We humans have developed a few reasonably astonishing adaptations of our own. In Why Geese Don't Get Obese, Eric P. Widmaier describes how humans and other creatures have evolved to meet existence-threatening environmental challenges. Surprising examples and a light approach to some serious science make this a delightful look at the extraordinary everyday physiological capabilities of living things. 16 illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Very good.......2006-12-02
This freshly written book about comparative physiology is at its best when describing how some of the basic mechanisms of life - such as circulation, homeostasis and metabolism - work, in distinctly lay terms. Much of it will be familiar territory for anyone who took serious interest in their college biology and chemistry classes, but the organization is fine. Another bright point about "Why Geese" is the clarity and good humor it brings to the subject of evolution. For once, being a packrat served me in some small way: I bought and read about half of this enjoyable book when it came out, then for some reason put it away for five years before finishing it in the last several days.
Practical Applications of Physiology Made Fun!.......2006-05-23
This book uses many interesting examples to illustrate its main points. Widmaier explains the basics of physiology in a practical context so that it is fairly easy to understand. This is one of the better non-fiction reads you will find, as it truly is interesting. I feel that this is a great tool for any biology student or anyone who is just curious about the way things work in an animal's body.
While explaining how things work in the human body and how they could be better, plentiful examples are provided to both amuse and teach the reader. The book addresses everything from how we become obese to the relative rates of metabolism in different species to the circulatory system and stress induced hormones. Widmaier even provides notes to elaborate on things he addresses in his book and provided some bibliographical information on important scientists and their contributions to physiology without making me fall asleep or daydream, which is no small feat.
After reading this book I can appreciate the work of physiologists, especially after reading the epilogue. I also learned many facts about the animal kingdom that would really make me seem smart in school and help clarify different concepts. From this book I learned that small animals such as shrews need to eat more than their body weight everyday because they have such a high metabolism, and that our ancestors developed a defense mechanism against starvation so that when they ate less their metabolism slowed, meaning that dieting can cause us to loose weight more slowly. I also read that fish cough to remove the gung that collects in their gills as it flows through the gills to provide them with oxygen. This book also showed that humans have far inferior senses that many animals because of our forebrain which is currently only found in humans and gives us the smarts to evade predators and get food among other things.
Overall, this book is perfect for someone who is looking for an interesting and intellectual read. Having some kind of background in biology is helpful when reading this book but it is readable by anyone from a middle school student upwards.
insightful and witty.......1999-11-27
A refreshingly insightful and humorous work. One of the cleverest books I've read in years. Mr. Widmaier answers questions I've wondered about in a superlatively witty way that even the layperson can understand.

Book Description
A timely book about a new area of nuclear science exploration, written by 50 scientists active in the field, a book for researchers and graduate students in nuclear physics and chemistry.
Isospin physics entails the exploration of novel phenomena associated with the mass-to-charge, or neutron-to-proton, asymmetry of finite nuclei and nuclear matter. These properties influence the response of nuclei in energetic nuclear collisions, the dynamics of supernovae, as well as the structure and evolution of neutron stars. The ultimate goal of this new field of study is to generate an understanding of the nuclear many-body system in terms of an isospin-dependent nuclear equation of state and in-medium nucleonic interactions.
In the 19 individual chapters of this book, active workers in the field present their respective views on important aspects of nuclear interactions relevant for a better understanding of nuclear isospin degrees of freedom and their applications. Aspects covered include
* microscopic many-body theories for asymmetric nuclear matter,
* transport theories for nuclear reactions involving neutron-rich nuclei,
* phenomenological and thermal models for phase transitions in asymmetric matter,
* first experimental results on reactions at intermediate energies involving strongly asymmetric nuclear systems.
The book reviews current knowledge, recent progress, and open problems in isospin physics. Significantly, it poses important questions to be addressed by future explorations. This book provides motivation for new experimental and theoretical nuclear research and presents valuable assistance to researchers and graduate students in the emerging field of isospin physics.

Book Description
His complete obsession with all things rock and roll gave the shy lad from Derby the impetus to form a beat group in the 50s. An experience that unwittingly prepared him for life in Hollywood as a film director. It didn't however prepare him for his return to the band nearly 40 years later. This story, spanning six decades, is about the soundtrack to this entertaining journey of musical influences and encounters, from the Midlands to Tinsel Town and back. A little about lifestyle. A lot about rock and roll. And rather too much about farting.
